View Full Version : Recruit ranking comparisons

pied

THis thread will be about comparing the recruits' ranking over time. I will edit each time a recruit is added, or the rankings updated/added. The Orangebloods top 100 was last updated 3/15 and the Aggie Yell Top 125 was last updated 2/15.

I think it's best to keep it on one post per school and then update as necessary.

Allright guys, got this loaded into a spreadsheet added the OOS players( obviously no rankings) and the commitment date. Can't figure out a way to not screw up the format for that yet, so I won't add right now.

Note, if a player is unranked by one of the sites, I gave them the next higher number for math purposes. Any unranked recruit on OB is #101 and #126 for AY. This may not be accurately ranked but I am not certain how else to normalize the info.

On average with the two rankings:

OB rates the Texas recruits 12 spots higher than AY

OB rates the a$m recruits 7 spots higher. Not really a good comparison, because the spreads between the three are all over the place. OB has Josh Stewart ranked #23 and he is not ranked yet by AY, for a 103 popiont swing. AY has the other two commitments 26 and 57 spots higher than OB.

AY likes the ou recruits better by an average of five spots, despite the fact that Danzel Williams is ranked 46 on OB and unranked by AY.

Huge discrepancy with Texas Tech. Of the four players ranked by both sites, OB ranks them higher by an average of 25 spots.

Similar story with TCU. OB ranks five of the seven commits in the top 100 (all in top 66) and AY ranks only two in top 125. Average difference is 40, but this number is probably the most off due to so many players getting a 101 or 126.

Yep. He is a helluva athlete.

McRoy should be a great prospect too. I think the Orlando Sentinel had him as the #2 rated player in Florida.

Scout National 300 updated. Texas with 8 in the top 100. Garrett Greenlea appears to be ranked low in Texas. The OL class is pretty sick.

So far, ou and a$m would appaer to have some quality players committed, although a$m at only three seems very odd to me. A year ago they had 13 commitments including 4/9 4*.

hahaha didn't see him until now. He's a pretty good one. In high school I used to love to go to rivals and laugh at the names of commits. Some of them are pretty ridiculous. Check out Georgia, Oregon, and the like. They all get some pretty funny named characters to commit.

Seems strange to me, but I am also hearing we are taking a very small class this year. I know we have sights on a few high profile OOS prospects, which often take more time to line up. I would like to see more movement.

Spring game is this weekend, although I have not heard much in the way of real excitement. The AZ QB came in and had a nice time, but it would shock me at this point to see Sherman land him. There are still a lot of RB's out there that will be good/great gets.

If I were in your shoes I would be looking for some big time defense commits. Still in on Wallace and Reed it appears, but don't seem to be leading/in on some of the other top prospects on that side of the ball.

Updated the two new commitments, the new Tech LB, and the B Williams switch. Big pick up on the DB for Sherman, apparently pretty unexpected.

Hate to see a player as good as Williams go to ou, but they get theirs. Hopefully this helps out with Malcom Brown to Texas. That appears to bethe plan, crossing my fingers it works out.

Tremendously deep year at the elite RB spot.

Stewart and Burns are both in the top 5 DB spots in state on most lists I have seen this year. That was a position of need, so I am glad to see them. We need to get a great LB this year. Burns is a big kid and projects as a safety/rover type player. I am excited about him.

Interestingly that would not include the a$m Rivals' site. TexAgs and Orangebloods seem to be a bit closer. Assume a lot has to do with the timing of the release. There are some interesting differences between the rankings though.

pied

OK, I will try to do some analysis of the rankings released so far. Important to note that they all rank different numbers of players:

Orangebloods - 100
AggieYell - 125
TexAgs - 44

Scout 300 (Nationally)

It's easier and mor likely to be accurate to say that someone rated in the AY top 125 is #101 on the OB top 100, or that someone ranked in the OB top 100 but not in the AY top 125, would be #126. For math reasons at least. Harder to do with the TA top 44. Too much room, and impossible for the Scout top 300. You can get directional information or where a player might rank in Texas, but hard to assign numbers.

I'll take them by school. First off is Texas.

19. C. Westerman (AZ) - OL........4/6/10................................................ ..........................8

Besides Sheroid Evans being ranked #2 on the OB list and #13 on the TA list they are really quite comparable. The iother outlier with these lists is Jaxon Shipley, #8 on OB and #34 for TA. OB likes MJ McFarland better as well.

Texas has 16 in the top 36 according to OB and 14 according to TA. Of those players they are rated 4 spots on avg high on the OB list than the TA list. taking Evans and Shipley out, the number difference is only 1.

In the end Texags ilkes the Texas recruits much better than the AggieYell site, and with a few excpetions, the same as Orangebloods.

