Not happening until we get some heart and dedication on the team.
These kids are no different than the team you played for.Heart isn't a question with longview lobo football, preparation and scheme is the problem. Please give me an example of questionable heart by this or any lobo team, because I haven't seen that.Tell me when you've seen any lobo team laydown because that's when you can question heart.Better yet,why don't you define heart as it pertains to this conversation

Heart and dedication is a true desire to win and execute when needed. I'm not talking about "saying" you'll win it, but actually showing that you want to. Simply loving the game and being smart throughout every attempt to execute and following fundamentals. We don't have that.
There's nothing wrong with our scheme, preparation or offensive playbook. We actually have one of the most dynamic playbooks in the state. The team just doesn't do none of the above-mentioned.
Euless Trinity has one of the most basic, boring playbooks in the state. But the athletes their have heart and dedication toward football. Can you tell me how many state appearances and championships that they have?

I'll agree. It would be nice to have a legit coordinator on the staff.
I will say that Vallery is a must stay. He has utilized the QB spot at Longview.
I'll wait to see if coach vallery is the real deal when caraway graduates. If he can make players out of the underclassmen I'll sing his praises from now on,but I can't give him credit for the job caraway did this year.Anybody that knows him will tell you he's always played like that,we just never knew who he was.His father guided his progress from day one and it shows today.Lhs coaches were reluctant when it came to him, because he was different from what they were used to.I like vallery, but I've got to see more hands on in the future.

Comparing Longviews O line and Trinity's, is apples and oranges. ET has one of the best Olines year in and out in the nation, and I see a lot of teams around the country.
We need a better OC. Period.

Trey Williams and Dekaney is shreading Mansfield Timberview 42-0 in the 1st half. Looks like he's going for Cedric Benson. Correction he got Ced in the 1st half and needs 28 more yards to put him at 3rd all-time single season.
Longview may have never seen a back like Williams. That kid was very impressive.
Looks like Dekaney is finals bound.

Size doesn't mean anything to a hill of beans. Maybe it's you that doesn't know much about football?
King is the best coach in Lobo history. You older people can say whatever you want(could care less), but there's no denying that. Every team from 04'-present would get a spot in Longview's top 10 all time. Who did you play under? He must've been awesome for you to talk down on King.
And are you ill? That 05 playbook was nothing like the playbook we have today. The players on the 05' team has never seen/heard of spread/no huddle, or wildcat. That was nothing but I-Form and option. I'm starting to think you've never seen Longview play..

I'll agree. Bivins has some nice folks and I even followed him through Judson Middle, as well as Robertson and Johnson.
Hopefully, JMS keeps re-stocking Longview with legit QB's. The other two middle schools do not contribute to the QB position the way JMS does..

Trey Williams already scored 6 TDs in game & needs 52 more yards to go to 2nd all-time single season behind Kenneth Hall.
Announcers we're funny when they said, "Not even Al Bundy scored 6 TDs in a game."

The Dekaney/Timberview game is being tape delay broadcast on KTXA channel 21 in the DFW market at 6pm 12/10.
Watching this game and I wonder just how many fans Dekaney will bring to JerryWorld? A mighty poor showing for a State Semi-final game.

You could be right, but that defense that Steele has is a great one. It should be a great game though, I wish a team from East Texas was in one of the 5A or 4A title games, btw...

An btw where's 07' he's been mighty quiet.
I've avoided everything Longview related since the loss. Didn't need to see the bashing of the program anymore than what was going through my mind. Don't know what anyone has said (outside of the past two pages on this thread).
First time I've ever left a Longview playoff game early though (granted was with 2 minutes to go). Think I've finally come to the conclusion that we're just a good program that will never be able to finish. Still will be there next year, obviously. Amazing to me that DeKaney is actually still playing though. Didn't think they'd be able to beat that Mansfield squad (especially in the way they did). 5 consecutive years that the team that beat Longview has been at State or has won State. Not to mention, Garland went all the way to the Semis in 06.
The one enjoyment I've had from these playoffs, though, is seeing Midway destroy JT hahaha.

