My son and I hit the RRR seminar in San Marcos today. The man is loaded with good advice. He really helped to answer a lot of my questions about the recruiting process.
My son was only one of a handful of current Soph's there, but I think this stuff is good for Sophomore's to hear as well. It was good for my kid to hear about keeping his grades up. He's a 4.0+ kid now, but he's even more resolved to keep it that way.
Rodgers talks a lot about leaving yourself options. What he said made a lot of sense to me as a parent and seemed to sink into my son's head as well.
In front of us was a table full of guys with blue/white letter jackets with a big "M" on them. I'm not sure which Austin/San Antonio I35 cooridor school they were from, but it amazed me that they hardly even seemed to listen. Just BS-ing with each other and one or two of the parents at that table. There was one parent that was really paying attention and I guess that's good as he'll be able to help all the ones that had no interest in being there.
What's with some people? A man with YEARS of recruiting experience from several angles in the process, coach, dad, etc., and these guys didn't even seem to listen. We were sitting at round tables and several never even turned around to watch Rodgers while he was speaking. Just high fives and such on occasion. I just wanted to beatch-slap a few of them. At least you turn around and give teh speaker your attention! One of the people that didnt' even turn and look was one of the parents! The parent just sat there laughing at all their cutting up. Great example.
Just a general lack of respect that caused me to have to look over them and try extra hard to pay my own attention to the man with all the experience.
