Heard this from one of the Owl players last night. The Owls open district against new member Rockwall and then close out the schedule with Rowlett, South, and North Garland. Should be a very intersting last three weeks of the regular season!

that should keep 10-5a exciting at the end of the season
throw in some great non-district games with allen, plano east, and desoto, and you have yourselves the makings of a great season for garland

Rockwall should be among the favorites going into the year, along with SG and Garland. NG could be close behind. Rowlett, I think, may drop a notch (they are losing everyone). Same goes for Sachse. Lakeview may be up and coming, and Naaman - well, someone has to be last.
Does anyone have the home and away breakdown?

I was wondering where you got the inspiration for your user name. We used the term "owlbait" back in the 70's, but it seemed to have mostly dissappeared by the 1990's. Thanks.

That is exactly where my name is from, GoOwls. Part of the long Garland tradition.

We chanted OWLBAIT at the other team when they came on the field. That was a LONG time ago.

I'll just say this: it was long ago. There was only one high school.

That would mean you were before 1964, I believe, though I don't remember for certain which year South had their first senior class, but certainly before 1964. I'm guessing 1960, but that would make me Captian Obvious, wouldn't it.:D

I personally think we should let that era and chant go ahead and reamain ancient history. We didn't exactly have a stallar football squad during those years. Let's just let it go..........please.:D

well it was the bellguard sponser's idea. He graduated from Garland back when they used it and thought it would be cool to try and bring it back. They even made signs and everything for it, but the crowd just didnt wanna get into it

Yep. In the five years before I graduated, and the four years after, we went to State Finals four times, won three state Champianships;)

Last time I heard Owlbait being chanted with any gusto was prior to the 1995 game down in Cypress vs. Klien. Needless to say, the result was unsatisfactory, and the chant died out. I remember the gaurds trying to start it up this past year - everyone just kind of stared at them with question marks over their heads...

im a bellgaurd at garland this year and we tried to bring it back even with the signs and all but i dont think that all the students understood what it meant or the tradition of it. i am a senior so i cant do it but maybe if a underclassman would put it on the announcements and explain the traditon of it and what it means more students would may participate and get into it. i thought it was neat and i think if they knew about it they probably would to

Sort of like the LSU fans chanting "Tigerbait, Tigerbait" at opposing teams when they play at home.

Could someone explain the meaning behind "Owlbait." I dont have any knowledge about the chant and the history behind it.

Imagine 80,000 drunk cajuns in Baton Rouge yelling "TIGERBAIT" at a bunch of boys from Mississippi or anywhere else, running on to the field. Thats where OWLBAIT comes from:eek:

I guessed that "Owlbait" probably evolved from the term "Jailbait"??? You know, being a Garland thing and all ;)

That really doesn't make sense..
Point at the opposing team when they take the field and chant "OWLBAIT!" As to say, the other team will get eaten, dominated, roughed up by the Owls.
That was my take on it anyway. I'm not sure on origins.

Its a shame that RumpRider has to chime in on the Owls all of the time. Seems a little jealous to me.

OHHH, Owlbite has a nasty side??? Gonna be some fun!!! Now we know that the term Owlbait evolved from the prison system, "rumprider"??? I'm sure that is a term experienced by Owlbite( childhood or perhaps later on when he served his sentence)??

How you catch me??? You need to have been around a "little" longer to catch Roughie... I've been talking about the Owls prison system for a long, long time...... If that is all you got?? You are not going to be near as much fun as I first thought... You need to learn a few lessons from 2x4 and old

Might want to check the records or some of those you like to brag on. The prison system in Garland seems to have gone "South"

Hey Rough, you having a little fun with the fledgling?
Of course the Owls have the best hooked up bunch of kids with ties to the prison system, cause they are so poor, their mommas and daddys can't "buy" them out of the system like those rich kids at your place. Anyways, all that "charachter" building that the penal system provides make our kids a bit tougher......a bit more ready to win a football game when the going gets tough. The proof is in the results. :D
I'll take our "jailbirds" over your pale mommas boys any day. :D
I heard Sachse made a bobble head collectable of your colors to sell at the school, but come to find out, that it was just a doll that cries "mom-ma", with a jacked up neck, just like it is after the Garland game each year. :D
Later Rough.

I thought we'd already established that Garland High is just a feeder school for the TDC. You like to talk feeder schools don't you Rough? :D
BTW, what does "penial" spell anyway? We didn't get that word taught to us at TDC North (better known as Garland High). :D :D