I was just stopping by and noticed that you responded. Keep up the pre-game info next season. Since there's not much to do in the view on the weekends it's great to see Longview in the hunt each year. It's to bad we've had to come the the realization that were not championship material. I expect alot more just like everyone else. I stayed the entire time as always. I don't have children im just a true fan. And just like the oppertunity to give my two cents on the boards. Especially since I'm a taxpayer and well, I have to be accountable to the county every year. So i expect sooner or later my beloved Lobos will reach the top since everythings at the Coaches disposal. At the end of the day its about results.

I watched the Steele/dekaney game last nite and It made me sick to see two teams who our Lobos wouldve clobbered if given a better effort by the coaching staff.Coach king if you're reading this, please please pretty please will you give up your play calling duties and bring in a fresh mind who knows offense and stay in your lane and keep churning out O-lineman.You've done more than any coach in our history and we appreciate your efforts, but its time to take a step back to move two steps forward.I watched Steele and kept saying to myself how did this team get here with this lackluster attack and weak defense? Smh.Come on coach king and push your ego aside and do what's in the best interest of the program.I know you've said that line to kids for years and now its time to practice what you preach.GO LOBOS!!!!!!!!!!!

Steele did not have the athletes to stay on the same field as Longview this year. Not even close. Dekaney was much better, but Longview should have beaten Dekaney by 2 - 3 TDs if offensive coaching / gameplan / in-game adjustments / decisionmaking had been up to par.
Pretty sad. State title was there for Longview's taking this year. Blown opportunity, yet again.
lobopride98
12-18-2011, 06:24 PM
Yeah, I watched the game too. It should make King proud that Dekaney's Coach said his defense's changing moment in there season was stuffing our attack twice in the red zone. At that moment he knew what his defense could do. Isn't it great our coaches gave them the confidence they needed. There coach never expected to contain us like the did!!!

You can win with a predictable offense and a tenacious defense. Just need a lights out playmaker, something that doesn't come through most programs very often.

I heard from a reliable source that the realignment will look like this for the 2012 season:
11-5a (7 team district)
Longview
Tyler Lee
Mesquite Horn
North Mesquite
Mesquite
Rockwall
Rockwall Heath
Desoto is out, not sure where they are headed to?

Coppell and Lufkin are the only confirmations.
Coppell will be Week 0 at SMU, and Lufkin will be September 21st with the venue undetermined, per Coach Quick at Lufkin.
Marshall will be on the schedule, along with the unknown opponent that we'll face in the battle of the borders Classic. These matchups are in the works and haven't been confirmed.
Allen could be an addition to the schedule, depending on how realignment turns out.
To my understanding, we won't be playing JT the next two years.

I wish we would quit scheduling Marshall. Once we've done a 100, it's no longer in our best interest to schedule Marshall. IMO, they are no longer competitive and does nothing to prepare the team for district.

I've been wishing that for a while. King wants to keep the "rivalry" going, but it's soooo overrated and watered down. Lee and JT are bigger rivals than Marshall, any day. Even Allen, and we've only been playing them consistently since 08'.
Want to know what's humoring?
Some clueless Marshall posters over on Smoaky believe that the rivalry is alive and well, even after PT defeated them.

Shaping up to be a pretty good non-district slate again. Much much rather play Lp then JT, if only just so we don't have to put up with JT posters on Smoaky on game week. That and I think losing to them would affect us more than just another win over that program. They're a good rival and a good program, but I truly believe we're on a different level than them. Much like most feel about the Marshall rivalry IMO.
Only way we could have 5 non-district games is if we end up in a 6 team district again. Don't see anyway that that happens...Still want to be invited back to that new stadium of Allen's though. So will be hoping for that if that's the case.
Have to say, I'm very much looking forward to playing this Oklahoma side, whichever team it ends up being. Have never seen an Okie HS play and really excited just to see Longview face another out of state opponent. Anyone know what Coppell has coming back? Only thing I'm hoping out of that game right now is that it isn't during the middle of the day.

