Oh, okay, i found it in the DaveCambells magazine....it says that he's 6'1 178 4.6....he'll probably get bigger and faster at SLC as he matures
blueraiders11
02-12-2006, 01:50 PM
Correct about 6'1'', ~180. 4.6 is about right but I'd imagine to get faster by this fall. Will run over the middle, against Coppell I believe he got a huge gash on his neck that bled the rest of the game after catching a touchdown pass on an in route between the safeties.

I would tend to agree... That wasn't 4.4 speed. Jacobson, Renfro, and Fentriss don't get caught from behind like that.
Can2Mom, don't get mad at me if you read this.. He's a playmaker.. *VERY* glad to see him here. Just not the same speed as the 3 listed above. He looks to have good size, though, and good moves.

p.s. He's light years faster than James... :)

Simply put, his mother is a real estate agent in the Southlake area. She wanted to move closer to her work. So she did. I believe she lives in the little section of Grapevine that is actually in CISD.

Highlight videos are pretty good, but he'll have to show up more than that to keep up with Southlake's receivers. One thing I liked is that he likes to catch in the middle. I thought the highlight video made the quarterback look excellent as well.

the video isn't working for me, but did it show the short slant route that he caught and ran about 75 yards for a touchdown vs. trinity but unforutnately it was called back because one of our lineman threw a punch at someone during his YAC? that was something to see as well
by the way whoever asked about our QB's future he is going to northwestern on a scholarship. his numbers weren't that impressive but you have to remember:
1. He had known the offense for about 3 months
2. We had had a wishbone rare-passing offense for the 5 years prior, not a lot of passing experience
3. Played on an injured ankle in our last 5 games, sat out against 2nd half of Irving, last 3 quarters of SGP, whole game vs. Trinity and a quarter against Coppell
4. Played one of the toughest schedules in the state
5. Many times when he would throw an interception or bad pass it was our reciever's fault for running the route poorly and not Joe's
I think he earned his scholarship to its fullest extent because he was much better than his numbers imply and did a good job given the circumstances

Do transfer students not have to sit out a year? I thought you had to unless you were a senior after the transfer. This sould allow for recruiting at the HS level!!

Agree. By the end of the video I was wondering more about what's in the QB's future?
I think the quarterback in the Trinity game was Sophomore Tate Holbert...Joe had a ankle injury that game and it was Holbert's first start. He will be working for the starting spot this spring.

All the clips on the Cantu highlight tape are with QB Joe Mauro. The play from the Trinity game was not on the BC highlights --
What about the sophomore that had the shoulder injury for Bell last season, is he recovered and in the qb picture for Bell this off season?

I think he is playing baseball right now I don't know what his football status is. It seems that Tate Holbert and Sam Baker have been playing that position in the 7 on 7 games so far. Both have looked pretty good I would give the edge to Holbert.
blueraiders11
02-14-2006, 03:40 PM
I believe you are referring to Brad Bartsch. He is a good athlete and a talented baseball player. He has the best arm out of the 3 possible QBs for next season. But if Bartsch doesn't start at QB he will probably play another position on the Varsity because he is talented. It would not surprise me to see him play JV QB though, due to his missed season and to get more comfortable with the offense.
The other 2 QBs competing for the starting spot are Sam Baker(Sr.) and Tate Holbert(Jr.). They are about as different as night and day. Sam is more outspoken and energetic and Tate is more calm and quiet. Sam takes more risks and Tate is more conservative. Sam is a bit better runner, especially distance as he is a machine running 400s. There really is no edge and is as even so far and it will come down to this Spring. It's really close right now. With all this being said the right man for the job will be chosen.

