My son and I hit the RRR seminar in San Marcos today. The man is loaded with good advice. He really helped to answer a lot of my questions about the recruiting process.

My son was only one of a handful of current Soph's there, but I think this stuff is good for Sophomore's to hear as well. It was good for my kid to hear about keeping his grades up. He's a 4.0+ kid now, but he's even more resolved to keep it that way.

Rodgers talks a lot about leaving yourself options. What he said made a lot of sense to me as a parent and seemed to sink into my son's head as well.

In front of us was a table full of guys with blue/white letter jackets with a big "M" on them. I'm not sure which Austin/San Antonio I35 cooridor school they were from, but it amazed me that they hardly even seemed to listen. Just BS-ing with each other and one or two of the parents at that table. There was one parent that was really paying attention and I guess that's good as he'll be able to help all the ones that had no interest in being there.

What's with some people? A man with YEARS of recruiting experience from several angles in the process, coach, dad, etc., and these guys didn't even seem to listen. We were sitting at round tables and several never even turned around to watch Rodgers while he was speaking. Just high fives and such on occasion. I just wanted to beatch-slap a few of them. At least you turn around and give teh speaker your attention! One of the people that didnt' even turn and look was one of the parents! The parent just sat there laughing at all their cutting up. Great example.

Just a general lack of respect that caused me to have to look over them and try extra hard to pay my own attention to the man with all the experience.

There's one more in Nacogdoches tomorrow if any of you can make it. I highly recommend it. And, it's free.

Very Good Seminar - FREE - Parents don't miss it, Sophomores don't wait until your Junior Year.

My son, Class of '07, started visiting colleges the summer between his freshman and sophomore year in high school. We have looked at approximatley D-I through D-III 100 colleges with varying degrees of interests from them for athletic purposes. Late May/Early June, we will start completing application to 5-7 schools. Some private schools with high applications fees have waived their fee for my son to send in an early application. In these cases, coaches have sponsored him as a recommendation for acceptance because of academics and leadership...of course, I'm quite positive the athletic thing played a role too.

Given this, Randy Rodgers Recruiting Round-up is worth attending and using his service is money well-spent. Early planning will provide the student-athlete with academic/athletic options and allow the student-athlete to select a best opportunity...no planning may lead to disappointment and lost opportunities for academic scholarships and athletic alternatives to D-1 football. However, if the athlete waits until February 2007 Singing Day and a D-1 scholarship did not come his way...as a former D-1 prospect, the athlete will tend to default into a school they know little about and/or have limited options to choose where they will play college football (if at all). Take control...its your future.

That should be Nacogdoches, Texas, probably at SFA U. Hopfully there will be lots of Panthers and parents in attendance since SFA is only a 20 mile drive from Lufkin.

I usually type it Nacognowhere. My mistake in attempting to spell it correctly! :) Thanks for the pointer.

Cmon, every recruiter visits SLC as least once per season.

Isn't this the same guy who coached the Texas Super team vs California and choked every game? During one game they showed a shot of him and he looked absolutely absent minded. He better stick to recruiting.

The entire time we were they he talked about recruiting. I think he's sticking to it.
