What they don't talk about in that article is the speed that Glenville puts on the field. Last year at the national outdoor track & field championships (I believe in NC), Glenville got 1st and 3rd in the 4x100 relays ('A' and 'B' teams). Nearly all, if not all, of the runners were football players. That's at least 8 seriously fast kids. Scary.
Colerain looks to be making a move to get onto that national top 10 list. I don't know about 2003, but last year they had 5 D1As and they are looking at at least another 5 this year (2 LBs, 2 o-linemen, one RB are virtual locks thusfar) and maybe more.

lufkin and 4a lamarque have had the most div1 recruits in texas in the last 2 years i am almost positive?? i am not talking div1aa or div2 or div3 or naia i am talking legit div1 recruits. lufkin has had 11 in the last 2 years and lamarque has had 11 or 12 in the past 2 years. lufkin has had 20 scholarships total in those 2 years.

when i say div1 recruit i am not talking div1aa like sfa and mcneese st concha. some count 1aa when they div1 recruits but i disagree. if that was the case lufkin has had more then 11 in the last 2 years. div1 and div1aa are 2 completely different leagues competing for different titles.

I hear you.
Colerain had about a dozen kids get scholies last year, but just 5 were D1A. This year it'll be another 5 at least. Glenville looks to have <<stupid number>> of D1As and scholies in general this year.

Irving Mac. had 9 kids this past year commit to D-1A schools. This season it looks like they will have about 6. Their two "LB's" have already committed to Oklahoma St. this year.
Lamarque had 9 kids in 2004 sign D-1A and this year they had 3 if you include FS-Clarence Ward who transfered out in early September for Pensacola, Fla.
This past season kids that started for the 2003 Lamarque 4A Title team as juniors:
RB- Ball - Florida St.
CB- Mangum - Fla St.

i gotta agree with that for the most part, but lets not forget about Midland Lee and Dallas Carter, both of those schools produce them left and right.....IMO i think LaMarque probably has had the most D1 caliber players, shoot in 03' i think they had like 17 sign major D1 scholorships..

Frog...
we were talking a few weeks ago about Texas vs Florida...and you made a comment about Texas schools having to deal with losing talent to other state colleges, etc...
Straight from Texas Football magazine...
When you subtract the 7 Florida colleges and the 10 texas colleges...
FLORIDA LOSES MORE TALENT TO OUT OF STATE COLLEGES THAN ANYONE IN THE COUNTRY. 196 players.
I think that offsets your argument.

Go back and read the post again.. I even posted the BCS Conferences signees from Texas and Florida slippy. Florida had like 150 sign to BCS Conference schools outside of Florida and Texas had like 144 sign with BCS schools outside of Texas.
Some years Texas may led by a few some years Florida may led by a few.
Texas has more kids sign D-1A and D-1AA over Florida.
PS. The whole argument about D-1A talent is kind of a mute point most years in Texas. Most of the time its schools with only a few D-1A caliber players that win State. Heck, most of the time they beat up on a team that has about a 4/1 ratio of D-1A players compared to themselves.
It comes down to good coaching, good program, and good so called "AVERAGE PLAYERS" that win it all 90% of the time in Texas.
Again.. you trying to debate with me on Texas football still cracks me up.
You really need to go see about 100 games and spend about 20 years really following Texas football and than "MAYBE" you'll be able to hold a strong conversation with me about Texas football. Just my thought. But, hey keep trying.. you know the story about the little train that thought he could right..? Well, keep trying Chut chut..

Conchee.. go take a look at the 2005 Ohio (OHSAA) State track results and then go take a look at the 2005 Texas (UIL) State track results and come back and talk to me.
Take a look at the 100m times, 200M times, 4x100 times, 4x200 times. Make sure you look at the Texas 5A, 4A and 3A results while you're at it. Heck, Texas has some 3A schools that would of been the big school champs in Ohio.
Most the time the Ohio 2nd place team in those events wouldnt of even been in the Texas final.
Dont get me wrong partner. Glenville got some fast boys. Right there with about 20 Texas schools overall. Speed.... Come on man !!! You're talking about Texas here dude.
Go look at the results and get back with me ok.
Colerain 4x200 team with all its "football players" would of been an after thought in Texas. I doubt they would of made it out of the regional track meet.
Heck man.. maybe all those track results arent real and I'm just being a false informaton, misleading "HOMER" again.

