View Full Version : Unity between A&M and Texas

We all do a lot of arguing and rooting against each other, but when it boils down to it A&M vs. Texas is a friendly rivalry. All of those kids played HS football together and were recruited by both schools. In most peoples family you have a division between the Texas grads and the A&M grads, but at the end of the day when adversity comes we all stick together because we are from Texas and thats what Texans do. They rally together. I found this video and it gave me chills. As much as I will be rooting against the horns on thanksgiving this was a very touching video to see. It was the week that the bonfire tragedy occurred and the Texas band put on a very classy showing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rLj3vw5fwI

I've said it many times that it's my experience that all a$m fans I haven't met are the bad ones. By and large the ones I do know are good people. Probably pretty common the other way around as well.

This one is good too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g48S1KvzkE&feature=related Great to know at the end of the day that we're all one big family, even if they are the "big brother" you sometimes pretend to hate. ;)

No name calling on this thread. Go question his sexuality on a different thread. Unity is the title on this one.

LMFP's final 3 college choices were 3) TCU; 2) A&M 1) Texas

She went to Austin, but alot of her friends have siblings at A&M. That's unity.

Finally watched the youtube here. Very nice gesture. I would also add that while I am not the biggest fan of the LHB, they do play very very well.

By and large the A&M fans I've met are decent people and I like them. I often think Aggies are crazy (At least the ones who think all the goofy stuff is OK) and they're known to be delusional, but I've always thought they'd give the shirt off their back to a fellow man.

I wouldn't give .05 for Longhorn fans and that probably won't change. It's really a 3-fold issue with me:

1. It's the university of the most liberal town in Texas and has a reputation to match being the most left institution among the publics.

2. It's the college of choice among the rich elite. It gets back to the snobby people who look down on the "Cow Colleges" which are places like A&M and Tech, but it also gives cause to look down on the rest of the public's. I said it before, but will repeat. When I was in high school, I noticed that almost across the board, the Texas kids in my class were kids I didn't like and that was long before I became as anti-Texas as I am now. I didn't like those kid's attitudes and I know they got them from their parents. There are expceptions and I've known some, but the majority of people I knew in Mt. Pleasant who liked Texas were not liked by me.

3. My final reason is because it's so easy and passe to be a 'horn fan. It's easy to root for the bigtime team with all the money, a large fanbase, and the ever present "Help" when needed in games. Being a 'horn fan is a shallow existence in life. For many, they'd be an OU fan in a heartbeat if Texas started losing. Yeah, I know plenty of people are 'horn fans for life, but it's easy to be a 'horn fan. 'horn fans are frontrunners and want something easy. In many cases, I think 'horn fans are losers and it's been apparent to me for a long time that they have a perverted moral system of "Give me what I want whether it's fair or not." I truly think it's a shame that so many 'horn fans have a "Win at all costs" moral system.

I do not share in the belief that 'horn fans are great people. I think they have some good people who don't fit the mold of what I said above, but far too many who do. Like I've said before, I think it says a lot about a person and who they associate with. If you associate with slime, by rule that almost makes you slime yourself. That's why it kills me that I grew up as a Cowboy fan. I wouldn't give .02 for most Cowboy fans because they're the same kind of group of losers in life that the Longhorns have. At least Dallas has cool colors unlike Texas.

I prefer to kick them out of the family. I will stand firm and say the world is a better place without Longhorns (And some of the other well-known suspects in college sports).

Lonny, you know I take what you say a lot more seriously than a lot of people on here, but I really don't see why a lot of this applies here. This thread is about A&M and UT fans coming together in hard times, and from what I have seen through the media and from what I've heard from other people (I wasn't really aware of stuff concerning college in '99), UT fans have always been very respectful, helping, and empathetic in times of need, and outside of the realm of sports, I've never seen much of a reason to dislike them.

Argue all you want about them getting all the great recruits or getting friendly calls from the refs or them having arrogant fans, but I just don't see the world (even college sports) being better off without them.

Nothing like taking your own personal viewpoint of a few people from 25 years ago and running with it Lonny.

You're dead wrong. I've had nothing but positive experiences in my dealings with other 'Horn parents - many of who are alum - in my several trips over to Austin. In fact - I've been more than pleasantly surprised. From moving in, to parent meetings, to tailgating, to major sorority parent functions - it's all been good times with very down-to-earth people.

You're so far off base - you've made yourself look like a complete idiot.

I've defended you on countless occassions when the dozens of guys here called you Loony. In reality - they're probably accurate - at least from this perspective they are. Your labeling of people is just plain sad, and this instance is no different.

Brilliant analysis.

I'd say I'm surprised, but that would be a lie. Excellent contribution to the topic at hand.

hah...wow...maybe i should save this post by lonny to show my son, years from now, that there are some truly stupid people that shouldnt even be allowed any forms of communication...you have to seriously have some deep personal issues to come out and say some of the crap you say, but is that what its all about, that loony would hide behind the anonymity of the internet to say the things he does? cause if not, pm me lonny, and ill meet you anytime so you can say all this to my face...better yet, let me bring my dad, who raised me to be a good man (despite our Longhorn upbringing, you know), my brother, who despite his learning disability is a successful student and athlete, and my son, who is my pride and joy, and you can say it to all of us...we'll make sure to look at the ground because we'll be blinded by your holiness...

or i could bring a girl i have known since 5th grade, a close friend who let me stay at her parents house during a trip to ep since i couldnt afford a hotel, and when i got sick, took me to the hospital...or her dad, who gave me rides to school when i lived in ep even though he was just coming off overnight shifts...i could go on and on with people who have helped me or have been an inspiration to me who, coincidentally, were longhorns, either by degree or fanhood...

but those people wouldnt show up, lonny...theyre too good to have to explain themselves to a person that is truly f:Censor:ed up in the head, so i guess ill have to tell you myself that, if we had this meeting, it would be short, to the point, and regardless of what happened, and trust me, something would happen, i would walk away knowing that on my worst day im not capable of being half as messed up as you are...

back to the topic at hand, yes, a&m and ut are family....when i was younger, i played defensive end and wanted to go to ut, and my cousin who is the same age as me, played quarterback and loves a&m...we used to get in some FIGHTS over who was better, but at the end of the day, we still had each others backs...
