For the LSWC posters .....

Just heard that Coach Phillips of Odessa High School will be announcing his retirement at lunch today. He told his team that he will move back home to be nearer to his parents. No hint of a replacement at this time and the kids will miss him!

Good Luck Coach!! Best wishes to your family and good health to your mother!!

Best wishes to him and his family. He made the program stronger.

Hopefully Coach King will get the job.

Ya know coriv, he is the best choice! But how often do "they" do the right thing?? It makes me furious, but I hear that there are some personality issues that have already sealed King's fate and he won't be offered the position.

I truly, truly hope these are just rumors and he is given the opportunity!!!

It's funny to me that the school board is having "personality issues" with the OHS coaches.

But I have faith that everything will work out if Gary Gaines is in charge.

Coriv..how do you know the personality conflicts are with the school board? Just wondering if you had heard of anything in particular that has occurred.

Good luck Coach Phillips and best wishes to your mom.

I getting that from the article that was in the OA on Sunday. The editor wrote that the school board had an issue with Phillips because he wouldn't kiss ***. And according to what KattTx posted neither does Coach King.

Coach King's issues may be with other people, I don't know.

Of course these are all rumors and if Coach Phillips does retire it really doesn't matter now.

It is kinda odd, coriv... King is an old school, hard nosed coach from what I can gather and the only game he wants to play is football. He's good for the program, he's good for the kids, but there are some administrators that just aren't on his side (from what I hear). I hope Coach Gaines makes it right and I do think he will do what is best for the kids and to heck with all the politics and games.

This late in the year, I would hope King gets the nod but that's just MHO.

A month or so ago somebody on The Little SWC board mentioned Craten Phillips. He did a good job with the offense last year.

I'd still rather see King or Kent Jackson (If he's interested) get the job, but if they don't I don't think Craten Phillips would be a bad choice.

Just keep in mind, the editor of the Odessa American is a flaming liberal who is fond of conspiracy theories.

I sure hope OHS gets a good coach. I'd like to see the Bronchos just keep getting better & better. The more good teams we have in the dist., the more other teams will try to rise to the level of play. I'd like to see TLSWC be competitive every yr. Right now some yrs. the dist. is competitive & some yrs., not.

Maybe so, but I would have liked to have seen what would have happened at that school board meeting.

And I also wonder who gave him that rumor.

I guess we'll never know.

My guess is he heard of Phillips' plan to retire, read more into the story than was really there, then printed his story.

Glad to see some familular faces. wait I cant see any of you. oh well......... :p :p I heard he was gonna go anyway but the actions of the other board members kinda sealed the deal. And I want to say Im proud of Gains,  I hear he really stuck up for Phillips!!!!!!!! Imagine that. I know if Gains gets to pick the next coach without interferance from the other board members he will do a great job!!!!!!!!

I honestly can't believe that there are people who think the school board is out to get OHS. I honestly hope you guys get a great coach otherwise we will be hearing how it's the school boards and Permian's fault for the lack of success for the next 10 years. Sounds all too familiar. Now that the playing fields are finally being leveled, look out here comes the whining.

Just like Permian fans have spent the last few years whining about how the Odessa American is biased against them and how the ECISD created the AP program at Bowie and the magnet program at Ector to hurt Permian football and how certain school board members were anti-Permian.

Of course I have a feeling Permian fans won't be complaining about the school board anymore.;)

IF the school board didn't want Phillips, I think that is a reflection of their feelings for the man and not the school. Gaines will rise above the petty East vs West crap and do what he can to find the best coach for OHS.

I am a loooong time OHS devotee. My kid was in the AP prgram at Bowie but made the scandalous decision to attend Permian. So we know from personal experience that the school board in it's former makeup (and several layers of the administration) was shamefully tilted towards OHS. I could care less about the OA, they are a small town two bit publication for the most part.

NO real Odessa football fan wants the pendelum to swing completely back the other way. Most of us would just like to see equal effort being put towards BOTH schools. Man, what in the world would it finally feel like for both of Odessa's teams make a run for the bell?? Hmmmm... sounds like we may never know. Maybe Midland and Abilene can explain it to us.

You're assuming that I give a damn about what you or anybody who thinks like you thinks.