TX loses a lot of players to out of state and we have I believe more Texas D1 Colleges.
Texas - TX A&M - Texas Tech - TCU - Baylor - SMU -Rice
Florida Has basically
Univ of Florida - Florida State - Miami - Florida A&M - Central Florida -
I don't know who else.
With that being said, I do think that Florida has better athletes though - I just can't deny that - I think TX is Second when it comes to raw talent.
College is when the Florida athletes finally get some real coaching - That is why they are so good.
I have actually lived in Texas and Florida - So I am not just guessing.
But I think that Texas is #1 in high shool football and Florida is 2nd - Cali 3rd Ohio 4th St. Concha 5th.

Whatever -
The state times were not the best times of the year in TX either. I was using it to show generally where Ohio stands with TX athletes.
I agree that it is a stretch if the teams do not go head to head. If they did, Glenville HS may have actually lost the 200 relay to one or more TX teams. It was all very close. But in Ohio, Glenville HS looks like Giants compared to other schools there. Just Like Colerain in Football.
concha

Glenville do indeed dominate Ohio in track. But Colerain is not a 'giant' in football. They had a standout year for themselves in a relatively down year in Ohio. They have only one state title.

Go back and learn how to re-read ok.. First you STATE, " If Texas is so good than why doesnt Tx A&M have a national title in recent times." I stated to you... " Some Texas schools might but they lose tons of talent each year to out of Texas schools."
You claim that the Florida Big-3 are very good. I agree with you clown. But, the Florida Big-3 recruit NATIONALLY from (Tx, Cali, Penn, Ohio, Canada) and a handful of other States & countries.
Do you really think that Miami would of played in their last National Title game without players like ( QB-Dorsey, Te- Winslow, LB- Williams) all three of those kids are from California. Traveled all the way across the country to play for Miami. Hmmmmm.
Again.. trying to compare the Florida Big-3 rosters that are dotted with kids from all acroos America to Texas rosters that are 95% Texas kids is kind of funny to me.
Last... Go look where I even posted the Tx and Fla recruits for the ACC, Big-12, SEC, Big-10, Big East and Pac-10 slippy. I posted the the recruits and how many there was slippy. Florida had about 10 more kids sign with NON-Florida schools than Texas with NON-Texas schools in those BCS Conferences.

Looking at it now I see 8 last season for Irving Mac. I know that Dave Campbells posted they had 9. I dont know if they had a late signee to make it 9. But, I do think those 8 would be so called legit D-1A signees. At least in my book. I know Irving Mac. also had about 7 others sign with D-1AA, D-AA and Juco's. I know they are predicting this seasons Irving Mac. team to have around 6 D-1A signees. The two LB's have already verbally committed to Oklahoma St. for the 2006 signee period.

No doubt about it. What they produce per-capita is great. When its all said and done all of this has almost nothing to do with High school football.
I've been the first to say that the number of D-1A signees that "team A" or "team B" has doesnt mean alot. Most of the time in Texas the 5A State Champ has just a "FEW" D-1A players on the team (Sr/Jr).
There is no doubt that the Big-3 football producing States in overall numbers is Texas, Florida and California with share numbers.

that is very true and lufkin has their share of those also. it used to happen a lot more until outlaw came. if the kids do not put effort in school first they will not play. simple as that!!
I've been to a few Coach Outlaw practices. Man he runs it like "military boot camp." I was very very impressed with it. He makes sure that helmet is on and that strap is buttoned or your pushing them out. Very impressed with that. Those kids hustle also. They make sure they are out and lined up and ready to start practice.

and if you put i before team he will tell you to take off your gear and go home. outlaw is like a God here we love him. it is not just the winning which does play a big part but it is also the way he knows how to develop a class program and how he knows how to get the most out of his kids on the field and in the class and as a human being. lufkin used to have several players that used to get in trouble on a yearly basis and that has almost came to complete stop since he has been here. he does not put up with that crap i am telling you.

