ODESSA, Texas "Friday Night Lights," first a book and then a movie, is now headed to television.

N-B-C has given the go-ahead for a pilot for a T-V version inspired by the book that chronicled the 1988 season of the Odessa Permian High School football team. A movie version of H-G "Buzz" Bissinger's 1990 book came out in 2004, starring Billy Bob Thornton as the coach.

A publicity agent with N-B-C Universal Television Studio says that the pilot is inspired by both the book and the move, but not based on them.

The T-V version will move the focus to present day, instead of the 1988 season. The pilot will be shot in and around Austin.

Bissinger, who is not involved in the T-V series, said he's looking forward to it.

Peter Berg, who directed and co-wrote the movie, will write and serve as executive producer of the T-V series.

Bissinger said he has confidence in Berg, who is his cousin.

Cool, now if they will just get something else to go with this and put it no Saturday night that will be great. Saturday night T.V. has not been good since Walker went away.

I'd rather them do Varsity Blues... you know where the teacher is a stripper, and the whipped cream bikini, and so forth...

That may be a good movie since they are always a dominant force to be reckoned with in 5A.

exactlyyyyy...theyd show highlights of the band and what not aswell..then show d08 being cool and what not