**Schedule Update.
More news to next years' schedule, which brings a few scratches to my head.
Apparently Harlingen is looking for a Week 1 game for either Friday, August 31st or Saturday, September 1st. Four teams have been in contact with Harlingen concerning the Week 1 matchup: North Shore, Permian, Skyline & you guessed it, Longview.
I've been knowing this information for about two days, and finally got it confirmed as Padilla tweeted the information today.
So just for a rundown, Coppell and Lufkin have already been confirmed opponents for the next two years. These are teams who could fill the remaining spots..
Harlingen
Marshall
Allen
The unknown Oklahoma power
JT isn't even getting consideration to my understanding(thank god). A big mess we have, but hopefully realignment will ease some of this stress tomorrow. BTW, 2080 looks to be the proposed cutoff limit for class 5A.

Surely Marshall will take one of those places.
Personally don't see any reason why we would be playing Harlingen. If we did play them hopefully it would be on a Saturday. Not a big fan of the neutral match ups in regular season play, especially if there are two or possibly THREE in one season. But at least the two that have been talked about has one on National TV and one against an out of state opponent (from a state we've never played against at that).
Very happy that John Tyler isn't even being considered for a game. If anything, scrimmage is fine. But no thanks on a non-district match up.
If we have 4 non-district match ups...gonna hope we go for Oklahoma school in Shreveport and Allen as the last two match ups, but knowing we'll sign Marshall, would prefer the Oklahoma school just to mix it up for two years.

**Schedule Update.
More news to next years' schedule, which brings a few scratches to my head.
Apparently Harlingen is looking for a Week 1 game for either Friday, August 31st or Saturday, September 1st.
I have several thoughts..........
1) A neutral site would be hours away for fans of both squads.
2) Their fans on here are TERRIBLE!!! IMO, as bad as LT fans.
3) I have heard that they are one of those teams that goes out to intentionally physically hurt their opponents. (out of the mouth of a few Abilene fans) They feel they have something to prove outside of the Valley. We can't afford to have our boys hurt in preseason!!
4) There are PLENTY of teams closer that we could get a game out of for 2 years.
5) I want to go to Allen to see the new stadium!!
My list could go on and on, but it would just be more selfish reasons why I don't want to play Harlingen. We would much rather make the drive during playoff season opposed to preseason. :D
And as always............................
GO LOBOS!!!! :heli:

Uck. Potential 2nd round match up with Allen depending on where they drop in divisions.
Given that LT wins their district and goes division II, can't meet them until the Quarters (assuming we get the top spot in our district).

I really expect Caraway to set 5A on fire next year. Dorian Leonard #15, should have a breakout season. With Spady with White and Wall in the backfield Jeter's destined for a big year as well. The best thing that Caraway can do for his recruiting and for the team is become a dominant runner to go along with his arm. At 5'11 he's short for a top QB prospect but the running game could help in his evaluations, not to mention would've helped him a lot against DeKaney.
You can't say enough about DeMarkus Lathan. Hate he's so small. Such a stud. Hope he gets a recruiting look. Anyone that's a first team All-American deserves it. Great piece to center a defense around that returns the entire secondary excluding hybrid Burton. 92 Cornelious Williams along with 43 Jalen Porter return and will be dominate again.
High hopes for the team again...comes down to execution.

Reading up on it...
Seems like they've decided to fly, instead of drive, to all future games in Texas (obviously meaning the new two years here).
http://www.statesman.com/sports/highschool/travis/monterrey-tech-travis-high-football-game-canceled-by-1906454.html
Monterrey Tech called off a Sept. 8 game at Stony Point after the Mexican prep school received a telephone threat from an unidentified person. The caller demanded $30,000 to allow the team to cross the border into the United States, and school officials feared the threat might be tied to a drug cartel operating in Monterrey. To avoid traveling on the roadways in Mexico, Monterrey Tech then elected to fly to future games in Texas.
Monterrey Tech also had a Sept. 23 game at Gregory-Portland called off. Paul Clore, superintendent of the Gregory-Portland district, said he was concerned about the threat of violence at the stadium after watching a TV news report about drug cartels.
Really hoping that if we are for sure going to schedule them, that we know the risks of this game getting cancelled during the season. What a wasted week it would be if it does get cancelled. Surely Texas High or someone could've been signed up easily after they got put in those horrid 6 team districts? Obviously it's not ideal but at least we would know the game would be on...no matter what.

Honestly, not too much to complain about. If the game goes on, it'll be fun to see a team from a different country. And I'm sure they'll be better competition than a local team would've been (not like the ones within an hour of us are very good). Just have to worry if the game is actually going to go on.

