I am from the new school in the Jisd district. We are called Wagner High School, and I noticed that some of you were talking about us in a very positive manner. I appreciate this! I felt like it might be fun to join in the conversation. What do ya'll think our chances are, being that we are a new school and all? We do not have many seniors, are team will be almost all Juniors and Sophmores next year. I believe we have one of the best coaches in the state in Coach Gibbens, I think we will be alright.

Big brother Moses casts one hell of a shadow so it'll be interesting to see how Wagner develops.
I've heard there are good athletes feeding into Wagner. 26-5A isn't a great place to have to start varsity football, but I'm sure the trial by fire can prove beneficial also.

Is Converse north of San Antonio? What are Wagner's nickname and school colors?
Also, whenver I looked at the enrollments of the schools, Converse Judson's enrollment was huge. Does Converse have a setup like Plano, where 9-10 grade are at separate campuses and 11-12 are at a central location?

Here is a map.
http://www.countymapsoftexas.com/aagifs/bexar_map.gif
Converse can be considered North East of San Antonio.
Wagner, is right near Kirby, which can be wrapped into the Eastern part of San Antonio.
So, Converse Judson is on the North East of San Antonio and Wagner high school is basically on the East side.
Judson High School and Wagner High School are right down FM 78 from each other. Wagner is actually on Foster Rd., right across from Candlewood and Sunrise.
I suppose Wagner is basically on the NE also, but maps can sometimes be tricky.
Wagner will make the playoffs next year. 3rd place.
They will do well and will give a good game and possibly beat Schertz Clemens in non-district.
Great Luck to Wagner in 2006 and beyond!

The district is hard every year. Here is how I handicap the teams and this is not in order:
Judson- You know they're tough with the 15 regional titles in the last 24 years. Until shown otherwise, they're a contender.
SV- These guys have played for 3 titles this decade and have been regional champs 3 of the 4 years in 5A.
Madison- They make the playoffs almost every year and have gone at least 4 rounds deep 3 times this decade.
Reagan- They're new, but keep getting better at football and already were good at other sports. They almost made the playoffs this year.
MacArthur- They were decent the last 2 years and won't be a pushover.
Churchill- They have a top QB and might be pretty good next year, too.
Roosevelt- These guys have made a few playoff runs and are pretty good in non-playoff years, too.
Lee- These guys are the worst in the district.
That means Wagner can be pretty good and still finish in 6th through 8th place.

Wagner is actually closer to Woodlake Hills and Metzger Middle Schools. They are all North of the FM 78/Foster Road intersection which is still part of San Antonio. Not sure why it's being called Converse Wagner.
I am looking forward to the upcoming season. I was able to attend a few of Wagner's freshmen and JV games. They looked good. They played with a great deal of intensity and Coach Gibbens is an excellent coach IMO. Students from Kirby MS and Metzger MS will feed into Wagner. Both schools' have good football programs. Metzger has been open for only two years and the current 8th grade class won the football conference championship game their 1st year as 7th graders and again this year (good coaching from Guy Anderson, ex-Judson HS QB standout). Judson will be comprised of students from Woodlake Hills MS and Kitty Hawk MS. In the past years, Woodlake has been a contender in the playoffs; however, Kitty Hawk has not been doing so well. Will be interesting to see how or if that will affect Judson in the next few seasons.
One thing you forgot to mention was that although Judson has the two campuses (red & gray), unlike Plano, they do not have one location strictly for 9-10th graders and the other for 11-12th graders. That may change as the district is planning to hire principal's for both locations and the current principal of Judson HS (Brad Williams) is being promoted to another position within the district.

FM 78 runs East to West so wouldn't Wagner be considered South of 78? No wonder CJ's passing game didn't fare that well this year! If you WR was running a skinny post you might have thrown a waggle route! :D LOL Don't get madded I'm just funnin' you a little.