You could see that very easily. He doesnt take it from the players and he doesnt take it from the coaches either. He runs a strict program. No question about it. Seems to be working very well at Lufkin.

SLC should have more D1a recruits then ever in '05. They will have more raw talent and speed the usual coming out of SLC. With the talent and speed coming out of SLC this season and such a prolific coaching staff it should be scary if they can put it all together...
O-
Greg Mcelroy- 6-8 legit D1 offers
Mckay Jacobson- offered all over Big XII, committed to BYU
Clint Renfro- Many offers for football, may choose track (he's kinda fast)
James Allen- offer from Tulsa, many others to come
Michael Prince- Few lefit offers, very promising future
D-
Joseph Agnew- Committed to Tulsa
Patrick Benoist- Offer from vandy, probably a lock there or Stanford
Michael Boydston- Lots off attention, offers coming soon for sure

lufkin will have another 4-7 next year. the biggest class of div1a recruits should come in 06. that class is loaded. 10 is possible with that class!! the most lufkin has ever had is 7 in 1 year and that was in 03.

Impressive list from Coach Owens. I asked my old Varsity Head Coach a few years ago who was the best player he ever coached against. He told me Eric Dickerson (SEALY). Eric Dickerson has 3 touchdowns in the first minute of the football game he told me !!

Owen's is going to go down as one of the greatest high school coaches in TEXAS history. I believe the 2002 TYLER LEE team had 9 DI's and 4 others that got scholarships, that not only says something about football, buy academics as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though I know they don't like each other as best buddies - I know Owens and Outlaw respect each other -- nice to see Lufkin mentioned often in that list. That game he noted was the wildest non playoff game I've seen in years - especially when you factor in the field's condition.

Ya, Spring Westfield is putting out alot of D-1A talent over the last few years. I think in Feb.2002 signing day they had like 7 or 8 kids sign with D-1A that day. That was the team that gave Lufkin everything they wanted in the Astrodome.
Looks like Spring Westfield is going to have at least 5 to maybe 7 kids sign this season with D-1A schools also.

I know that some of the Lufkin coaches that have been with Coach Outlaw for the Sherman days. They say that Hunter Smith was probably the best "ATHLETE" they every had. This is even post Reggie McNeal days. Wow huh ...!!!!!

LB- Jeff Bereuter (6-4/210) - Okla St.
LB- Justin Gent (6-2/210) - Okla St.
OL-Josh Vernon (6-2/280) - TCU.

That team, I fully believe, would have been playing your Dragons for the Region title last year if they could have survived against Denton Ryan. That was one of the best playoff games I've seen. Justin Willis simply willed his team to victory. Just because you lose in the first round, doesn't mean you weren't a good team. IMac was one of the 10 best teams last year.

Irving Macarthur has been pretty unlucky with their playoff first round draws the past few years having to play SLC and Denton Ryan. Irving MacArthur was a good "team" last year and they are on the way up

I'm not really knocking Mac...they did'nt bring much 2 years ago in the playoffs and lost in the 1st round last year and lost a ton of talent...all I'm really pointing out is that they don't have much a playoff tradition....

Yeah, fast like Maurice Clarett??? Fast with that booster money!!! Please, you YANKEES don't stand a chance comparing athletes..... If you got athletes faster where were they during your state meet? Probably out filing false insurance claims!!!!!!!! Times are posted and you can't dispute what's on the record.

We never said ohio didn't have good teams, I for one credit colerain in having a great team. BUT I am a realist and you should realize the competition is much more stiff in Texas not only because it is a bigger state but there are many tradition rich communities which fuel the importance of athleticism at an early age. Oh and some of us may be white trash rednecks that live in houses that make yours look like a garbage can ;) . Have some Soda pop and sit on that.