The National site like the Texas recruits, 14/18 Texas recruits are raked in the top 300. Those four are the lowest on the Orangebloods rankings, so that would appear to make sense. AggieYell apparently likes two of the OL prospects(Hutchins/Cochran) quite a bit better than the National site or Orangebloods, but only a bit better than Texags. Strange that both a$m sites have these two players ranked igher than the Texas site.

Westerman, if the National rankings are believed, would be the top recruit in the state, by a good margin. The next highest ranked player commited to one of these schools is Desmond Jackson who comes in at #17 Nationally and is ranked 1,2,3 from the other sites.

on to a$m. It has to be clear that either AggieYell simply hasn't evaluated as many players, has vastly different ideas, or doesn;t like the a$m commits ranked high on the other list. To be fair, their rankings are the oldest and will likely include some all of the players committed to Sherman.

Again OB and TA appear to be on the same page for the most part, especially with Burns and Stewart. Hard to tell about Gutekunst/Henderson. Aren't ranked in the TA top 44 but are ranked in OB #68/85.

Three of the players, including the top two ranked by OB/TA and inthe Scout National top 300 are unranked by AY.

Joseph Cheek is the next biggest disconnect in these rankings. #36 for AY, 42 for TA and 93 for OB.

Directionally the Scout 300 lines up with OB and TA among these players, for he most part. it would suggest that Gutekunst is a bit under ranked by OB. Also suggests that OB's rankin of cheek is probably a little more in line(if you base it on the top 300).

It will appear to be homerism when the next rankings come out and tow currently unranked commits move into the top 25. Not sure that it will be fair, because these guys are ranked by the competition high now. Probably mor of an issue of being late to the party.

AY likes the ou recruits much better than Orangebloods or Texags. The only player not ranked by AY is Danzel Williams and I suspect that will be fixed in the next rankings.

OB/TA see Brandon Williams and Trey Metoyer much more alike than AY.

Their OK QB commit would appear to be ranked in the 30-50 range in the state of Texas. Two very good commits out of the Lone Star state, but they haven't gone nuts yet, but comparing just their Texas class to a$m's is pretty favorable.

Don't know what to say about these gyus. OB likes some of the Tech recruits much better than AY, surprise..... Hard to say about Texags as they only rank 44.

Last year Tech had the #25/41/869 players of the OB list. This would appear to be a much better start.

TCU has 5/7 commits on the OB 100 all in the top 66. Only 2/7 on the AY top 125, but they love Kolby Griffin. Tehy only had three players last year from the OB top 100 and all 70 or higher(77/92). Signifciant ump on their part.

Rumors are floating that now with Brandon Williams @ ou, that wil lead Herschel Simms to TCU. If that ends up happening, wow is all I could say.

TCU seems to think they have Herschel gift wrapped but when Williams off to OU some say that Tech and TCU will be the top two for him. I'm sure it wouldn't be this way if this RB class wasn't so deep.

Oddly enough, the guy Tech has that A&M would like most is not ranked...Jace Amaro. Kenny Williams would be a good catch, too.

I think TCU gets Herschel at this point. Unless Malcolm Brown goes elsewhere and Texas comes after him, I don't see anyone else being a serious contender with him right now.

I think Sims ends up in Lubbock because:

1. He's mad at OU for dropping him.
2. Tech made a big impression on him last week and he saw they'll run the ball more than in the past.
3. If he wants revenge on OU, the Big 12 is the way to go!

Sims should be mad at himself, he had an OU offer for a while and chose to wait for more. Someone else wanted it more than him and took his spot. Sucks, but that's how it works.

Word on Rivals is Sims will most likely go to TCU, with Marquez to Tech. This is just speculation and the opinion of others though. I personally don't see Sims at Tech though... but you never know.

I think whoever offers Ronnell is where Herschel will end up.

Also depending on if Ronnell wants to play QB or move to WR in college. He could get some offers from bigger schools to play receiver, but Rice is the only one I'm aware of that is looking at him to play QB.

Knowing Herschel personally, I'd be shocked if he went to Lubbock. He's never really like Tech.

I could see Marquez at Tech. He liked it when he was in Lubbock for baseball a few weeks ago.

I agree with you on Sims. He was mad because OU told him to take as long as he needed, but he should've know the clock was ticking.

I can't speak to any deep-seated hate, but I do know he never gave Tech too much thought because they passed all the time under Leach.

It was never any deep seated hate he had towards Tech, he was an OU fan and didn't like the thought of having to play in an offense based so much around the passing game.

This is a very solid class, especially the DL, curious about the lack of OL so far.

What's on the radar there?

Probably, but he hasn't committed along with Brown and Lasco, it's as strong a RB class as I can recall.

According to Cajun there was going to be 4 or 5 in Louisiana alone. I guess that means the rest of the country will only have 6 or 7.:D

It's a money ploy. They'll add a few 5-stars every update to keep the money coming in.

The Rivals 100 is not a premium service. Anyone can access that.

Will be more complaining, but there should also be fewer people downgraded from 5* to 4* though.