Yes, CJ has always had plenty of talented players and very good coaching. As far as why we didn't get to the title game - three words- JAMES HENRY & TURNOVERS! LOL And again, yes you are correct that Clemens experienced Judson in the playoffs in 04, but look back to the year before and you'll see that Judson experienced Clemens at their home field in the same manner.
I have no doubt that Wagner is going to be a tough game for Clemens this coming year. As a matter of fact, I've been one of the guys saying that Wagner will be the dominant team in JISD in the very near future. I've also stated that Judson's awesome dominance that they have shown for the last 20+ years is over. They will still be a very top notched program as long as Rackley is there but they will not dominate everyone like they did in the past. I truly believe that Wagner will be competing at the highest of levels within a couple of short years!

2. If NB's 2004 and 2005 seasons were jsut blips on the screen as opposed to a sign of things to come.

NB Canyon could possibly have won 25-5A this past year had they been in 5A. They took it to Seguin in predistrict and made the 4A state quarterfinals. Missed point after attempt kept them from going further against CC Calallen.

THERE WERE 0 FIRST DOWNS AND 0 POINTS FOR THE ROCKETS IN THE 2ND HALF OF THAT CONTEST! IN FACT, I BELEIVE THAT JUDSON JUST MAY HAVE HAD NEGATIVE YARDS IN THE SECOND HALF! AND THIS SHUT DOWN WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY A SCHOOL WITH LESS THAN 1/2 OF THE STUDENTS JUDSON HAD! :)
Didn't both schools have 11 on the field at the same time. That sounds pretty even to me. And Judson did it for a whole game.

I couldn't say but I'd take a win-loss record of 11-1! :D :p LOL Don't you mean 1-11 when you say Clemens win-loss record?
I only know that we one 1 of 4 district games against them from 2000-20003 and then got spanked in the playoffs in 04'. That would make Clemens 1-4 against CJ in recent years. We gave the game away (missed extra point and several TOs inside red zone) to CJ in 03' 14-13 and all Judson did was when state on the Hail Mary Pass Play! I believe the year before we lost in triple OT at Judson and in 2000 it was a pretty damn good game also. ALL IN ALL, I'D SAY CLEMENS DOESN'T NEED TO HANG THEIR HEADS WITH THE WAY THEY HANDLED THEMSELVES AGAINST THE GREAT CJ ROCKETS OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS (EXCEPT FOR 04' PLAYOFF GAME). I look at it this way. It would be no different than Clemens playing Marion (5,000 vs 2,000 or 2,000 vs 800) except that there is no way in hell Marion could have come close to beating Clemens.

Yes but it is not the number in your school, it is the number that tries out for football. If school A has 5000 students and school B has 3000 student, but each school only has 70 kids try out for football, then both schools have the same number to choose from.:o

Bubbacoach, just when I started to really admire you, that is an ignoramous comment. :) You know damn well if you have more kids to pick from the chances are that you will get better natural athletes than the school with less to pick from. Let me put this into terms that we both understand. Is there a better chance to have more trophy bucks if you have 2,500 bucks or if you have 1,000? LOL

So what you are telling me is that teams like Lee, Highlands, East Central, Victoria, the large 5A Valley Schools etc. should be better than Clemens, because they have more kids in their school. I say it again, if both teams only have 50 kids go out, both schools only have 50 kids to pick from. It has nothing to do with the number of kids in your school, it has to do with what type of kids are in your school. What is your ethnic make-up, socio-economic make-up, ect.. You only can play with what you have on the field, not with what you have in the hallway. I used to hear it all the time at Judson, how someone could put a team togethor out of what is walking the halls at Judson and beat Judson. Maybe, but those kids did absolutely no good to anyone Friday night because they were in the stands.;)

You are exactly correct! What a blowout. Our kids possibly played worse in that game then they did against Madison this year. Either way, in both games our kids did not come to play and got their A$$E$ handed to them on a silver platter.
AMEN to that! TAKS is the biggest waste of time ever introduced into the public school system! Our educators are teaching how to pass a stupid A$$ test instead of educating our children!
You gotta play hard in the playoffs. It's not Judson's or Madison's fault that Clemens didn't show up to play.
And don't get started on this 5000 kid crap again.

