As anyone seen the district schedules for 265a? My son knows the non-district games but he doesn't know how the district games will be with Lee getting back in.

All I know is Judson has a bye week the first week of district (week 3), then has 8 district games in a row:(

Huh Uh. It would be nice in the middle or, if your team is going to make the playoffs, week 10.

From a trainer standpoint, it is very much wanted. That gives injured players another week to recover after 8 straight weeks of district play in the toughest district in the state. But when you look at it from a momentum standpoint it is bad because you never want to take too long a break before a game.

First shut out in like 13 years or something right? Ah, our homecomming was Madison (it was like the only Friday night game we had at Comalander and we were away) And we lost like 21-9. Lol, but what I kidna of found funny...Lee scheduled US (Reagan) as homecomming last year. Reagan then recorded it's firstever shutout 45-0......

Suprisingly good. They have mostly Judson coaches and most of their starters next year played at Judson for 1-2 years. I am not saying they will do extremely good, but don't take them lightly.

Who did they get from Judson that played a varsity down? They have no experience that will hurt. Do you know how many kids they have playing football? They could not have that many? So depth will probably be an issue, also.

Hopefully the JISD version of the Thunderbirds can do as well overall (or better, actually) as the Hinkley High School Thunderbirds in Arurora, CO have done over the years. Hinkley HS was opened as the second HS in the APS in 1963. Situated between Buckley AFB and the now former Fitzimons AMC installation, it has hosted its share of Army and Air Force brats over the decades (the ES I attended for the first half of 1st grade, Elkhart--is the closest ES to it), and has boasted a very diverse student population. HHS won the 4A football championship in 1997, and also did the same in Basketball a few months later.

Wagner HS, also home of the Thunderbirds, is JISD's second HS, and located just down the road from where I lived in Woodlake until 2001. Located between Fort Sam Houston and Randolph AFB, it too is hosting its share of Army and AF brats, and boasts a very diverse student population. A new flight of T-Birds prepares for lift off.

Wagner held on to beat O'Connors JV last year in a close game and had six or so guys who could have started in most Varsity programs. O'Connors JV Team was made up mostly of Sophmores. Keep in mind that OCs Varsity had 17 Sophmores dressing most games from the previous years unbeaten Fresh Team. A large number or those Sophmores never saw JV time last year. In comparison, the Steven's JV team was awesome and easily handled OC's JVs. Steven's could have come in at the Varsity level and won a couple of games. Wagner will be great in a couple of years with all the kids available in their area and once everyone buys into the Judson like program. It took OC a couple of years...and their coaches came from the Judson program as well.....It's a winning tradition and I'm glad to see it spreading....

As I've stated before, Wagner's JV was 7-2 losing to Stevens by 7 and Jay by 5 while winning most of their other games by 3+TD's. Freshmen teams were a combined 15-1-1 losing to Warren & tieing Jay. Most of their victories were again by 4+ TD's. Wagner will find it tough going next year, but they won't finish in the cellar.

Judson's last two district games next year are SV & Reagan.

No, we wanted to start out in 5A for the competition. Even if we take our lumps, it will only make us better. I think we have close to 65 in varsity athletics, I do not think we will all be on varsity. We have some guys that the coaches put as swing players, with two positions. I am not sure what that means for them.

The enrollment numbers only include 3 classes. There is not senior class at Wagner right now. So when you add in a 4th, the enrollment is going to jump up to 5A numbers. The UIL has an equation or something for this.

This cannot be correct. How can you have 7 games at Judson? Even if the one against Judson is an "away" game for Wagner, thats still 6 home games, with only one at Commalander.

They should have it set up where when Judson is at home, Wagner should be away. Example: Judson vs SV at JISD, Wagner vs Roosevelt at BAC. (made that up)

Otherwise one team is going to have to play on thursday or saturday. I know its not possible to always have it set up like that, but it should be as close as possible.

I think you may have the wrong site for the Sept 15th Madison game. Otherwise, you have 5 home games and 3 away games (counting Judson as an away game already).

I'd be willing to bet that the Wagner vs. Madison game is played at Blossom, not Judson Stadium.

SV has 4 home and 4 away, it makes sense that ALL teams play 4 home and 4 away with the games alternating each week between home and away and sites reversing the following year. Each team has 8 opponents...

This would also allow Judson home games to equal FOUR as whenever Wagner is at home, Judson is away (with the exception of the Judson-Wagner game, of course)

1 can see 1 home and road game in non-district.

They have 8 district games, so it should be 4 home and 4 road. Since they play Judson, they should have 5 games at Judson Stadium in district and 3 on the road.

