So, Will Stoops Hire Jeffcoat for Open DE Coach Position?

Lets see, Jackson is set to visit Norman this weekend...Jacqueline Jeffcoat, Jackson's sister and Jim's daughter will be playing her basketball career in Norman and now OU needs a DE coach after Chris Wilson was named Co-DC/DL at Mississippi State. Jim had previsously interviewed for the open DE coach position in 2005, but Stoops hired Wilson instead and Jim went to Houtson, where he is currently a DL coach under former OU asst. Kevin Sumlin.


I'd say it pretty much means Jackson is likely leaning toward OU, at least lightly as it stands now and obviously heavily if Papa Jeffcoat is hired.

OU girls basketball sure is a famous destination for relatives of famous athletes. Olajuwon's kid, Roethlisberger's sister. now this.

let me say this though...i don't think stoops would hire the older jeffcoat just because of his son...there is a ton of talent at the defensive end position right now at OU, and he's going to hire someone who can maximize the talent at the position. i don't know how good of a coach jeffcoat is, but he was a pretty darn good pro wasn't he?

I agree with you Yankee... I could see a package deal happening at 80% of the other D1 schools, but not a major program like OU.

Stoops will want to fill that slot with the best coach he can find.. Papa Jeffcoat very well could be at the top of his list, regardless of junior.

I think the younger Jeffcoat is a little over rated, having seen him play several times during his high school career. I don't see Stoops making that blunder.

I agree. I dont believe Stoops would hire him just because of Jackson either. Jim's qualifications stand firmly on their own. He was a pretty good coach for the Cowboys, in addition to being a helluva player and by all accounts he is a good coach at Houston as well. It could be a great package if it happens though. A personal friend who is tied to the P West program says that Jackson has basically been taught by his dad and thats good enough to make him one of the top prospects in the country...I'd think that is a plus for the coaching resume by itself.

Besides, coaches look much better when they have the type of players that OU does..:)
