Now that realignment has happened and most of the schedules are set, I would like to know what you are looking forward to this year. It could be a game, seeing a player or just about anything that has to do with the 2006 football season.

I'm looking forward to the watered down mediocrity that comes with too many f'n playoff teams. I'm looking forward to even more devalued district races thanks to a nonsensical playoff system that rewards teams based on participation and mediocrity rather than hard work and accomplishment. I'm looking forward to watching Texas high school football continue its gradual, but ever increasing downward spiral towards aggy-like patheticness while being overseen and governed by a body whose collective IQ measures less than the spare change I have under my couch cushions. I can't wait.

the underlying complaint has less to do with the pos, and everything to do with the nhl-like reg season. the d-1 pos will be more fair, but there will be 1 more likely unqualified team playing one more meaningless game before starting thump thump. the real tragedy isn't addressed as we will still not see et v slc.

you're a glass half empty kinda guy arent you? and your's and wide's obsession with turning every post in something "aggy" related is ********, and probably not good for your health. i'm convinced yall can't expand your mind to something past that and your mental aptitude is limited to relating everything back to that. (however, you hit the nail on the head about the collective IQ of the UIL governing body).

back to the topic at hand, I'm curious to see some varisty newcomers for Katy step up and lead this team. Katy's been in this position before, losing a lot but bringing back just enough key returners to control games until the newbies get the hang of it...which happens to come around playoff time :)

That, maybe...just maybe...Lubbock High will finally make the playoffs this year. With some depth and players that will return for 2006, this could be the year that Lubbock High breaks their 30+ YEARS of no playoffs. Now this dream may die in week 8--but hell, I can't help it--it has to happen sometime.

:D :D :D

In the meantime, can anyone help me--I'm getting the shakes because of football withdrawl. No NFL, NCAA or HS football is just maddening. August is so far away!

That will be interesting to see.. but I think even more so than that for pearland.. is will there be a defense that is at least decent at best?

Im also looking forward to see how well NS comes together after returning so many lettermen from a 2005 junior laden team that was one of the better NS teams i have seen in recent memory......

#3 Seeing if Colleyville Heritage can turn 7 returning starters on both sides of the ball into a special season that CHHS has not seen in its 10 years as a school.

#2 - Watching my son play 7 on 7. He learned a lot about himself as CHHS finished 3rd last year. If CHHS makes the state 7 on 7 tournament, I'll be there. I saw some great games and all levels of players digging deep to run one more route, defend one more pass. It really didn't mean much in the big scheme of Texas football, unless you just love to watch or play a game that has a football in it. It was a heck of a day.

#1 - Watching my son play his senior year surrounded by the friends he grew up with.

An added opinion: I don't mind 4 teams in the playoffs. The best almost always end up where they should be. To me it's better than when I went to high school. One team made it and that's it. My senior year we went to state in basketball and there were two other teams in our district with over 20 wins. I'm sure they would have liked to have played a few more games even if it meant playing us again down the road. High school is about education and life lessons and I can think of a whole lot worse lessons than letting a 4-6 team line up for one or two more weeks.

Yeah, I think it is going to be like when it was just Kirby and Kitty Hawk Jr. Highs in the district. I think that also with the competition in 26-5A it will be very hard to have a “knock down drag out” rivalry and I hope both schools realize that. Roosevelt liked playing us right after we played Churchill and Madison because they figured we were ripe for a loss after playing two heavy weights.

Pretty much. I think that the rivalry will escalate once Judson loses to Wagner... for now... Judson will beat them and root for them every other game because they are little Judson... once they beat Judson... it will be war... once they are fighting for adistrict championship... or a playoff game.. the bad blood will brew and never let up.

I was reading an article about football rivalries in one rivalry some of the neighborhood kids would play varsity football so they could play in the big game against their rival and then they would quit the team, go figure.

That is the same thing that happened with Aldine and Eisenhower. We cheered on our district counterparts, until Eisenhower beat us for the first time in 20 years in 1993. Ever since then it has been a great rivalry. Not to mention the fact that some of the kids from both schools went to Junior High together, and then got split up when going to high school. Nothing like beating someone you know.
