I’d like to suggest a new Forum be created. This would be for discussions on high school recruiting. The purpose of this forum is to help those parents whose sons want to play college football.

If this is not the proper place or the correct method for suggesting a new forum, please let me know and I will cease. If this is not something this site considers as beneficial to the site, let me know that as well.

The idea is for parents who want to know more about the college recruiting process to ask their questions and for other posters to offer their suggestions and opinions based on their experiences or knowledge. I imagine there are many posters whose sons have already gone through the process of being recruited to play college ball and maybe some posters themselves who are currently in college playing football. They could provide invaluable information to those parents whose sons have just started their high school football careers and would like to continue playing in college.

This idea of experienced posters helping others is not mine. I’m copying what the High School Baseball Web does so well for parents of high school baseball players right now. (For those of you with sons playing high school baseball, this is a great site – www.hsbaseballweb.com.)

My oldest son is a senior this year. His HS football days are over. For the past year, we’ve been stumbling through the recruiting process. I would expect others have done the same the past year. And, yet more will stumble through this year and for years to come. This forum would be a place for them to ask about the process so they are a little better prepared.

Here’s a few questions I think others could help with (and would be the types of items discussed in this forum):

How do you know which colleges are really interested in my sophomore when he gets so many form letters from colleges?
What should be on a Junior tape? When should it be sent to colleges? Should I send it or have my high school send it for me?
Which summer camps should I attend? Should I attend only college camps or are the Nike/Next Level Athlete beneficial?
What should I do if I did not play my junior year – in regards to getting in front of college coaches?
What does a National Letter of Intent look like?
What should be on my Senior tape? When should that be sent out?
Is going the JUCO route beneficial if I eventually want to get to a D1 school?
I’ve committed to a school, but the coach has just resigned. What should I do?

I realize the posters here cannot make the decisions for parents who are or will be going through the recruiting process. But, there are posters who can probably offer advice and opinions or suggest other resources to help parents maximize their chances for their son to get a college scholarship. And, also help those parents find the best fit for their sons.

This sounds like a great idea...kind of a community service also.

Could ultimately be like a clearing house for college recruiters to get info of up and coming players that could be missed through normal recruiting channels.

I think it's a great idea... You're right, there are a lot of parents on here that have been down the recruiting journey and wouldn't mind sharing their knowledge.

Great idea.

I say however we just turn it into a Recruiting Forum...Updates on who has committed, Top 10's at each position, Recruiting FAQ, and so on.

I think it would be a great asset to parents since many times they are the ones who are navigating those waters without benefit of a coach helping.

I spent hours and hours and hours researching and reading everything I could get my eyes on and still found the whole process a lot to deal with.

It would have been great to have a place to talk to more than one or two people who had gone through it before.

Maybe a FAQ thread would be good, you know mostly informative. It would be nice to hear from a college recruiter on this, maybe the could shed some light on how to know where the best options are for a player
eg
DI(bowl)(playoff)
DII
DIII
JC

I have a buddy I work with that just went through the process with his daughter. If it's your first time through it, it can be overwhelming. The first step you have to take is register with the NCAA clearinghouse and can do that online at their website.

But it's the little nuance's and flat out not knowing the inside game of recruiting that's frustrating. Any tips or suggestions posted to a FAQ on this site would help folks at least understand the basic steps and first few steps to take in the process.

One other thing the HS Baseball Web did was to create a timeline for HS baseball players. That is how I knew to register my son with the NCAA Clearinghouse. The timeline showed the steps for each year of HS - like when to register with the clearinghouse and when to take ACT/SAT tests.

A FAQ would be helpful, but I don't think it can replace the interaction of posters trying to understand from other's experiences on how to navigate the process.

My thoughts for this forum are more along the lines of a community service as cougmantx suggested. This would be a place for parents to go to get advice. Many have already gone through the recruiting process and have some “lessons learned” they could pass along to those just starting the process. Probably few on here are recruiting experts, but collectively we have a lot of recruiting expertise.

I would not suggest this forum be use to tout individual players or be used by folks to recruit players. As others have said, there are already services that measure and evaluate players.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is not my idea. I’ve followed the Baseball High School Web page for years. Their recruiting section is a wealth of knowledge for those parents who think their high school sons can play at the next level. I would love to something similar for parents of high school football players.

I completely agree... As much as we all kid each other on here, when someone needs assistance, most folks go out of their way to help. I think that would be the case with this forum as well.

True I beleive that the people on this board will do just about anything to help others on this board, but I think a FAQ and or a timeline will also be very important.

Even though many people mean well, not Everyone knows what they are talking about. Its almost like 3 veiwpoints need to be represented 1. the recruiters veiw 2. the parent who has gone through this before 3. the student.

I think some current/recent College atheletes may have a wealth of knowledge on the process.

Many small things get left out. Most notably many I dont think look at the offenseive and defensive strategies of the high schools they go to vs the colleges. Things like that can make a huge difference.
