From what I understand they run a lot of double wing with some different variations. They lost to LB Poly last year by a TD I believe.

As a follower of the Little Southwest Conference, Midland Lee is the toughest team for me to gauge. They could be great, but then they could be just so-so. I dont think they will be bad just because I dont think Quiz (head coach Randy Quisenberry) knows how to coach a team to a bad season.
Lee does return some very good individual talent in RB Trent Hines (6'3 200), WR Terrance McCoy (6'3 190), OL Ryan Brown (6'2 255), DT Leslie Ray (6'2 260) and LB Evan Frosch (6'4 210) as well as a very good kicker in Aaron Esikhati. However, I dont know what they will look like as a team.
QB is a big question mark. Terrance McCoy's brother Jamie was the QB last year. The passing game wasnt great, but they could run the ball with the best teams in the state. Some thought that Terrance would just switch over to QB like his brother, but everything I have heard out of Midland says this wont happen. Quiz likes to spread the field and he likes to throw the ball... a lot. Last years team didnt have a great passing game mainly because they were weak in the WR department. If McCoy returns at WR, that will help.
Defense may be a problem... especialy if Clovis East runs the ball a lot. Quiz' defenses have never been great, but they really struggle against the run. The past couple of years Quiz coached teams have had horrible outings against running teams. Lee has a monster of a defensive lineman in Leslie Ray as well as a pretty good LB in Frosch. Lee's defense did improve over the course of last season, but it was only average at best. I will be very interested to see if the defense improves this season.
Lee has a lot of questions this year, but none bigger than QB in my opinion. The QB is such a key position on Quiz teams and Lee will need to find a good one. As I understand it, Lee will participate in 7 on 7 so that along with Spring ball should give us a good idea as to what Quiz is going to do.

Good analysis by JTK. I agree w/ it, but I think Lee will be better this yr. than last. It will be the new coach's 2nd yr. Lee improved dramatically as the '04 season went along. Lee gave Ab. Hi all they could handle in Ab. last yr. during the last game of the dist. & really should have won the game barring a fumble inside the ten on a td drive very late in the game (& Ab. Hi had a great team, IMO). Most of us know little about Clovis, but this Lee team is going to be pretty tough (as they usually are); I think Lee will win (as JTK says on their strength of running the ball so well--I still think Lee had some of the best rb's I saw last yr.; they looked phenominal late in the season against Ab. Hi, and most of that team is back this yr.).
I wouldn't bet against Lee on this one; there may be some bias here, but Lee's in our neighborhood, and I know they're usually a tough opponent, no matter who's coaching them. I just think Coach Quizenberry will be even better in his 2nd yr. @ Midland Lee & so will the Rebels.

I too wouldnt bet against Lee on this based on nothing but coaching. If this were the first game of the year for Lee... I would be very concerned, but I believe it will be Lee's 5th game so Quiz will have had plenty of time to work out any kinks and he'll probably have that offense running like a well oiled machine.
My concern on offense will be the effectiveness of Hines if he is the sole running threat. When Hines first showed up on varsity as a soph., Lee ran a power I offense with a FB and a lot of TE... that will help any RB. Last year they switched to a one back, shotgun offense, but since the QB was such a threat to run, defenses had two monsters coming out of that backfield. That's one of the reasons the option worked so well for them. However, I wonder how effective Trent will be if Lee uses more of a "pocket" QB like Quiz usually has. With Trent as the lone running threat coming out of that backfield, defenses will be able to key on him a little more and without those extra blockers in front of him a lot more will be asked of Trent. It will be interesting to see how that works out.

Where were you last year when SLC played Denton Ryan on ESPN 2 and Odessa Permian played Midland Lee on Fox Sports SW on a cool, crisp Thursday night in October?? In Texas, if you want to televise a high school game, it cannot be played on Friday or Saturday due to UIL rules.

A little about the Clovis Schools. The nice thing about Clovis is that it has not fallen into that being fair to everybody thing like in the bay aera, were everybody gets to play! We have no Stag, Pal, Pop Warner, our anyother football like that. The kids in all sports have real coachs 1st. to 12, sorry Billys dads not coaching football here! They start full pad football in the 4 grade. There are six feeder schools supplying one Jr. High and one Jr. high per High school! execpt for the start up of a team all funds are made by the booster clubs. And that keeps the will to win going! Clovis like Texas & Ohio is a great place to bring up kids! The schools are all at about 2200 kids and they travel well. When CE started 6 years ago they had no upper class and with only sophmores they played 5 varcity teams around Ca. and won a few! Now I grew up in the Bay Area, San Jose. and its night and Day between the 2 areas! Sorry about the long post and the speeling!
