AllenEagle06
02-14-2006, 11:12 PM
but describe for me the Pythagorean Theorem...
No problem.
a2 + b2 = c2 (2 means squared)
If you want, you can divide both sides by c squared and you would get...
(a2/c2) + (b2/c2) = 1
which is basically saying...
cos2x + sin2x = 1 (x being equal to theta that is)
If you're feeling fantastic, you could also divide that by cosine squared and you would get...
1 + tan2x = sec2x
But that's just the basics.

To get back on topic.
If I happen to scroll past these movies on tv, I cannot seem to change the channel.
The Waterboy
Billy Madison
Killer Klowns from Outer Space - I loved this movie since I first saw it as a kid. I just can't seem to change the channel. It is so cheesy and you can tell the movie is a B movie, but I continue to watch.
Little Monsters - Fred Savage from the wonder years with this really weird monster, it was a good movie though.
The Breakfast Club - I honestly don't know why I watch this movie, maybe because of all the emotions you grow through in high school. Some people could to relate to at least one of the characters.
I am sure there are more, I just can't think. Out of those movies, only 1 are in my actual collection. Billy Madison.

Best series ever. Leslie Neilson is my favorite comedian.
If you liked the Naked Gun movies, you should look for the Police Squad series. It came out in the early to mid 80's as a TV series on ABC. There were only 6 shows made and they were all like the Naked Gun movies. In fact the movies are based on the series. Neilson was in that series also. When it was cancelled after 6 shows, the 6th was never officially shown on ABC but was shown by affiliates as a filler, the network stated that the show was to involved and intelligent for the average viewer. In short, you can't cook dinner and watch the kids and enjoy the constant non-stop tomfoolery. You had to sit down and WATCH and LISTEN to the show to get the subtle jokes. It was doomed to todays audience, but it made a great movie. Look in the video stores or on ebay for it, it'll be worth your time.

I know it's bad but I have a freakin obssesion with Lord of the Rings that many regard as unhealthy. I can honestly recite every line from any movie, all the way through, know a few elvish words lol, and have read the books like 14 18 and 23 times each for I,II,and III lol. Top that for geekdom lol. I also own a lotr sword, card game, miniatures, poster autographed by the entire cast, Viggo Mortenson's @$$ hair, ect...
If you've read the Silmarillion then you fully qualify as a LOTR geek. :) I haven't tried reading it yet.

Where the Boys Are
Slap Shot
Anything with Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant
I love Old Movies! We watch them and the kids are like "OMG, how OLD is that movie" - sometimes they will sit and watch but make us promise not to tell their friends! I have them all hooked on To Kill A Mockingbird (GREAT movie).

Read that, the book of lost tales, entire history of middle earth series(11 books) and those are just about how lotr was written and the original ideas for it, I take Lotr geek to a new level. I would definately recomend the Silmarillion, its a really entertaining book with some great stories in it, plus its pretty fragmented so you can read it in parts over a long time.

I bought my tickets ahead of time on the internet. The theatre I went to allowed all the people watching to actually go inside the theatre and wait in their seats... We had the best seats in the theatre, and just played poker in a huge aisle in front of us :D.

I haven't experienced any movie theater events like Star Wars (IE, anticipation, waiting in line). Not even close. I thought the Matrix Reloaded would be near Star Wars level, but that wasn't close. Lord of the Rings wasn't either. Spiderman had a good line built up before the movie, but it was about 1/3 of a Star Wars. I remember sitting on the floor of an aisle to watch Back to the Future when I was in elementary because all of the seats and standing room at the back were taken.
I ended up watching Star Wars Episode II at a special overhead sound projection theather in Abingdon, Virginia (near Blacksburg...home of VA Tech) and the whole place rattled, rumbled every time a ship flew on the screen. Definitely not a place for those with bladder control issues and they told us that going in. You could hear the sounds from outside the building. Awesome.

I cheated and didn't read the whole thread (just this page) but thought I would add my two cents anyway.
My all time fav movie that not a lot of people know that I attended was two years of every Friday and Saturday night at Rocky Horror Picture Show. Yes, I dressed up and was part of the cast. That was one of the best memories I have of going to the movies.
My best friend and I still go every once in a while. I even had a moment of weakness and we drug my 16 year old daughter to it for her birthday. She is a bit more conservative than her wild Mom and she just looked at everyone funny and made crude comments. Oh well. I'll go again some day. Perhaps I'll even drag Miss Kitty along this time.

pythagorean theorem, was created by a man with the last name pythagoreaus..its a^2+b^2=c^2
c=length of hypotenuse
a=length of one leg
b=length of other leg
used in a right triangle
also can be helpful when working with sine, cosine, and tangent
Once again, sarcasm, my brother.