Let me just put this a few ways:
How many kids does La Joya have???? How many State Championships have they been to in the past few years???
By having more kids, you have more trouble makers, bigger classes, more out of shape people, more people in band, more people in choir, more people in everything. This does not mean you will have more athletes. How many D1 players have come out of Judson in the past few years. Only 2 that I know of have played in the NFL. How many D1 players came out of Westfield last year? A lot more than have come out of Judson in the past 10. Did Judson have a bigger student body last year than Westfield? YES
AND if more kids truly does give you more good athletes, what happend this year when Judson only had 3500 kids instead of 5k? I guess the whole State Finalists thing is just a big prank we pulled? Its not real, is it?

No RTRN, it was 3250 this year. We've heard that about enrollment for years and my reply is the following. Tell me clemensbuff, why the following schools who have huge enrollments (Alief schools, Plano East, Plano West, Dallas Skyline, The Woodlands, Westfield, Lajoya, Houston Memorial) do not have the state titles that Judson has earned? When Judson won their 1st 5 titles they did not rank in the top ten in enrollment. The 1st 3 not in the top 20. Or you can ask SLC how it competes? Now, there won't be any excuses for Clemens not to win it all in 4A. They must be one of the biggest 4A schools and should make it to semifinals every year just like they did wihen they were 4A earlier.
Clemens coaching staff has done an excellent job over the last decade. They are very similar to Judson in the 80's and early 90's in make up of the type of players. They will continue to do well and both Steele and Wagner will be very good in the years to come, but look for Wagner to make playoffs in the nest 2-3 years. Earlier than another school in our district.
personally, I am excited that the NE side of San Antonio is doing well in football and will continue to do well in the future. We all know that will not make NEISD happy.

I agree with you that if each school has the same number of kids go out for football that the talent pool is pretty much a dead heat. But you know as well as I that if a school has twice as many kids as another it is a given that there are going to be many more come out for each sport than the smaller school has come out. Probably not twice as many, but for sure more than the smaller school.
As for your take on Lee and the other schools, I agree with you. Why don't they have good programs??? Coaching, commitment, dedication! No doubt whatsoever that CJ has been the most dominant 5a program ever because of several things including the three words in the previous sentence but having large numbers surely did not hurt either.

As for the numbers argument please see my response to bubbacoach. I also agree that there are always exceptions to any of the rules about enrollment. Judson has not dominated for 25+ years simply because of the numbers. Much of their dominance has been because of great coaching and kids that respond to it!
As far as Clemens being one of the largest schools in 4a, not even close. We will be around 1,500 and the cut off is mid 1,900s. Dropping 4a from 5a doesn't mean an instant championship. Just look at Sam Houston!!! Everyone said that they would be competing for the title when they were dropped in the early 90s and if I remember in six years in the district with Clemens I don't think the saw the end zone more than twice! The top teams in 4a can compete with the top teams in 5a. The only difference between them is going to be on the depth chart. A 4a team's second teamers are not going to be near the quality of a 5a teams. Another point on this matter is to look at Austin Westlake. They could not win the big one in 4a but they damn sure did it their first (maybe second) year in 5a. So what does that say? I say that it means that top 4a football is every bit as good as 5a!
On Wagner, I definately agree with you 110%

All you do is complain and make excuses.
Everyone on here knows I am a Clemens fan and everyone on here knows that I am not making excuses for them when they get dominated.
That's all you do is try and cover up for them and use moronic enrollment excuses.
When the game has started and each team lines up the same number of guys of the field, I do not care if it's Judson with an enrollment of 45454554 vs Poth with an enrollment of 45.
The guys on the field for Judson beat the guys on the field for Poth, therefore, Judson is better than Poth.
Stop making excuses and looking for an easy way out.

Speaking as an alumni and former athlete for Clemens, I will say the parents and daddies make excuses, NOT, the athlete.
We go out there and are taught to play for the win and if we get beaten then shake your opponents hand and get ready for the next game.
The parents and cry baby daddies are the ones that like to cover up the truth and make excuses.
Move on and get over it.
Schertz needs to win the 4A state title next season.

Tom Landry used to invite 100+ free agents to camp every year.He was playing the numbers game, and did well at it.The NFL finally put a limit on invitees.Tom new the more bodies the better chance for fielding a dominate team over the team that only brought in half that to choose from.
It`s no different than a rich man making his money work for him, compared to a man that has half of what the rich man has to work with. Some rich can fall with bad investments, and the man with half to work with can make it,but the odds (money,(-Players)) are against him.
