We still miss you terribly John Winston Lennon. I always wonder what might have been had he not been killed so senselessly by the devil himself, Chapman.

He probably would have kept making crappy Yoko music and faded into obscurity. He was greatness though.

Probably true. He was so bitter about being a Pop Icon in the 60's but he was one of the best at it ever.
If there is a silver lining in any tragedy Chapman saved us from watching 70 year old Beatles singing 'She Loves You' in Vegas.
Please Rolling Stones.....QUIT!!!!!

Bye Bye............
Of course, that could be a movie musical as well.

I was watching MNF. I remember the next morning also, feeling somewhat numb, and not really understanding why. Sure, I grew up listening to the Beatles (Sgt Pepper and Rubber Soul Mainly), but John Lennon was some old guy that had married a nut, lived in the North East, and had some passing success after the Beatles. Why was that supposed to have an impact on me? The fact that my Father also expressed an interest was surprising to me.

Actually, it's a Don McLean song that contains the lyrics, 'the day the music died' :D
I'm sure we've all sung along to it at some point in our lives.

Don Mclean
Interesting you should mention your Dad because I remember my own Dad who's a classical pianist telling me shortly before JL died (might have been shortly after) that he happened to listen to a rendition of The Beatles Symphony on Classical radio and how surprised he was at how great a piece of music it was. Made a similar comment when he heard a jazz version of 'Fool on the Hill' on the car radio and then found out at the end of the song that it was written by JL and PM. Enjoy. It's better than the original.

Drove my Chevy to the Levy, but the levy was dry.
And KTCarl is correct. The song sung by Don Mclean is about Buddy Holly, from what I recall.

Not 100% sure but I thought Don McLean wanted people to think it was some deep lyrics about something or someone, but in actual fact was about nothing at all. He was basically messing with everybody.
Beatles did the same thing with 'I am the Walrus'
oh and...
And Good Ole Boys were drinking whiskey and rye....
AMEN, to that!

Cleveland and somebody, wasn't it?
BuZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Oh, no, I'm sorry, that answer is incorrect!
Actually, I looked it up, and it was New England and Miami.

I was.
I heard the back side of Abbey Road the other day while driving - great stuff. The Beattles were something else. Yoko, ehhh, not so much... I still can't figure that one out.

Great song and great talent. My husband's Grandfather was a member of the Lions Club in Lubbock when Buddy Holly was started out. During their monthly luncheons they would have entertainment. They asked Buddy Holly to perform. He escorted him out the door a few minutes after he started playing. Buddy Holly was to wild for those men.

Yeah, I thought so...
I remember Technical Communications class in College. It was given to us as an example of poor listening skills and overly scripting Q and A's.. McLean apparently did an interview where he clearly tells Australian TV personality from the 70's, Sue Smith that the worst part of doing every interview is the predictability of always being asked what the meaning is behind American Pie because it really does not mean crap. Sue Smith's next question was .. well you probably know the rest...

Good Ole Waylon Jennings was playing bass for Holly on that tour and lost the coin flip on who got to take the plane or bus. Holly poked fun at Waylon for having to ride on the cold bus and Waylon retorted, "I hope the plane crashes." He said it's been hard living with that comment.