Here is to hoping for better ball control. He might get there in .00002 seconds, but it does no good if he doesn't still have the ball in his hand......:)

You mean to tell me that in all of the states of Tx, La., Ar., and Ok., we couldnt find anyone to play other than a team from Mexico?
Not one that would be willing to come to Lobo Stadium two years in a row at least. Which, I also find ridiculous because I'm sure one of those Shreveport schools would've been willing. Granted those teams would be worse than Barbers Hill or Spring Hill for god sakes.
I just don't get how with Texas High is 90 minutes away that we don't contact them. They have a date open STILL and they are also playing the Mexico team. Makes no sense to me why we didn't contact them, even if just to play them one year and find a ARK/LA/OK team next season to come to Lobo.

Listen up guys, his 40 time is irrelevant. The question is can this coaching staff make wine out of water offensively? No big time threat in the Wr corp imo,is gonna be a problem at some point next season. Our top rb has fumblitis and our passer MUST be a runner for the team to be effective, therefore making the offense one dimensional. He ran for a lot of yards on horn and desoto and those were two of the better defenses they played. His 40 time had nothing 2400+ yards. We need a better offensive scheme in 2012!

One-dimensional offenses are played out and predictable, like Judson's offense this year.

I agree with you that we need a better offensive game plan. I agee that Bivins needs threats at WR to stretch the defense. But he's also going to need to run on ocassion when defense or conditions dictate (i.e. DeKaney). That's when the time in the 40 matters. If it didn't, they would time it at a combine and they wouldn't post it on recruiting sites. They also wouldn't care about how tall a kid is. Of course, if he completes 64% of his passes for 6400 yards, nobody cares about any of that. And if that happens, we're talking state championship in our lifetime and Bivins has alot of FBS options. I'll take the latter over a running QB anyday.

Don't worry about it. He's still taller than Doug Flutie, but even he had to scramble away from the defense to throw a Hail Mary pass that was caught in the end zone by Gerald Phelan to give BC a 47-45 win.

i think the scheme is ok..(the play calling could be better)i think we just need to put people in a place to create a mismatch every play....we do have the talent coming to varsity to do this...if it was my call i would move white to slot wr (speed)...wall to
tb, (i think he runs better inside than white=sorta reminds me of tyler mccray)and for those grind-it-out type of games:D move cornelius williams :D back to fb where he started his football career.....:D and just run straight over the defense=rumble ....then lightning=(play action deep=white, short=te mid = spady....... :) only if it was my call..!!!

This is a very significant development in my opinion...if he develops any ability to move then it changes everything....a true passer who can run in John King's offense...

What's the big deal about his 40 time.Did we not just witness the best single season passing in lobo history? He shredded desoto and mesquite horn on the ground.Caraway is an athlete who gets it done. The question we need to ask is what type of skill players will surround him this season, because I just don't know where the explosive plays come from.If we don't have playmakers will we rely solely on caraways legs?I enjoyed watching him throw the ball and that's what makes him special, not running for his life every Friday night.I sincerely hope that the offense is being "tweaked" to maximize the weapons at his disposal and not caraway right and caraway left.

Caraway adding speed is a great sign for the Lobos because when the wind was whipping at 30 mph against Dekaney, rushing with the quarterback would've been of great use. But it's a great sign of leadership and maybe shows he's willing to do whatever to win. Best passing quarterback by far, but does he have the will of an Aaron Johnson or Petey Robertson? (Speaking of Aaron is making the move back to Qb at Houston this year.) Those two put the team on their backs and did whatever they had to do to try to win. Let's see where the maturation of Caraway is.

