I'll take a cut at this:
1. SCL
2. Trinity
3. Abilene
4. SGP
5. IMAC
6. Midland
7. Summit
8. Duncanville
9. Amarillo
10. Desoto
11. North Crowley
12. Midland Lee
13. Hebron
14. Grapevine
15. Arlington
(p.s. - and I really ought to include an El Paso school, but I have no idea who will be good from out there this year).

I expect Hebron to be a force right away with the talent and coaching they have.
Obviously, Carroll has to be #1 in R1 until proven otherwise. Trinity has a ton of talent to replace. SGP will be good on offense, but lose some very key players on defense. For the first time in a while, Abilene doesn't return many proven playmakers on offense.

I don't think Abilene High, Midland High or Midland Lee are top 15 material as of yet. All those schools have way too many holes to fill and way too many question marks right now to be called top 15 material.
I would put Hebron in the top 5. With what they return, I expect them to be a serious force right off the bat. Mansfield Summit is also top 15 material... probably top 10.

Hebron and Abilene are the two I struggled with the most in doing this Top 15.
Interestingly enough, this region contains two teams that were 4A state champions that moved up recently - SLC, moving up and dominating - and NC, moving up and, well, making the playoffs, but not getting past the first round.
I figured I'd err on underestimating Hebron, since I think the way SLC moved in and stepped right up is the exception, not the rule.
And Abilene is such a well coached team - I'll give that team the benefit of a doubt until I've seen otherwise.

Rather than the Top 15, here is my 'very early in the year' attempt at the District Champs.
D1. El Paso Franklin
D2. Lubbock Monterey
D3. Abilene
D4. Mansfield Summit
D5. Southlake Carroll
D6. Lewisville Hebron
D7. Euless Triinity
D8. Duncanville
I apolgize for changing the theme of the thread, but I was struggling to identify the Top 15, so I took the easy route.

I hesitated to put Summit higher, since the team will have such a large turnover next year (40 seniors on last year's team). Just a few returners on defense - I believe three returning starters. There could be a half dozen or more sophmores see significant PT on the varsity.

I'd give the nod to Midland right now, although I think they will have a question mark at QB. Barron Batch's little bro Brandon will be effective. I personally think Lee might struggle.

I think my Eagles plug in a new QB and just keep on rollin'.

The QB is the reason I wouln't put AHS in the top 15. I have seen Lackey play several times from practice, to 7 on 7 to games and I have never once been impressed. He's built in a Riley Dodge type mold, but his passing ability leaves a lot to be desired and I haven't seen him as being very explosive running the ball. Lackey has a TON of work to do with pretty much a brand new group of receives if AHS wants to continue playing well.

It will be very hard for any team to duplicate what SLC and SV did, but Hebron does return some sick talent off a state championship team.

they would have been a top 10 team in 5a last year. they seem to have a swagger about them and i expect big things right away.

it is probably a lot like kt in its demographics. it is a suburb like most suburbs. lots of tract houses and some apartments. i like the way the kids play, so i'm guessing i'd like the coaching staff.

Some people were making the same type of comments about Potts when he was a sophmore. I watched the Lackey kid in practice a lot last year. Yes, he has some learning to do, as anyone does when they become the starter in 5-A ball, but do not underestimate his passing. He throws a good ball and I expect he will make several of those forward steps this summer in 7 on 7. He will also return a good offensive line. (3 were second team all district last year).

In no particular order:
Kortney McDow
Jet Ellis
Jaxxon Jordan (Probably mispelled)
Cassius Burks
Troy Tarrant
J.J. James
Ben Wadsworth
Multiple others that I can't think of right now.
And as far as the O-line...Zeller, Carey, and Harvey are all on this site's "Players to Watch" list. Sounds solid to me.

Hebron has three players returning that are two way 1st or 2nd team all-district. I don't see that very often in 5A. Even though they are used to it from 4A, will the coach have to rethink the way he uses them in 5A?

One of the biggest differences in 5A is that very few guys go two ways. You just can't get away with it.

My new favorite AHS reciever "Jet" Ellis. With a name like that this kid better be a speed burner.
