The unbiased allen vs southlake thread

I want to talk just football about these two teams...why one team will win over the other none of the past or past match ups just what each team brings to the table.

I like Allen because of the X-factor Matt Brown. This kid has figured it out since his sophomore year. He is making great decisions with the football in the air and with his legs.

Carroll does a great job of spreading the ball around to numerous receivers while still having a very nice running game if they can keep a balanced offense, Allen will have problems stopping them.

I would say you are very close...We left the 5 PM game at about 8:45 and they were announcing a 40 minute start for the last game...Haven't heard much about the start or finish of the Keller/Coppell game.

I'm not ashamed of it at all (although I'd rather us win that one, and not let them comeback)...... its the fact that some actual people think that's a legit argument to make fun of us..... Lobo Stadium is a terrifying place for opposing teams, but still an incredible atmosphere


Saw a UT game a few weeks ago (don't remember which game) where late in the fourth quarter, LT's Garrett Gilbert, Allen's Dan Buckner, and SLC's Tre Newton were on the field at the same time! :notworthy

Allen has holes in it's defense. Their bulk is noticeably smaller along their Dline. Their Linebackers are still saavy and their secondary is truely outstanding, I don't know how they matchup against a great vertical attack like Carrolls but they've had some practice against it in district. I think TA will have a huge game both from a matchup perspective and one of neccessity as the strength of the Allen D is it's secondary and linebackers in coverage.

Offensively their receivers took a while to come along after Peticonis and Ngwawachaku graduated, they weren't dropping passes against our early season zone (which was far from spectacular tho, still isn't), like they did in earlier games and Brown was truely sublime. The game seemed so easy for him and it was embarrassing for a program that has prided itself in it's defense. Westerberg is classic for keeping his cards close prior to big games. He showed up with a 4-3 in the playoffs after sticking with a 3-4 in the preseason and it payed huge dividens. Their LB's are still disciplined and darn good footballers but their Dline is the weakness I feel, if we're talking about elite defenses. (they're still pretty good).

It all starts up front and both of these offensive lines will have their way with their defensive counterparts

Forget what some people say. They obviously dont know that Longview is no ordinary 4A team. Thats a team that competed quite well in 5A for a long time. So many people get stuck on the 4A, 3A etc crap. They are ill informed when they do that. Longview would be ranked in the top 15 IMO, if they were 5A.

Westerberg is a very good coach. He was at the hand of those losses as a coordinator and then head coach. He has learned well and has a staff thast makes great adjustments.

I believe the D Line is a place that Carroll can exploit with some shifty yards by Tommy and some gutty yards by Paul. The Carroll line wont break you over or plow you out of the way, but they are a technically sound group and very athletic. I also expect if David needs to run, he can get yards up the middle or some close off tackle runs.

I think our WR's will have some success, I know their DB's are very good, but our guys have some size to them..that may come into play...may not.


I think with the size and skill of the Allen O Line, it's inherent on the 3 very good Carroll LB's to stay clean, so if our D Line can just occupy a man, it will allow those 3 LB's to do their work. They will have to maintain gap control though. Right on. Hold their ground or cause a pile, must keep the Allen Oline from surging in mass to the 2nd level, Key's will be good padlevel and playing low, linebackers must prove me wrong and show they can locate the ball early and avoid traffic. Containment will be huge because Brown is deceptively fast. Plus would be the ability to leave your corners on an island.

3. Allen lives and dies by Brown's ability to count to 3. A couple hits and maybe his timing gets off. This could easily win the game for SLC.

Big Southlake fan here.To be very honest I hoped Allen would go D-1 to avoid this match up in the second round. But in a play-off situation let's just get it on and see who advances. Two class programs, one will rep our region well as they move forward. Honestly I don't know what to expect other than it should be a great Texas High School football game. I remember in 2005 we played a triple overtime game that started way late against Arlington Lamar. Ended around 1:30 AM iirc(was a thursday night too!) Didn't seem to affect the game timing or anything

2. SLC has had a very good defense against the rush this year. If they can contain Mr. Brown and force him to throw the deep ball (like he likes to do), I do not think it is going to go in their favor. A couple bad throws deep and that's the ballgame. Especially against a focused Dragon squad.

3. Allen lives and dies by Brown's ability to count to 3. A couple hits and maybe his timing gets off. This could easily win the game for SLC.

A couple things I would be worried about if I were an Allen fan (during the regular season) and knew I'd have to play SLC in the 2nd round.

1. Allen's defense is not that great. They do not force many turnovers. However, they do generally disguise their coverages well.
