UIL group rates are going fast. Most hotels allow a 48 hour cancellation policy so you may want to go ahead and secure your rooms now with the option of canceling or transferring them on to fellow posters once the final teams are determined.
http://www.uil.utexas.edu/athletics/football/pdf/football-hotels.pdf
As of this morning the Grand Hyatt on the walk still had rooms available at the group rate of $89/night. The online system recognizes the group code (several other hotels didn’t) so reservations can be made in a snap. Whichever hotel you book, just ensure you are familiar with the cancellation policy.
Good luck to your respective teams for the remainder of the season!

Got my room and tickets. Not even going to watch a certain team, just going for the football. First time at a Texas State FB Final...wish ALL of them were in the same city on the same weekend.

Question...
Do participating schools sell tickets to the game or are the only available via the net and at the gate?

Especially for Katy fans.;)
I have gone the last 3 years, and have reserved my room for this year as well. It is a chance to watch good football (most of the time). The cost of a room for two nights and tickets is just about the same as a decent ticket at the Big 12 Championship game. ;)
Where is the game going to be played at this year?

If Abilene is in the game, your school will have tickets.
And the tickets from the schools (the 4 teams in the 2 games) will be for the section on the first level between the 30 yd line and 30 yd line. (I think this is right)
The first game fans get the 30 yd and 30 yd section - then have to move out to allow 2nd game fans to get seats in same section.
The remainder of the seating would be either reserved or general admission where seating is outside of above mentioned.

From E. Market St. it's about half a mile. Never walked it before but I would bet sidewalks and freeway crossings are adequate for such. If so, would be much better to walk than drive.

San Antonio thrives on tourists. There's more hotels in the San Antonio area than you can shake a stick at. I wouldn't waste the extra money on staying in a downtown hotel myself. The Alamodome is isolated on the other side of I-37 from downtown, and it's parking area isn't that big (about 2,800 parking spaces). It'll cost you $10 to park, and it's a nightmare getting out of when a game is over. You're better off staying in a hotel away from the Riverwalk area, and either take VIA Park and Ride, or find a parking area away from the Dome. There's a Holiday Inn and Residence Inn on the other side of downtown by Market Square that's cheaper, and it keeps you in the downtown area. There's also a La Quinta right across the street from the Marriott Riverwalk that is a lot cheaper than the Hyatt, and just as close. The Hyatt and Riverwalk are the most common garages to park in. It's about a 1/4 mile walk to the Dome from those locations.
As far as tickets and seating - The Alamodome is capable of holding up to 72,000 fans, It's a three-tiered stadium. Never attended a high school State Championship, but I would be amazed if you had to worry about getting tickets, especially since all the San Antonio teams are out of the running.

I've attended high school games up to the third round in the Alamodome. I've never seen them sell Reserved seating. It's always been General Admission, first come, first served. May be different for a State Championship game. The common practice for the venue when there's back-to-back games, is your ticket purchase is good for all games for that day. My understanding is there's no 'In and Out', meaning once you enter the Dome, you can't leave after the first game and come back in without purchasing another ticket. When the first game finishes, they announce that anyone who wants to stay for the remaining games must move to the seats outside the 30-yard line so the next teams fans can obtain the better seating between the 30's.

The two state finals games one year were reserved. I believe they got away from that because people didn't care for it.

I've never had any problems what so ever leaving after a game there, and I've been going to them for 5 years or so now. It's not that bad at all.
Those group rates are great. The Hotel Valencia rate is a steal.

I guess you need to define 'not that bad at all'. When Clark played Del Rio there in the 3rd round, I accidentally got into the wrong lane when trying to get into Lot A that runs along I-37 (it's only for buses and individuals who are with the football team, band, or dance teams). They made me go around the entire Dome to get back around to the right lane. The Austin Westlake/Harlingen game was still going on, and it took me over 20 minutes just to get back around the Dome. And this was before a majority of the people were leaving, and the Clark/Del Rio fans were arriving. Not sure what games you went to, but if they had more than 15,000 in attendance, you better expect at least 30 minutes to get in or out of the parking at the Alamodome. I live in San Antonio, and have been going to events there since it first opened (I was a season ticket holder for the Spurs). I avoid parking directly at the Dome if I have any other alternatives. The last two games I went to there, I parked in some private lots over on Commerce Street. It's right next to Sunset Station, and far away from the Dome that you don't get inviolved with the traffic in that area.

Lucky for me I live in downtown so it won't be a big problem.

Rudedog a question as you'er local maybe you can help.. I got the UIL rate at the Holiday Inn Express Riverside /Area on 1309 East Commerce. The reviews on the hotel are fine--the only negative comments were that the hotel is in a sort of a scary neighborhood and would be worried about walking around after dark..It shows the hotel about 2 blocks from the dome. any thoughts.....

In 2007, our group stayed at a riverwalk hotel and the entire hotel was full of Katy Tiger Fans. It was a blast. We turned the riverwalk red that weekend.
We never moved our cars out of the parking lot/garage.
We walked or took the trolly everywhere we went and had no problems.
But if you take the trolly - leave plenty of time to do so.
When we left the game, we walked all the way back to our hotel (decided we didn't want to ride trolly because of numerous stops between) and there were droves of people doing the same. All cheering and hooping it up.
The walk from the Alamodome to the riverwalk was no problem.

River walk hotels is the best way to go. We stay there for the Alamo Bowl and walked everywhere. Very easy to do.
