Okay, so AHS & Cooper are both in the playoffs for sure. Midland is pretty much a lock with Lee and Cooper left to play; Lee is currently in position to take the 4th spot with Midland & Odessa left.

Commentary...??

Odessa might make the playoffs. They have Lee and Permian left and both are very winnable. Lee won't beat Midland, so they'll have to beat Odessa to lock it up. Permian could beat Odessa, but won't beat Abilene. There's the possibility of a 3 way tie for the district title if Cooper beats Abilene, then Midland beats Cooper. I predict the winner of Abilene and Cooper takes district IMO.

Probably. Odessa's future is still dependent on whether on not Marquez plays. Wouldn't surprise me if the 'chos pulled it out for the 4th spot.

Win out (Odessa and Abilene) and have Odessa beat Lee. I think that's right.

Actually, it could happen if-

Permian beats OHS, loses to Abilene

OHS loses to Permian, beats Lee

Lee loses to Midland, loses to OHS

all three teams would be 1-4, with no clear cut head-to-head tiebreaker between the teams. It would then go to a points tiebreaker. District 3-5A uses positive and negative points, with a cap at 12. So, whoever wins that points tiebreaker would be the 4th place team, with a 1-4 district record.

Cooper offense is definitely dangerous thru the air and on the ground.....will be a great challenge for our D. Both offenses r dangerous and can score anytime from anywhere on the field.

See these offenses are loaded with playmakers!!!;) That offense u categorized as such a couple weeks ago....u remember them they put 52 on ya.....not so much.

Time for cross town predictions!

Abilene vs. Cooper
Midland vs. Midland Lee
Odessa vs. Permian

I'm going with Abilene, Midland, and Permian. Abilene and Cooper should be the best game in the state this weekend. Huge match up with explosive offenses, but it's defense that will win this game. Abilene definitely has the edge there and I'm going with the Warbirds by 14. Midland is a very good football team and Lee is scrappy and a bit of an over achiever. Records mean nothing in this game, but the physicality of the Dawgs in the trenches will be too much for the Rebs. Midland by 21. Last the 'chos and Mojo. Against my better judgement, I'm picking the Panthers on pride alone. I don't know if Bradley Marquez will play of not for Odessa, but if he does then it will be very tough for Permian to stop him. Word is that Mojo will get a couple key players back as well, so who knows? My bet is that Permian is due for a good, complete game and if there's any problem with Marquez than Odessa's offense just can't finish drives. Mojo by 7.

Well another week done in the LSWC.

Cooper 45 Abilene 28
Odessa 38 Permian 21
Midland 43 Lee 36

Standings with one week to play in the regular season:

Cooper 4-0
Abilene 3-1
Midland 3-1
Lee 1-3
Odessa 1-3
Permian 0-4

eaglefan87
10-30-2010, 12:40 AM
So Cooper is in the driver's seat now. They have a HUGE game against Midland at Grande Communications Stadium next week. Cooper wins and they are District Champs and Abilene is runnerup regardless if AHS beats Permian next week or not because AHS owns the tie breaker head to head with Midland.

If Midland can pull off, what would be a huge upset IMO and Abilene beats Permian then there is a three way tie for the Championship at 4-1. To be honest I dont know how they go about sorting that out....hopefully it ain't a coin flip at a truck stop somewhere on I20. If Midland and Permian win then Midland will be Champion by virtue of head to head tie breaker over Cooper, Cooper would be runner up and Abilene would be third.

In any scenario the battle for the last PO spot will be between Lee and Odessa at Ratliff.

If i got any of this wrong please correct me and someone who kknows the tiebreaker system please fill us in on that.

There you go, those outcomes and no worries about a three way tie for the title anyway. 3-5A uses head to head and then a positive points system I think.

Bi District set...

The Eagles will visit Arlington High at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Texas-Arlington’s Maverick Stadium, site of Abilene High’s state quarterfinal victory last year over Arlington Bowie.