Wow, great conversations about LD Bell in February. Who would have thought that. Joe Mauro, last year's Sr QB definitely earned his scholarship to Northwestern......Great for Joe. That will make back to back Div 1 Qb's from LD Bell as Chase Holbrook transferred to New Mexico State and is penciled in as the starter there going into Spring. Joe and Chase were very similar in heighth and size. Good Things will happen for Bell again soon. There are several good talented young players in the program and should adapt to Coach Olivo's system this Spring. If you remember the coaching change happened so late last year, that Spring Ball was cancelled and most of the assistant coaches weren't on campus till Summer. That should show you how much Joe earned his way to Northwestern.( hard work and dedication) The team came together at the end, As I said last year, it was just a shame for those Seniors, but I guess it has to happen to some Senior class when changes are made. did anyone else from last year's team sign letters of intent to play collegiate? Good Luck to Bell and hopefully the results will be better next year.

Yes... I believe Daniel Longo(LB) is going to Kansas, and Tim Lushaj(OL) is going somewhere in New Mexico. Scott Gilchrist(LB) is going to walk on somewhere but he is undecided. DeAndre English(WR) recieved an offer for Louisiana Monroe full ride but turned it down. We had many others recieve offers but didn't sign. That is all I know of. But you are correct about how little time we had to prepare. They always told us we needed to be full steam ahead by the time we played MacArthur, and we were, we were healthy that game and did great. Unfortunatley we had injuries, grade and conduct problems and it all went downhill. I can see things getting better with time.

I guess we should change the name of this thread, or start a new one as we have drifted. But that being said, Joe should be able to compete right away at Northwestern I believe they graduate their QB from last season. Good to hear about the other kids getting an opportunity to continue playing. No offece to anyone that played, but I felt English was the best athlete on the field for Bell over the past two years. Just not utilized to potential. He could have done well at ULM.

English is a good pal of mine. He missed a couple games because of not showing up to practice but I agree he was the best player we had. Teams would cover him pretty well with double/triple coverage. But that also helped Blake Cantu get open and have a great season. He had the choice of going to Trinity or Bell and he chose Bell, Coach Lineweaver still jokes with him and still asks if he wants to change his mind. A loyal Blue Raider. Trinity decided to double cover Blake when we played them leaving DeAndre wide open a lot.. unfortuantely we couldn't get the ball to him each time.

that makes a fairly solid 6 I believe. not as much depth as 2005, but a solid start I'd say.

in regards to the whole qb situation, I believe that tate will probably start over sam baker from what I have seen. Sam may take a little too many risks, and I think Tate is a little better at making decisions, and will obviously have a feel for the Varsity speed after playing against SGP and Trinity.
The Senior QB at Northwestern is Brett Basanez. He is going into the draft, so it should give Joe a chance to compete for a position. Joe might feel better behind a more solid offensive line, I feel like he was very hurried in last years offense, and had trouble checking off because of unfamilarity with the offense.
Blake Cantu is an amazingly talented athlete. I wish all the best to him at Southlake, and I hope that he gets the wide open catches and also pulls in some of those circus catches that he did for us. He should fit very well in the system, and should getting even better coaching as far as the receiver position goes. I think he improved his chances of going on a big scholarship when he's a senior.
The Bell program is not going to be off the ground until probably the year that blake is a senior. They will fair decent...but I dont think they are going to do big things until 07-08. The program is a VAST difference to what we had in place, and a complete change of gears. Thats what made so hard for us as seniors. I am, however, frustrated with the changes. They have gone a little bit too far in the way of changing things, and have even stepped on some of our traditions at Bell. Its very frustrating to see that...we will probably not get our pictures of the senior team put up(last years team was not either), and thats been a tradition ever since the school opened. They have lines of families up there in that hallway. Our Weight Room Records were also taken down...and they will probably never be put back up. There is another tradition that we have where we dont run through the goal posts at our school...its regarded as bad luck...these coaches ignore this as well...
Oh well, I saw Bell, and I had to tell my thoughts.
Bell will go MAYBE 6-4 next year. 7-3 if they get going real well.

62 is Jules Gonzalez. He will be returning next year, however, 70 is a very big guy, but lacks the agression to play at the next level. He would just stand in peoples ways and if you got a fast d-end on him, he would lose every single time. He's going to college on an academic scholarship to trinity university in san antonio i believe... He was much smarter than he was agressive. He ranked like 23 in a class of 560.
