Football University, a national, invitation-only training camp run by former NFL players and coaches, is coming to Houston this weekend.

It's 30-city tour stops here on Friday and runs through Sunday. Football University selects and invites the region's elite high school and youth players (6th-12th grade) to undergo three days of intense football training, all under the tutelage of former NFL players and coaches. "Football University" is developed by All American Games (formerly SportsLink), the creators of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The camp opened in February with over 280 athletes in Hawaii from grades 7th to 11th grade receiving NFL instruction.

It is invite-only...no nominations.

It will take place at Cinco Ranch High School and the on-field camp starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Yeah when they say invite they mean they invite you to pay your money up front then you can get your kid in (LOL) The Nike football combine will be in town as well and that is free of charge.

True sgp3...My son did FBU last year and enjoyed the experience. This year he will be tested at Nike and NUC. As a 6' QB/Ath/P on a .500 team, it's a reasonable roll of the dice to try and put some solid numbers down. They are all a money grab (except the free ones). However, solid combine numbers verified by an independent source can earn a kid a second look. If a no name WR runs a 4.45, whether he caught anything or not, odds are his phone is going to start ringing.

If a kid is already a highly sought 6' 4", 220 lb gun slinger and runs a 4.5, it a waste of time and money.

Red Raider, is your son being looked at seriously by DI programs? If he is GREAT! If not, get in touch with Midwestern State up here in Wichita Falls. Coach Maskill and his staff do a great job. They are always looking for athletes. Just trying to get kids to come to my Alma Mater.

He's getting D1 mail and one jr day invite. There are a lot of "prototypical" kids in front of him. He is currently just over 6' and plays QB. Hopefully, the success shorter QBs are having in both the NCAA and NFL will get him and other shorter QBs earlier serious looks.

I thought one of his senior teamates, CJ Love was going to sign with Midwestern State. Thanks for the heads up!

Hey tell your son to say he an athlete playing QB for his school. Also he will help if he can play DB as well. So tell him to work on his hips and feet and start covering wideout when he get the chance. Will he be a senior next year. I will be at Nike Combine this weekend in Houston if you like you can PM me.

from a one time college recruiters point of view....no...we do not put much stake in these combines....

the combines that are actually ran by the actual colleges are the ones you want to attend...it is very easy to find out where they will be held...

some coaches will actuall make a mini tour of the state (TCU)...if you as a player intiate cntact, by filling out the quesrionaire, and sending personal emails (evry two weeks)...you will raise an eyebrow when you go to the combine/camp....just remember per NCAA rules the coach may not be able to get back with you every time you sen an email....

now with that being said, it does not hurt to go to a combine to learn how to test...just dont expect to be recruited from one.......good luck

letters are good...but please dont take that as if he was being recruited...make sure you follow up with each coach...a good sign is when the coaches are actually requesting his transcripts...

of coarse....:laugh

make sure you have your packets ready for when coaches request info from your high school coach:

1. video

2. unofficial transcripts

3. personal bio

4. sat/act scores

In most cases, coaches will ask for this info before the make an official request.