Cooper, which will be 3-5A’s No. 1 seed in Division II, will state the playoffs against either Arlington Lamar or North Crowley at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Shotwell Stadium. The only way North Crowley can beat out Lamar for that last playoff berth in District 4-5A is to beat Lamar by 12 more points in Friday’s regular-season finale at at North Crowley.

The Colts can both pass and run.
Miles O. is better than Marquez behind center and has more options.
Don't hedge on there being no problems.
It's a winnable game for Arlington.

Off topic with all the playoff news but I've been particularly intrigued by the SOS calculations this year, mainly due to the killer schedule AHS has played. What blew away is that Lee actually has the #1 ranked SOS as of Week 9 of the season and Permain is at #9:

Midland Lee #1
Abilene #2
Permian #9
Odessa #19
Midland #26
Cooper #33 (up from 40 something a week ago)

Also cool that all 6 are in the top 35 in the state

it's about a 2 hour drive if you dont run into a cattle drive crossing Hwy 87 outside of town. Cant see why the Arlington coach agreed to this, and in a bus I can't see how Arlington makes it there in under 6 hours. definitely give the advantage to Midland solely because of the travel. Question, what is the collective mileage Arlington traveled this entire season and does it equal the 300+ they're going to travel to the Lbk?

Abilene and Arlington should be a really good game, but the Colts have a pourous defense that the Eagles should be able to exploit even without Herschel Sims, Abilene by 14. Cooper should be able to name the amount of points it wants to score against Lamar. The only question is which Cooper D will show up. I think the Coogs give up a few points, but still out this one away by the end of the 3rd quarter, Cooper by 21. Midland and Bowie should also be a great game both with head coaches that turned their programs around. The Bowie offense is usually pretty explosive, but has been quieter this year than in years past. Midland has a stout defense, a good running game, and factor in Bowie traveling more than twice as far to go to Lubbock and give me the Dawgs by 10. Odessa will have a tough time beating Martin on their home turf. Martin has athletes on both sides of the ball, but have also shown times where they played less than up to their potential. Odessa's run ing attack has really come on strong toward the end of the season and Marquez is as explosive as they come, so if Martin doesn't contain the 'chos running game it could be closer than expected. With that said, I'm picking Martin by 20.

Good luck to all LSWC schools, everyone that's traveling be safe, and let's go for the sweep!

Well after Friday night games 3-5A is up on 4-5A 2 games to 1.

Abilene won a thriller over Arlington 31-28. AHS goes down 21-0 early then outscores Arlington 31-7...and wins on a final play FG.

Abilene Cooper and Arlington Martin both dominate in their games.

Saturday Midland-Arlington Bowie game will be the deciding game. Should be a good one. Go Dawgs!

LSWC round 2 of the playoffs predictions.

Abilene vs. El Paso Coronado
Cooper vs. Amarillo Tascosa
Midland vs. El Paso El Dorado

I'm going with the 3-5A sweep. 1-5A and 2-5A just don't have enough fire power to keep up with any of the LSWC schools. Not much else to say other than good luck, and see everyone in round 3!

Picked up my tickets for the AHS game this morning. The ticket lady said the sales for AHS has been slower than usual for a play off game. Perhaps it will pickup this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Looks as the weather will ok.

Gotta work Friday night but am fortunate the Eagles will play on Saturday; will be there ringing my bell and blowing my football horn. However, not alot of yelling because of a cold and sore throat.

So going into Round Three 3-5A is going head to head against 7-5A in both D2R1 games and 1 of the D1 R1 games. 3 of the 4 R1 games for bragging rights this year on which district is king of R1. Should be three battle royals Saturday!!!

I'm rooting for the 3-5A sweep.....that will be a tall order. Too early to make my picks. What say ya'll?

CHS and AHS both SHOULD win theirs in white knuckle fashion. I think Coppell is too much for Midland, but I'll be glad to be wrong.