Aaron and peter had to run because their passing wasn't a strong suit for them.Caraway didn't have a single running play called in the dekaney game.He can do all the things Aj and peter did,but he brings a dimension neither one of those guys had or have.Running him 20 times a game is pressing the easy button and I think the Lobos can do so much more with him if the staff simply put in a more complex offense. The kids can are smart enough to run a better offensive scheme and give caraway more than the running option

I didn't post his 40 time to make a big deal. I only did it to inform people on how much his speed has progressed. Just to let people know, the fastest 40 time posted was by DB Jaylan Lawson(4.3). Who do to the fact that their is excess depth at corner, could make his change to the slot receiver spot.
I have no worries on Caraway. He'll be WELL prepared for next year and could hold a few offers before the Fall. He'll also be apart of some big events coming up:
-UNT's Jr day, March 3rd.(Could receive offer)
-The Opening Sparq/Nike Combine, March 24th, Cowboys Stadium
-Elite 11 Regional Camp, March 24th, Cowboys Stadium
-Nike Football Training Camp, March 25th, Cowboys Practice Facility
For those who don't have much knowledge about camps, these are some MAJOR camps. The crazy thing is, he has two of these major camps in one day.
I'll actually be in attendance of the NFTC and can't wait to see him in action.

Caraway is in between 5'11 & 6'. Wilson at Wisconsin is 5'11. Both Drew Brees and Michael Vick were around 5'10 when they were recruited into college.
Nothing is wrong with his height. Every college coach that's been in contact with Caraway have wanted him at QB.

We all know Caraway is better than anyone else throwing the ball. My point was that when the pass is ineffective like in the DeKaney game, I'd like to see him show the same will Johnson and Robertson showed. If it was 80 degrees with no wind every game we would've won state.

His PLAY CALLING dictates when he runs. Coach king wouldn't run his 230lb fullback in 30 MPH winds. What does caraway need to do to show WILL?Scrambling to make throws, playing with injuries, staying with the gameplan in all situations, and working extremely hard for his teammates shows will. You have to explain the term "WILL",because I don't understand what that means.A.j and peter ran the ball more than him and that's the only thing I can come up with to mean "WILL".

How about instead of dancing to every song the band plays go over to coach king and tell him you want the ball, or tell him to keep feeding Deontre. How about huddling up the offense on the sideline and say look line I need y'all to block for me. I need you to hold on to the ball Tory. How about going forward and stepping into the line and running instead of throwing the ball into the wind and not having a clue where its going. Watch these kids on the sideline and how they interact with one another or lack there of. He's a tremendous kid and player but there's no way you can say he plays with the same desire as Johnson or Robertson.

Are we comparing Johnson & Robertson with Caraway?
How many Longview passing records did Johnson & Robertson break(both played more games than Caraway)? How many Big 10 programs recruited Johnson & Robertson as QB's? How many times were Johnson & Robertson invited to big name Nike Combines & Elite 11 regionals?
This is the very first QUARTERBACK that we've had in a very, very long time. All I'm saying is, be happy with what we have. This is his last year, and we won't see another one of his caliber at least for another 4 years...

The point I've tried to make from the beginning is that Caraway gettting faster shows that he's willing to become a duel threat, so when the pass is ineffective, like in a windy playoff game, he can tuck it and be more effective.

exactly my point in learning how to slide...he dont need to take the hits, just run fast and duck.....i think he will be ok.....and if what i saw today at earl campbell relays crosses over to the football field,Carraway running isnt what our opponents are gonna have to worry about.....Our qb with any running ability is just a plus.......LOBOS=TROUBLE if we are on your schedule......

True Duel Threat QB's like to run the ball. Saw 3 Lobo games last year and he look timid running the majority of the time. Wont label him "scared" but he shy's away from contact which is a major tell in my book.
In my opinion....Bring the wood once and his urge to run goes bye bye!
Im looking for evidence of him being timid when he ran the ball or "laying down"after a big hit.It is obvious that you prefer a running Qb and itdoesnt matter what caraway does he'll still be a lesser qb to you.

Having to quote him over here because I sure as hell am not gonna risk getting eaten alive over there for voicing my opinion (which it seems no Longview fan can do without getting eaten alive).
The degrading of smaller schools as if their accomplishments don't matter, the bashing of schools like John Tyler for example saying they're not worthy opponents or something similar of that nature.
Who on here or there has degraded any of the smaller East Texas schools' accomplishments? John Tyler is a school we should be beating every year, and I fully believe there a step below us. There are better schools out there to play in non-district, and a scrimmage against them seems a more rightful fit IMO. They're a good rivalry but eh, I'd rather play Allen or someone like that. Much rather of continued the Abilene series then have to play JT again.
But do wonder who has degraded the smaller schools on there. Do people assume by saying Longview would beat Gilmer or Tatum on there as if we're bashing them? It's ridiculous, really.

