After being verbally committed to Baylor for over a year...he switches.

This is how bad it was for us last year....we usually have a few D-1'ers......only one this year.

Should have a bunch the next couple of years...........

The Last time I checked you could only sign with one college at a time!

Navarro Jr. College is holding the signed National Letter of Intent in this recruits case, so why all the talk and press conference about signing with Texas Tech or Baylor?

The player didn't sign with either of those teams so why all the photos with Texas Tech stuff hanging up in the background? The young man is a good player and probably does deserve to be playing at a D-1 school.

But Texas Tech promised several more scholarships than what they actually had available - Tech left a lot of good players having to go to JUCO ball at the last minute.

Leach is needs to get his act together in the recruiting department or no Texas HS coach will ever let their best players commit to a program that over promises and under delivers like Texas Tech did this year.

Gray shirting is a bunch of BS, its just a fancy name for - I screwed up son, I promised 35 players a scholarship and I only have 18 available.

By the time these kids complete their Jr. College commitment its a good chance that Leach and his assistants won't even be at Tech anymore. So as a player coming out of a JUCO program what do you do when that happens - knock on the new Tech coaches door and say coach Leach said that I would have a scholarship when I got through with Jr. College?

Gray shirting may work in a state with very few football players available but there aren 58,000 Varsity players each season playing football in Texas. There is too much talent on the table coming out of HS during recruiting season each year in Texas.

Dontay, I hope you have a great career at Navarro and have a lot more choices than just Tech available to you when your complete obligations at Navarro. I'm just not in favor of seeing major universities getting in the habit of Gray shirting.

it was known Tech only had 28 to offer.

Some of their recruits this year were very high risk grades wise.

They gotta know it going in, otherwise you got what you deserved anyway.

Leach has made inroads with Texas coaches after being perceived as an outsider. Tech has never consistently drawn from the Houston area and had over 12 signees from the area. they have signed recruits from the "power" schools such as SLC, Dallas Carter and the West Texas schools in the past, and now they're getting kids from Lufkin, The Woodlands, Westfield, and Klein and other area schools.

I'd say his stock is going up with high school coaches, judging from the results

Kids want to win, that is why Tech is improving their recruiting classes.

Wait and see how much his stock is worth in two years from now when 95% of these JUCO gray shirts never put on a Tech Uniform.

These kids had 4 year opportunities at several other universities in the D1-AA & D2 brackets that do not have as tough of academic standards as the D1 schools in the Big 12. They passed on these opportunities because this guy is blowing smoke up their @$$&SS.

JUCO ball is a hit the ground running type of program the Fallout/Dropout rate among JUCO players is outrageous compared with most Four Year programs.
JUCO is the most competitive level of football for players because its a live or die situation - JUCO players don't get two or three years to get stronger & faster - they are expected to start in the lineup when they begin their first practice. Most JUCO colleges in Texas have near 100 walk-on players during the first 30 days of workouts and many times those walk-ons are talented enough to take a scholarship players starting position. Players are risking two additional years of paid for college education & Degree, on things like injury, coaches being fired, poor performance in Jr. college on & off the field.

If you don't make the starting lineup in JUCO do you really think that TECH is going to hold up their end of the deal. What if the kid gets hurt early on and spends the next two seasons rehabing is Tech going to keep up their end of the deal?

Even though scholarship agreements/contracts are for only one year at a time most 4 year institutions are honorable & will continue to renew a kids scholarship no matter if they are injured or turn out to be a dud as a player for all four years. About the only time a 4 year school yanks your scholarship is if you get arrested or Flunk out.

Gray Shirting is a suckers bet in my opinion, take the SFA / Sam Houston / Tarelton/ A&M Commerce / A&M Kingsville / Northwestern State / McNeese type offers, as far as education first then football goes they are a sure thing.

so you are blaming Tech for his grades... Aggy Logic lives

recruiting isn't a love fest, I can't deny that. Schools and PLAYERS cut ties as quickly as they are made. To say that Tech is any less interested in the futures of these kids isn't a sound argument. Do you invest in stocks that you think are going to decrease in value? If the kids can't get in now because of grades and get hurt in JUCO, well, I guess they should have made their grades in HS. You gotta be a freaking rock not to pass high school anyway, it's a joke!

I reiterate, Leach IS making inroads to Texas HS that are further from Lubbock, especially in the past 2 years. You have speculation, I have evidence. Not saying I am right, but...

First off - Not an Aggie - lived here my whole life great town but there are more Aggies here from the Woodlands than from ACM. Most locals prefer not to leave HS and go two blocks down the street to the big school. I think your getting your feelings hurt probably because your a TT supporter or grad. My point is Gray Shirting is a bad deal for 95% of the kids that bought into the lie. It doesn't matter if its Tex Tech or Texas you don't pass up a 4 year offer from a lower level school and enroll at a Texas JUCO because some Big 12 coach made you a promise - Big 12 is all business and if things don't go perfect for these kids while at the JUCO level, Tech and anyone else Gray-Shirting will drop these kids like a bad habit. Most of the kids that Tech over promised and under delivered will be begging for an Abilene Christian, Tarrelton State or Angelo State Offer in two years from now. Fewer than 5% of these gray shirted kids will be wearing a Tech Uniform two years from now and Leach along with the rest of the Big 12 coaches know this.

my feelings aren't hurt in the least, it's a good discussion

you make some very valid points, but until this post, your tone was as if only Leach was going to be "blacklisted" for treating Texas HS kids badly. I was just illustrating that he has actually made up some ground in Texas HS recruiting. We used to get about 4-5 JUCO kids a year out of CA his first couple of years, that has subsided greatly.
