Too bad for Michael Irvin, I guess he will have to wait another year to get his chance for the hall.

Too bad for Irvin? Try Art Monk.

I say that Lynn Swann gets kicked out of the Hall until Irvin and Monk are in. The HOF voting is terrible. I can't believe that Rick Reilly was really saying that Aikman was not a HOFer because he had Irvin and Emmit on his team.

Skins, I was listening to The Ticket here in Dallas all week as they were at the Super Bowl press row. Every time Michael Irvin not getting in came up, the Art Monk issue was brought up.
After the voting today, a guy who was on the selection group said that Art was considered behind Irvin due to the fact that of his 4 Super Bowls, he was either injured or had a poor game in all but 1 game. In other words, they are holding poor performances in big games against him. Also that he was a possession receiver and almost never lead his team in receptions for the season. He may have had a long career, but the guy said to name one Art Monk catch that stands out in your mind......nobody had an answer.....he said that that is why Art isn't in the Hall and if he ever went, would go behind Irvin.
Not my opinion, I think he should be in, just reporting what I heard all week.

Ah well....I just hope they put him in before he passes on. And i hope they Russ Grim in there as well....the Hogs need to get some respect!
But I do believe Irvin should be in at a later time....after Monk.

Irvin should go in before Monk because he was a better receiver. His stats would've been better than Monk's if he had played as long as Art.

At least that's better than when you said "Irvin was on the Superbowl teams of the mid 90's".....
But if he wasn't loaded up on crack, he probably would've played longer....

maybe if veterans stadium had a surface that was atleast softer than the parking lot he would have been able to play longer.

Exactly!.... Know what the hell you are talking about before you start bashing Michael Irvin. The Playmaker's career was cut short because of a neck injury he suffered against the Eagles at Veterans Stadium....
When did Michael Irvin ever test positive for crack cocaine????
He was caught in a hotel with a stripper with cocaine....not crack cocaine.....But that had nothing to do with his career ending early.
Michael Irvin has 3 Super Bowl rings and is top 10 all time....at least top 10...maybe top 5 depending on who you ask. He should be in the HOF.

I agree with that...Art should have been in a long time ago.
But why don't you address the fact that you didn't even know how Irvin's career ended...Instead of investigating........you assume it was drug related.
Aren't you the same guy that plays the role of "class" police all the time?

After Art Monk.
truthfully Art Monk deserved to be in the hall before Irvin until Irvin became eligible. Irvin was the best or second best player at his position throughout the nineties. Monk was never the best or second best player at his position. Monk only went to the pro-bowl 3 times. Monk only had 5 1000 yard seasons in 16 seasons. Irvin had 7 1000 yard seasons in 11 seasons. Irvin also had 5 pro bowl seasons. Irvin was a better receiver than Monk. Therefore he deserves to be in the hall before Monk. Monk has hall-worthy stats, but I don't believe he had hall-worthy dominance. Irvin had hall-worthy dominance which I think is more important than hall-worthy numbers.

His stats would have been better, like Aikmans', if the Cowboys hadn't stopped passing in the second half because they were up by 2-3 touchdowns at the half. Most folks don't remember what a dominant team the 91-96 Cowboys could be.

Yes, that's a huge part of the consideration. Aikman didn't win passing titles because Emmitt ran TD's into the end zone instead of Aikman passing like Steve Young did.
Aikman was a worthy inductee, just like Warren Moon. We were talking a few days ago about how he got jyped coming out of Udub just because he was black. He was Rose Bowl MVP in 1978 and didn't get a sniff of an NFL offer to play QB. He proved himself in Canada with the Grey Cups, but they still jyped him on MVP's. That dude had almost, if not over, 80K passing yards between the CFL and NFL. I saw a good piece two nights ago about how important it was for Doug Williams to play like he did in the Super Bowl. That really opened the door to have more black QB's in the NFL.
Irvin really should've gone into the Hall of Fame and I bet he does next year.
Reggie had to go in and I won't argue with Madden. Harry Carson was the leader of that Giant defense that won 2 titles. I bet Derrick Thomas gets in next year, too.
I was thrilled that Rayfield Wright got in. I thought they were going to jyp the Cowboys again and take only Aikman, but they did the right thing and let a 1970's Cowboy in there. Maybe the pressure and all the stories about the anti-Cowboys bias got to them. Dr. Z has said for years that his fellow voters hate the Cowboys and won't let them in. We still have a few more from the winningest team in the 70's that need to get in like Bob Hayes and Cliff Harris.

Bob Hayes and Cliff Harris definitely need to be in there. Michael Irvin should get in too. Glad to see Aikman get in.
I really get tired of numbers and stats. When you have a well balanced team, it is hard for on player to stack the numbers. Having a good QB and a good RB can certianly keep them down. The only numbers I care about is the ones on the score board. IMO putting so much credit in stats and percentages has often hindered the "team" concept. To often it becomes about the individual, and those numbers on paper, rather than what is best for the team.

You're right on all points and that's where the hypocrisy comes in. Swann and Stallworth did not have great stats but they got in on the team concept because they had a great defense and played with a HOF QB and RB. We only ask for fairness for former Cowboys of the 70's and that hasn't happened although Rayfield was a start. I almost think the voters said to themselves that there would be a riot if Dallas didn't get 2 guys this year, because this anti-Cowboys bias talk has been increasing a lot over the last few years.

So everyone agrees with Warren Moon getting in on his FIRST ballot appearence? He may have thrown for miles but the guy couldn't win a big game if his life depended on it.

I was thrilled Aikman and Moon got in. Tell me how leading his team to a 35-3 lead was his fault? I think that might have had something to do with the defense. Both Aikman and Moon are 2 of the most accurate passer's in NFL history.

It doesn't piss me off anymore. Too much water under the bridge. Moon couldn't even get the Oilers past a mediocre Kansas City Chiefs team that had Montana (whose best years were over) for QB and the playoff game was in the Dome.