It is very simple..when other teams don't respect a QBs ability to run, they put more people in coverage...if he is a true running threat, they will have to respect that...it also doesn't hurt when teams will blitz him...
He is the best throwing QB we have had in a long time...being a little quicker on his feet is only going to make him better...
so it is not about just his 40 time, but if he has improved that much, then I am sure other things have improved as well...just happy for the kid and feel sorry for whatever defense is going to be in front of him next year...

Not sure what game you saw with Longview vs Horn. Carraway did not shred Horn with his running. Longviews leading rusher had 52 yards. The difference was Hawkins four receptions for 149 yards and 2 TD's. Carraway is a great passer, asking him to be a great runner is not going to happen. He just needs to run when has too. He is the best QB to come thru Longview in years and I can't understand why this is not enough for some folks.

Caraway has convinced me that he can play, now the question is can and will the coaches put PLAYERS on the field to help him and not ask him to make every single play for this team.A good gameplan will go a long way with how this team is made up.Lobo fans have wanted a true qb to see how we would look against the states best teams and I think were in VERY CAPABLE hands.I'm more interested in Wr development for 2012 because we are loaded at every other position. So whether caraway runs 4.6 or 4.9 he is an Athletic kid who has all the intangibles to be great.Do we think his vision only helps when he throws the ball?He was an excellent point guard who blew by faster players at will.Football has been no different. Go LOBOS !!!!!

A couple of Lobos are busy this weekend.
As stated before, Caraway had a good day at the Nike Sparq combine. Also had a good showing at the Elite 11 regional today. People around the camp often gave Bivins some high praises on his accuracy and his cannon. Unfortunately, Texas is full of other good QB's and Elite 11 coach Trent Dilfer awarded Skyline's 3 star QB Davante Kincaide with MVP.
The 5A defensive player of the year Demarkus Lathan attended his first Jr day today at Louisiana-Lafayette. Both Lathan and Caraway will be participating in the Nike Football Training Camp tomorrow in Irving at Valley Ranch.
Safety Corey Bartley(who recorded 126 tackles, 2nd most behind Lathan) spent his day attending SMU's Jr day.

Exactly. Caraway was as effective as any of those QB's, ESPECIALLY the Texas commit Swoopes. Swoopes just wasn't at all that impressive to me, especially at the elite 11 combine. I honestly don't like the "camp system". Basically, if you're big named you've already got the nod. It isn't even about work ethic, it's about who you are.
Lathan will never get the respect he deserves because of his size. Best LB in the state too. Sad thing.

Sparq combines are strictly tests of overall athleticism(40 yard dash, Agility shuttle, Vertical test and Power ball toss)Ratings going from 0 to 125.0 I believe. The ratings aren't exactly that important though, it's the percentile that's most important. Caraway went above the 90th percentile.

Always fun to find out afterwards what teams we contacted to schedule a game..
King said he was also turned down by two Louisiana schools the Lobos have played multiple times in the past decade: West Monroe and Shreveport Evangel.
King said he also attempted to schedule a game against Miami Norland, the defending Florida Class 5A state champions, but costs were too much of an obstacle.
Wonder why they turned us down? Evangel I can understand but surely West Monroe could've made room? Do they still do the strength of schedule crap in Louisiana? Am sure we would've helped them.
Wonder if he was gonna have our guys go down to Florida if that one happened? Surely not. Would've been fun though!
King said the opponent to fill the open date in 2013 will likely be from out-of-state as well. He said it could be determined after Louisiana’s biennial realignment for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years, which will be made this fall. and he may try to get Longview involved with The Battle on the Border in 2013.
Personally hoping we stay away from any Louisiana teams. Don't know if any Okie or Arky teams would pose more of a schedule or not, as I haven't seen much from either state, but feel like we've beaten the best LA has had to offer. We can gain more by facing other teams. Only team I would even be remotely ok with from that state is West Monroe, but they obviously have no desire to face off against us anymore.

