Local news just confirmed that the Permian basketball player that had said he was a sophomore is the 22 year old from Florida. Looks like there will be forfeits on every game he played in.

I simply do not understand how the coach with whom he was living did not know something was not right. I mean this guy is around 15-18 y/o boys all the time. I would think a 22 y/o would be noticeable.

unless this guy is helping you win games. I think it is easier to overlook something when that something is helping you reach your goals.....just sayin

He knocked some other team out of the playoffs, he knocked some Permian kid out of varsity playing time, he pushed some kid off of the varsity and onto the jv team.

Here is a quote from the original article GB Monster posted:

"Monday, Permian principal Roy Garcia told the Sun Sentinel that ICE had determined Montimere and Joseph are not the same person, but that Joseph, a native of Haiti, is in the U.S. illegally.

"We have a document that says he's someone else and that says he is 16 years old," Garcia said. "The folks from ICE did some checking and said he is not Guerdwich Montimere. I'm confident with the information ICE gave me that it's not Guerdwich Montimere.""

It had to either be a pretty elaborate ruse, or else maybe ICE didn't do a whole lot of checking after all.

Todays paper tells me it's not against the law for a 22 year old to be in highschool, I know that 18 year olds are in attendance today in the junior highs. The laws allow it. Those laws are create by those we elect to state and federal offices.

I'm told that by law you can require certain documents to prove age and residence but with or without those documents you cannot be turned away and any student wishing to enter your school system can. Those laws are created by those we elect to state and federal goverment.

The incentive? I read that for every one of these students the state gives 25 to 30 dollars per day per student to educate these kids. Whatever catagory of kid you put jerry in.

I know, from perhaps nothing more than old age, that today we are a nation of as many liers and crooks in all facets of life as honest, trustworthy people. The proof is in the Fannie Mays, Freddy Macs and Alcorns of this nation propped up our votes, We the People, that allow continued promotion of these cess pools.

So what law did jerry or guerdwich break? I'm under the opinion that unless some irate dad pops up, the only law he has broke was the most important law of all. The un- dictated(forced) law of trust to those who loved, to those who wanted to help. Not a uncommon thing today is it?

Is this event possible only in Ector county? Check out your own school systems possibilities and report back.

another thing of interest, at least to me. I have been told, before he moved in with coach Wright he was living in a dorm at UTPB with his, not really half brother. To a lot of you that think that this is ok or cool, because we are a nation of freedoms. Would it be ok for my wife and I to move into the granddaughers dorm.....uhhh just until we get to doing better. If jerry had just been released from uncle buds would it be ok if he holed up on campus in the dorm of UTPB just until he gets a job? When he gets a job would it be ok if he pays his non half brother a few bucks a night for the room.

Who in hell checks this stuff? Arizona has a problem. EVERY state has a problem.

What I'm saying is if it's happening in Odessa.......:(

Fraud by deception, passing of a fake legal document (birth certificate), possible identity theft, theft of services, federal law was broken when he filed for immigrant relief under a false name...................if anything was sent via the postal service, phone or fax: mail or wire fraud

What I can't fathom in this whole ugly mess is that young people usually want out of high school and here's a 22 year old that wants to be in. Whats up with that?

There is a big difference in how a 16 year old boy looks versus a 22 year old man. Regardless if you "look old for your age"!!

I just refuse to believe that someone, like his coach, didn't have a hunch something was up with this "man"

Most of the time......I agree with this statement.
But Skippy Allen had to go home and shave in the 8th grade too many times for me to agree 100%.

From an earlier post. This is not the first times something like this has happened. It has even happened in places other than Texas.

As to why, I speculate it was to try to get into college and play ball. He had spent some time at a JUCO, but didn't play. I imagine he thought he could do the HS thing over and get more attention since he would be bigger and faster.

He surrendered today at the police station for a charge of alternation of a document. Maybe a birth certificate?