But you have to consider that most of the teams they played were the "B" teams of the other schools. Most of their "A" teams had games with the team their varsity was playing on their schedule. New schools have a hard time finding "A" team games for their subvarsity because the best "A" JV and freshman teams follow the varsity district and non-district schedule.

Canyon, SV football to begin in Alamodome

By Will Wright
The Herald-Zeitung

Published March 03, 2006

SAN ANTONIO — It was a nice little gathering, staged Thursday at the Alamodome to herald the teams competing in this season’s Texas Football Classic.

For the first time in the eight-year history of the Classic, affiliated with the magazine of the same name and annually showcases some of the state’s top teams in kicking off the high school football season, two Comal County teams have been chosen — Canyon’s Cougars and Smithson Valley’s Rangers.

Canyon will play Pflugerville Hendrickson at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, with Smithson Valley playing The Woodlands at noon Saturday, Sept. 2. Beginning the five-game affair will be San Antonio Madison and Seguin, which will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31.

Both Canyon and Smithson Valley are building their varsities almost from scratch after losing hordes of seniors to graduation. Last season both teams advanced deep in the playoffs, with the Cougars (12-2) making the state quarterfinals and the Rangers (13-2) in the state semifinals.

Larry Hill’s Smithson Valley team played in the 2002 Classic, defeating Port Arthur Memorial 43-13. The Rangers are regulars playing at the Alamodome, having played several playoff games there in recent seasons. Smithson Valley lost 52 seniors who fashioned a 26-5 record the past two seasons, so the game should make for quite an experience for this year’s crop.

“We’ve got a whole new group of kids, and we’re facing an opponent who’s obviously been in big games before. They have a great tradition,” Hill said. “To get ready to play that early is hard, but getting ready early to play The Woodlands is even more of a daunting task.”

The Highlanders finished 7-4 last season, losing to College Station A&M Consolidated 30-12 in the bidistrict round of the Class 5A-Division I playoffs. In 2004 they advanced to the regional semifinals under coach Mark Schmid.

“We’ve always tried to schedule really good people early because it heightens the importance of spring training and summer conditioning in the players’ minds,” said Hill, whose team begins spring drills April 24. “It’ll get them ready to play earlier, but whether it will work out that way on the field is something we’ll have to see.”

Canyon lost 34 seniors from a squad that was 20-4 the last two campaigns. It’s the first Classic invite for the Cougars, who have gone 32-6 in three seasons under coach Les Davis.

“When you’re sitting up on the dais with all of these great coaches, it’s pretty humbling to be included in all of this,” Davis said. “I got a call from (Texas Football executive director) Adam Hochfelder, who left me a message asking if we wanted to play. I was kind of thinking it must have been a mistake. But I jumped on the opportunity. I was thinking what a great way it would be to start the season.”

Hendrickson will be only in its third season of varsity football, having gone 7-4 and made the playoffs after a 3-7 finish in 2004 under coach Dwayne Weirich.

“I know that coach Weirich is a good football coach and that he’s been on the Pflugerville staff,” Davis said. “I had occasion to witness their talent in one of the (opponent’s) game films from last year, and they’re a good team that’s well-coached. So it’s going to be a great game. It’s a great honor. We just want to play a great game and get started, and it will be a lot of fun.”

Streety, a former New Braunfels High coach who still lives in New Braunfels, says he’s not looking forward to playing Seguin, especially after losing 25 players that included every skill player at Madison, which finished 11-3 and lost to Smithson Valley in last season’s 5A-Division II state quarterfinal.

“We’ve got a new team with a bunch of new players. They will be very starry-eyed but it will be a great experience for our guys,” said Streety, whose team defeated Corpus Christi Carroll 59-20 in its first Classic appearance. “But this is a great way to start the season. We had a great experience when we did this in 2001, so we know that it’s going to be done right.”

Is there a reason why the coaches don't want to release schedules? My son tried but no luck. He did get confirmation on the SV game being Mac's first game but that's all they would say.

Most of them were A teams they played because of Del Rio and the travel for JV teams.

Usually you do not want an easy game that early. You want someone to test you. :D

Madison will be down next year with the loss of Caflisch, but they are ussually a decent program. If you guys beat them it will be the first big win over a good program Seguin has had in the last 5-10 years. I will then say you are above average.:D

Didn't you want a piece of Judson last year? Didn't you say that you would be in good shape against Judson? I guess with your definition of good shape, you are probably right.

That was a miscalculation... we would have beat the Judson team that I was talking of in week 7 and 8. Next year Judson won't be as talented as us, though.

LOL, I missed your answer and posted that before I saw your answer. Seguin is missing a few key parts to being a good program. They have a few good players now, but they lack depth and they do not know how to win the big game.