I am told that Norland was actually going to come to Lobo for the matchup, but Norland had budget issues.
I hate that we couldn't schedule them. I've always wanted Longview to get a taste of Florida football. That would've been FUN! Not only that, but the SOS would've been tremendous. No worries. Talks are still in for 2013, but only if the "Battle of the Borders" deal fall through again.
Oh well, NLR will do. LOL They're not to shabby either.

I wouldn't worry about the core if I were you. I'm actually getting reports of the WR core being pretty good.(under the radar in other words) Don't forget about 6'4 210 pound Jeter returning at the TE spot. 6'4 180 Dorian Leonard at the other WR spot and I'm being told that returning DB Lawson could be making his move to slot wideout. Raspberry didn't get much reps off the bench this past year, but man o' man could he catch a ball during 7 on 7 last summer. JV has a good size TE moving up. Not so sure of his name, but his pretty big. I'm surprised that he didn't play varsity ball this season, but I guess it makes since considering we had Jeter and King playing TE.

Longview's defense will be set. They have 9 returning players who made 1st or 2nd team all district. The question mark will be on offense. Carraway is the only returning player who made the all district team. I know the JV was undefeated and I don't know who they have coming up. I do know the defense will have to carry them during the first half of the season until the offense jells.

Interesting that the paper brings up Cedric King. King was a standout on JV this past year, as well as Stephon Anthony. I honestly don't have a size for Anthony, but King has height to him(5'11)
The O-Line will showcase more size. I don't have figures on everyone, but Rodriguez, Hutchinson, Malone and Jackson are at least 6'.

Well, the first day of practice was bit sloppy, but that was expected. Both Colin Jeter and Dorian Leonard emerge as big play threats catching the ball, along with Justinn Spady. Caraway made good decisions all day. I am not at all worried about the corps, although there was a few dropped passes by other wideouts.
The defense had a good showing today. Completely shut down the Lobo running game and did well in the pass scale. Those guys are stacked!
In regards to the offense, Jr Stephon Dunn seems to be the QB that will back up Caraway, which isn't exactly what I want to see. I'd really want to see Sophomore Dezmond Chumley get the backup roll. He looked good in QB passing drills and is tremendously bigger than Dunn.
The biggest downfall today was punting. Some punts were so bad, King yelled "I guess we'll be going for a lot of 4th downs come fall!"
Can't wait for tomorrow.

Did the running game look as poor as it did again DeKaney? :(

Can't really judge how the running game is going to be in the fall based off of spring. The guys on defense have seen the same running plays since they were in the 7th grade. If they don't stop it then there's a problem.

I hate to be debbie downer, but the practices are exactly the same as always. we have the same coach calling all the plays on offense. coach king has not learned from his past mistakes running the offense. we have a very good team, but they are only going to be as good as the coach who prepares them.I don't want to seem as if I'm piling on,but the players and fans of this program deserve and should demand more from the coaching staff. Go LOBOS !!!!

Day 2.
More color shirts were at today's practice as coaches from Texas Tech, TCU, UL Monroe & Northwestern came out to watch the players.
The defense ruled the day once again. They're just outright stacked! Porter and Williams did great today anchoring the D-Line. It is unclear whether current sophomore Zaycoven Henderson will play D-Line or O-Line, but man o' man was he good at both! He was clearing guys out while blocking and and did great while on defense. The linebackers and secondary are just flat out good. Maxey, Cooks, Brown, Bartley & Webster are going to create some turnovers come fall. All 5 of those DB's have a nose for the ball once it's in the air. Picked off Bivins a few times and the passes weren't even bad.
The running game was once again non-existent. White made a few good runs, but that was it. I honestly believe the defense is just that good. The blocking was ok, but the defense was just quick at closing up holes.
I currently am unaware of his name, but the kicker is a good one. Didn't see him miss a single FG today. Punting is still questionable. In fact, I'm worried and that's saying a lot coming from me.
Day 3 tomorrow..

Sounds like LV will once again, as usual, have a great defense. Hope the punting issue can be worked out. I would think this would be something the staff would spend countless hours working on especially after what happened against Guyer in 2010.
Good luck to the Lobos in 2012. I'd love one day to get to watch our Knights go head to head with one of the State's most historic programs.

