Agree- How in the heck do you know what the kid will be like when he is a Senior. Really pretty silly to me.

That characterization will fit well with Lane Kiffin.

Not really a new phenomenon except in this country. We don't bat an eye when tennis players/gymnasts/etc. go down this route. 'd suggest most high level swimmers also fit this bill to a degree. Identify them young. With the proliferation of the AAU, college basketball players are committing younger and younger.

Not that big of a shoc, although I don;t know that I want Texas doing it. Still a lot of variables that can go wrong.

But in Tennis and gymnastics they compete on a national level very early. By the time a gymnast is 20 she is to old. He will not be competing on that level until he is 18. To many things could happen. Injury, not growing or change of attitude about football.

I do agree I am not shocked but I don't think they do the kid any favors. I also don't think they do baseball or basketball players any favor either taking them to early. But that's the mom coming out, I am sure.

Baseball/softball/soccer/volleyball all compete regionally if not nationally at those ages now. Not saying it's right however, but they do.

In other countries, the pro teams have teams all the way down to U12. Tehy sign them early. Most wash out or get sold to another club, but they start them early.

In the 13+ years I swam competitively and also going through recruiting (at a DII level), I can say that I have never heard of a middle school age swimmer getting a scholarship offer.

Girls are a bit different than boys, as you will often find 15+ girls at the top levels of the sport. Truly elite, not so much. Michael Phelps is the exception rather than the rule for teenagers getting to the Olympics, usually high school age boys have no prayer.

Middle school swimming is a dicey time. By the time the kids who were great at 13 or 14 hit 18, often they aren't even making state finals anymore.

Screw me then.

Just offering up some information.

I wonder if this offer can be pulled or not. I just think that middle school recruiting is insanity.

Stoops and ou pulled Jarret Lake's offer the night before he was going to sign with them to make room for Corey Nelson. I don't think Kiffin will have any issues pulling it some time in the next five years for some reason.

Bob Stoops said they parted "shortly after Christmas." In Stoops language, that might very well mean "we parted a bit more than a month after Christmas."

Jarrett Lake sure as hell didn't decomitt shortly after Christmas.

Can't recall the last time I went to shaggybevo. Interesting that onsigning day, his coach doesn't appear to know...

Today, he will sign with Oklahoma. He will become a Sooner. He will take his official first step as a college football player.

But most importantly for Lake, he will return to football.

"I know he’s excited about the opportunity to participate in football again,” Jenks interim coach Loren Montgomery said.

http://www.newsok.com/article/3436675

It’s one addition and one subtraction for Oklahoma on National Signing Day.

Jarrett Lake, the former Jenks player who had been verbally committed to OU since last summer, signed with Arkansas. But OU gained Corey Nelson, a Texas A&M commitment from Dallas Skyline.

And if Lake was projected as a future Sooner linebacker — his 6-2, 205-pound frame suggested that was possible — Nelson could fill that void. He is a 6-foot, 210-pounder rated as the nation’s No. 3 prep outside linebacker by ESPN.com, and the No. 4 outside ‘backer by Scout.com, whose 2009 season included 133 tackles, nine sacks and 16 stops for lost yardage.

He became a Parade and Under Armour All-American and was named the state’s AP Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year.

The who’s who of colleges who offered him a scholarship included Florida, Texas, LSU, Tennessee and Nebraska. Eventually, Nelson pledged to Texas A&M. He reportedly switched his commitment to OU late last week after Sooner coaches visited him, but then appeared to reaffirm his commitment to A&M after those reports surfaced.

OU won the battle when it received his letter of intent just before 11 this morning, taking some of the sting out of losing Lake earlier today when national recruiting service Rivals.com listed Lake as having signed with Arkansas.

Sources indicated to the Tulsa World on Tuesday that Lake might not sign with the Sooners. Reached by phone, Lake said he was in a tutoring session and could not talk about it. Attempts to reach him later Tuesday as well as this morning failed.

Jenks interim coach Loren Montgomery told the World in an email Tuesday that Lake “should sign tomorrow with OU.”

There was no word from either OU or Arkansas, as schools cannot discuss prospects until they have officially signed. Arkansas is not releasing its signees until later this afternoon. As of 10 this morning, Lake was not among the 22 signees listed on OU’s site.

After committing to the Sooners, Lake was ruled ineligible by the OSSAA for his senior season at Jenks over a residence issue, the first event in a chain reaction that eventually saw the suspension of coach Allan Trimble. Lake remained at Jenks, and was on track to contribute to OU’s nationally-touted recruiting class.

That changed Wednesday morning, ironically thanks in part to a former Sooner quarterback. Rivals listed Garrick McGee, Arkansas’ quarterbacks coach, as the Razorbacks’ Lake recruiter.

Rivals also reported that John Cullen, the prized Fullerton (Calif.) College offensive lineman who OU pursued, has signed with Utah. Cullen told the World on Tuesday night, “I’m pretty much liking SC (Southern Cal) and OU, but Utah’s in there as well.”

Well I can tell you that Stoops hadn't talked to the Jenks head coach about it. Not enough time since Christmas though. Also, is Jenks really that big of a school in Oklahoma? Perhaps he wasn't aware of exactly where it is or something.

Guy needs to quit fooling around with kids.

So does USC start providing this kid's family a house now? Or does the family have to wait until he actually gets on campus before they move in?

And, unless he's dating a girl much older than him, who will be provided the Escalade for him to be driving around in??
