How about Zach Velliquette - leading the state in interceptions and not even nominated for Defensive Player of the Year?

http://www.athletesconnection.com/content/view/5373/10086/
"Another notable from today’s game is that Zach Velliquette now leads the state in interceptions with 10 for 189 yards."

It amazes me that he is really not getting a lot of looks at the next level. Size has not stopped a lot of great kids before him.

Some school will steal this kid at the next level. All HEART!

Don't know how you leave off Katy DB Sam Holl, Cinco Ranch DB Zach Velliquette, and Cy Woods DB Bryce Callahan...add in Katy LB Jonathon Fisher too, who is having a big year.

There's quite a few players that are deserving. However, I guarantee all three of these guys have the numbers and have had a much greater impact on their teams than a majority, if not all, of those on the defensive list. You're talking about 4 All-Staters , some 1st team, when it's all said and done. I'd say Callahan is the biggest omission from this list.

This has followed a pattern all year. Very little TV coverage or mention by local stations. I was crediting this to all the Saturday games we have played but even the Sunday version seems to totally over look Katy. I told my wife that Coach J must have given them an ear full or something because it certainly appears someone is pissed off.

It's okay, Sam has a verbal commit but the fact LT, Fisher and Atwood are not on that list is amazing!

Joseph's not on the list because Katy was expected to have one of their best teams ever with all those kids back and plus a pretty good move in from Humble. This site and I imagine most other places had them ranked at 1 at the start of the year. They have them ranked at about 7 or 8 right now I think.

Both Clayton and Schmid graduated a bunch of kids and were not expected to do as well as they did. Cinco was a very makeable FG and an extra pt away from repeating as District champs. TWHS went 12-1 including wins over Katy and Lufkin. Nobody expected that. I would imagine everybody else on that list finished the regular season better than expected.

As far as defensive players, I'm surprised Bouthilet did not make the list. Pretty sure he's a senior. Where's Chad Lindsey?

Congrats to all for a great year. Coach Drew Svoboda - Klein Collins - certainly should be right there but what is the deal with all the receivers? Hard to leave out JaMicheal Rozier on any top ten list? Thought he was one of the leading 5A RB's in the Houston area!

Many arguments I am sure. The ones listed are all deserving I am sure.

Jordan Leslie from tomball led all receivers in greater Houston last year and this year. He is not on the list and I don't know why.

He did not lead this year. I only looked at Districts 13,14,15 5A and he was like 5th just from that group.

Jordon Leslie is a good kid. He is also a great Basketball player. I would say he is up there in the top of 13-5A in Basketball...

He is not a great Wide Receiver. He has good hands and can make plays but he is questionable in terms of his speed. Why do you think his offer count is around 4 to 6 depending on who you ask? He has good size and is Athletic that is why he has the offers he has. You can't teach size...

This year Tomball's football team did worse than last year. Another stat that hurts : he was 6 for 20 yards his last game in High School.

Sorry, but you asked..

You need to look again, he le all Houston receivers this year with 61 catches. His offers don't have anything to do with wheather or not he was a great wide receiver or not. Ask the coaches in the district who was the best receiver.

Leslie had 61 Catches for 798 yards and 9 TD's and WAS the WR for Tomball, the second leading WR had 19 catches

DeChe Milburn from Clear Springs has 74 catches for 1243 yards and 15 TD while sharing catches with James Cunningham(55 catches) Dimiti Donald(43 catches)

Isaiah Battle from Cy-Woods has 62 Catches for 1077 yards and 17 TD

He had the most CATCHES in the District, but CJ Jones from Westfield almost had the same Yardage numbers with about 30 fewer catches and 1 more TD.

Lesllie is a Good WR....taking nothing away from him though.

Battle regular season 51-931 yds 8 TD

Looking at those who were actually nominated, my votes, being a Mustang homer aside, are:

Offense - Walker (when your sheer force of will results in victories, you get the nod)
Defense - Lewis (didn't see him play, but everyone I've met has said he changes gameplans, and that's huge when you're playing defense)
Coach - Svoboda (turned around a perennial loser into a team that started the season 11-0... though I wouldn't argue against the coaches at Clear Springs or Pearland Dawson getting it with what they've done in starting programs)

I'm saying he was thrown to more because he was the ONLY WR Tomball had....the next leading WR had like 19 catches for 189 yards...the other guys put up better/similiar numbers while sharing catches.

Look Jordan Leslie is a Good receiver... Part of being a Great receiver is Yards After the Catch...having the most catches in a run Heavy District like 13-5A is good but not great.

I will give you an example. Battle # 6 from Cy Woods is a Great receiver and deserves to be on everyones list. He has Great Hands, Great Size, Great Speed, Great Athleticism. He makes people miss after the catch and then outruns them...

The list for Offensive player of the year in the Greater Houston area should have included others and maybe Leslie should be on the nominee list....does he deserve the Award for Offensive player of the year...IMHO...no...

I know that the Touchdown Club of Houston can only choose a certain number of players to nominate but I think they should have included Zach Velliquette (Cinco Ranch) as a defensive player of the year. Zach leads the area and I belive the state with 11 interceptions on the year. A couple of these interceptions and a fuble recovery have been in the post season and have been game changing turnovers.

I agree. I can't understand why he isn't on the list. Maybe the TD Club did not want to nominate two players from the same team??? I do remember that Westside had their QB and their RB nominated a couple of years back. Their RB won Offensive Player of the year. Callahan should be on this list. The LB, #42 from Langham should be considered also. Both of these players were game changers.

Well i do agree with that...#42 and Callahan both were leaders on their teams'defenses. I forget how many picks Callahan had..but he changes defensive game plans ..makes it hard to throw down the field. For one thing, Langham would have loved to have Keeton fom Creek leading our offense also..I thought he was the best QB we played in the district..and we played against some very good ones.

As Good as LT (katy) has been at his time at Katy, i still wouldn't pick him up if im a Divison 1 college.

Why? His size...and im not talking about his height, that wouldn't deter me. It's his weight. At this level you can get away with being 165 and 5'6...In college, if you are 5'6 you better have some of the strongest damn legs in the country as well as some beef on you.

Jaquizz is a perfect example of a back with weight and speed.

LT is a great football player, and from what i heard a great kid. If he can gain some weight without having to sacrafice a lot of speed...then id pick him up.

But right now...5'6 155-165 just isn't going to cut it....no matter how good he is.

I can see him going to a Div II program however...and their are plenty of really good ones.