The Lobos didn't have practice yesterday, but I thought I'd take this time to introduce what could be a storied defense come fall.
*Returning starter
-Good playing time
-RE Jr Xavier Mitchell(6'1 217)
*NG Sr Cornellious Williams(5'11 283)
DT ???
*LE Sr Jalen Porter(6' 222)
*LB Sr Torrean Sheppard(5'9 182)
*LB Sr DeMarkus Lathan(5'9 200)
*CB Sr Davatric Cooks(5'10 171)
-S/LB Jr Jalen Webster(5'10 180)
*FS Jr Stephon Maxey(6'1 188)
*SS Sr Corey Bartley(5'8 160)
*CB Sr Nakia Brown(5'9 180)
Just so there isn't any confusion, the "S-LB" position is often referred to as "backer" in a 4-2-5 format(same position Burton played the last two seasons). Backer takes on multiple rolls acting as a extra safety and LB. Even corner back depending on the situation. Webster is a helluva athlete. Watched him at a few camps and his level of determination is astonishing. Chris Coby(5'10 177) is another good junior DB. Lobo fans should remember the hits he often delivered during kick returns. He'll definitely receive playing time, whether he shares it with Webster or Bartley. The DT position is still a question mark. Don't worry. Everyone is aware of current sophomore Zaychoven Henderson(6'2 268). He's been DOMINATE, I mean DOMINATE. So dominate that Tech coaches had to pull him to the side and admire his work. Thing is, he's been dominate at the LG position on the O-Line as well. For this reason, coaches have been alternating George Anderson and Roderick Alexander at the DT position as well. To make a long story short, If coaches decide that they want Henderson at LG rather then DT, Anderson or Alexander is expected to get the job. I'll be paying more attention to the DT spot the next two days.

Roderick Alexander has emerged as the top candidate for DT. Alexander stands at 6' 250 as a junior. He has a high motor, and I've honestly seen him in the backfield more than I've seen Williams back there, and that's saying a lot! So that concludes what could become a storied defense.
Looks like Zaychoven Henderson(6'2 268) will be clearing way for runners this fall. So the offensive line consists of:
*LT Jr Vernon Hutchinson(6' 252)
-LG Jr Zaycoven Henderson(6'2 268)(Shared and started time on D-Line last season)
-C Sr Mark Malone(6'1 258)
-RG Sr Adrian Jackson(6'2 255)
RT ??
*TE Sr Colin Jeter(6'4 218)
Even though the RT position doesn't have a clear cut starter, that's a pretty solid O-Line if you ask me. We haven't seen consistent size like that across the board in lord knows how long.
The rest of the offense consist of:
*QB Sr Bivins Caraway III(6' 210)
*RB Sr Tory White(5'8 171)
-FB Sr Antonius Sanders(5'9 193)
-WR Sr Justinn Spady(5'8 157)
-WR Jr Dorian Leonard(6'4 188)
-WR Sr Jaylan Lawson(5'8 161)(Started a few games as corner, see DeSoto game)
That concludes my week of evaluation. Wish I could stay an extra week as I always do, but my schedule is too hectic. Hopefully I helped enough to answering question marks.
*correction on RE Mitchell. He'll be a SENIOR this fall instead of a junior.

What about Rendell Harris and Kenny Andrews who LNJ projected as OL starters?
Also, do you have info on Cedric King who was projected as starter on offense? As well as, L’Darrius “Petey” Peterson?
Also, do you have any info on Jalen Johnson and transfer, George Anderson?

Harris was seeing time at RT with the first team during the first week, but I doubt he'll be the one starting there. There's a bigger athlete(unsure of his name) that shared playing time at the position as well. Andrews played more of a role with the second team.
I project King(5'11 165) to be more of a 5-10 yard possession receiver. Not much of a deep threat/go to guy like the other three listed, but he's still legit. Peterson should do well this year. The only downfall to him is his size. Peterson stands at 5'7 155 pounds. Smallest RB I've ever seen out of Longview, but he's tough.
Neither Johnson or Anderson will start this season. Unsure of Anderson's size, but Johnson is every bit of undersized for the DE position.
Green/White game will be Friday at 2.

Thanks for the input. Time and injuries, as well as, grades will tell. There's been a host of players whose either time was cut short or who had to step up and become an integral part.
Am looking forward to Green/White to give an indication of things to come.
