I met my sister-in-law's boyfriend last week. I had been warned about him but I thought I would give him a chance. She knows how I feel about politics and this administration and she must have informed him because we sit down to dinner and the first words out of his mouth were "Obama inherited these problems and George W. Bush planned, executed and approved 9/11". It took everything in my power not to go straight for the jugular let me tell you. At first I said "you are kidding right?" and he said he was not. Instead of doing that, I said "this conversation ends right now." And they left. He is Jewish and before the Obama comment, he belittled Christmas and Christians. He is not real popular with the family, needless to say. I know so many Jewish folks that would not stoop to that level. But I digress. All of these people like this need to be called out as does Obama. All that campaign rhetoric and nothing to show for it. Funny thing, last year in NY, most people were just so excited about him and so looking forward to what he would do to change our country. Now the papers up there (Liberal as they get) skewer him every day and if you ask the people about it, they don't shut up about their dislike of him. We are talking about a democratic stronghold here mind you.

Stealing a line from the ESPN MNF Pre-game...."Come On Man"...

It was just a campaign promise. What did you expect? Open, responsive and transparent government? It was strategery... like a Boise State fake punt or two point conversion.

Thats a good example. Obama pulled the fake punt on alot of people. No shame on him I guess, just the ones who didnt see it coming.

Is GITMO closed yet???
That was promise #1...

The worst part of it was that my daughter and her boyfriend had just arrived and I hadn't seen her in over a year. We had all sat down to have a nice dinner (homemade recipes brought over from Italy mind you) and he just started in on me. Everyone just stopped eating. I know it was because my sister-in-law (an Ivy League grad with very liberal leanings) had warned him about my political beliefs so he started before I could say anything. I didn't go for it because I don't even know the guy - who reminded me of someone who possibly got beat up a lot in school. When I wouldn't argue, they left. Oh, and here was the clincher....he made fun of us for watching football. He insinuated that we were all a bunch of hillbillies with no intelligence at all. You KNOW I was holding myself in check over that one! LOL

He's a d**chebag. On Christmas Day, his comment to the family was "without us, you wouldn't have Christmas". Then he told them it was a pagan holiday. My brother-in-law said he and my daughter's boyfriend were ready to find something to seriously maim him with. They had some nice choice words for him - wish I had seen it. He is a nasty creature. Personally, I hope to never see the guy again - I won't be going to the wedding if there is one.

Well, we started the TV up early and it was on football all day long and all weekend pretty much. I had been told this guy saw himself as an expert in all things - he heard me talking about plays and calling out penalties and he was pretty quiet. Then the announcer in one game says "The coach must have really had a talk with the team after that half". This jerk goes "Yeah, he goes 'see that line, you have to cross it'". Then he and my sister-in-law started whispering and giggling. Ivy League or not, she is socially inept. Oh and he has an extremely thick NY accent to go with his lisp.

You mess with my football, you better watch out!!!

Well, it did in a roundabout way. If you read it, I basically said that Obama and all of his followers need to be called out. When one makes the comment that Bush set up 9/11, they need to be called out. When Obama makes the comment that C-Span will be involved, he needs to be called out. It's all the same. I was using the "story" as you call it, to make a point. Until all these fools are called out, there are other fools who believe everything they say.

And the "chick" answering the question was answering it just as she believed and as many millions believe. I didn't completely agree with her answer but the idiot asked it so she answered it in her honest view.

Many millions believe the following? We are worse off than I thought.

"Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children."

No, I didn't. I did tell him that I disagreed with him and that the conversation was over. I also told him that the conspiracy theory of Bush having planned and approved 9/11 was the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. But it was my birthday and it was a nice family meal that we don't get very often with my husband's parents and I was mature enough to not let my emotions and anger get in the way of his and my sister-in-laws militant ignorance. He was called out on Christmas by my brother-in-law who looks suspiciously like Tony Soprano. Thing is, there is mafia in the family and you would think this guy would take that into consideration before opening his ignorant mouth. I know it used to scare the crap out of me when I first arrived on the scene!!

And in response to your other post, I actually did keep my mouth shut for the most part. I really could have made it a miserable day for all involved but I was the mature one - no lie.

Yeah, restraint/class is great but isn't this where someone responds like a hillbilly, mans up and lays a spinning toe hold on his butt? He had intentions before he entered your house. Reward him. As it is, he made a point, he thinks he won.

I'll talk to almost anyone.....once. I've never got into a cab any place out side of Texas that the driver didn't ask if I/We were from Texas. He actually started the conversation by asking us what we thought about Ann Richards.

In truth, if you are in a city that you don't know real well a cabby can be of great help.

I don't think I've ever gotten into a conversation with a cab driver.

I used to have to take them all the time in New York, traveling to/from the airport. Some very interesting stories. I thought at one time it might be cool to write a book about all the stories I had heard (after interviewing others as well).

Stories about how cheap/drunk/stupid/nice different celebrities were in the cab, some other unusual stories. A lot of these guys are real characters/hams. The Indian/Sikh drivers are entertaining as well. Most of the cab drivers really really KNOW the city. Get the right one and you can find some unusual places.

LOL

What!?

That's it!...I would have kicked his sorry @$$ to the curb myself...

You can make fun of my religion, my politics, my thoughts on the economy...and my wife's cooking...but I'll be damn if you mock my football. :D

Is it too late to put a hit on him?...then your family can just fuhghetabout him...

Exactly. I think most of the stuff people say about debating politics with people they just met is made up.

Do you hear a lot of those stories? On this board or other places?

I can't think of a single time in my life I have gotten into an argument about politics with someone I just met. That's what the internet is for. Moar IRL skilz plz.

How about a discussion about politics with someone you just met?
