no love for the metromess schools? i'm betting 1-2 show up in the regional finals, in place of a couple of these.

With QB Justin Johnson returning next season, I think Richardson Berkner and their wishbone offense will once again have something to say.

I agree, those guys can run that option to perfection. Berkner should have a great team but they are coming out of one heck of a district!!! Berkner, Lake Highlands, Allen, Plano, Plano East, Plano West...YOU KIDDING ME!?!

A lot of those teams are going on past reputations. Allen has never impressed me with the exception of 2003, I think Plano losses a heck of a lot from a quality team to repeat what they did last year. Plano East always underachieves and I dont see that changing next year. Plano West is a mystery, I thought they were going to be better last season but they werent. I believe Berkner has a excellent shot to win this district.

Impressive past reputaions, most definetly. However, Plano went to the 3rd round last year and competed with a great SLC team (they do lose a lot of senior talent though) Plano East went to the second round I think along with Lake Highlands. Wylie went to the 4th round in 4A (still a different level, I dont think they'll compete in this district) Berkner, probably the favorite to win this district went to the 3rd round. Allen and West are almost always good. So it wasn't too long ago that these teams were playing great football...

I agree with the Wylie statement, I dont think they will be able to compete. The Wylie team I saw last year was very weak. Hebron could have put 60 on them if htey wanted to.

Also, this is why 9-5a will be such a tough district next season. In past years, even though the teams' records may not have seemed "top notch", that's because it's pretty much an any-given-night situation. Whenever you put the Richardson schools, the Plano school, and Allen in the same district, there are never any push over games. Lake Highlands and Berkner will always try to crush each other, the Plano schools will crush each other, and Allen will try to crush everybody. No school from 9-5a will enter the playoffs without being battletested.

lh is the only frequently good richardson school. berkner, up until 3-4 years ago was marked down as a sure win for most good teams.

Well, in those past 3-4 years, many teams on that list have gotten more competitive. I think it will be interesting to put them back together after their individual success the past 2-3 years.

Good list - certainly Longview and Lufkin are perennial powerhouses.

Lufkin has a great player base for 2006 with all the Juniors returning, on both Offense and Defense.

Longview will certainly want to rebound after the disappointments of last season.

Westfield are proving to be one of the new powerhouses of 5A.

The Woodlands also have a strong Junior playing base returning and could make an impact.

Finally, but not least A&M had a great 2005 season and should do well again.

Also Austin Westlake are always competitive who have a great program and should not be over-looked

A&M Consolidated is the current Division 1, Region 2 Champion and will hold that title until someone better takes it away. But it won't happen in the 2006 season, ACM is loaded with returning seasoned players and talent. And we are the 2nd largest school in population in our district so we will probably go the D1 route to state again unless Bryan gets in this year. There may be another Head coach search for Bryan HS soon, school board didn't extend current Head Coach & AD's 2 year contract which expires in May 2006 at the last school board meeting.

I think the best two teams will be Lufkin and AMC from region 2. AMC has so many electric players as does Lufkin, although I do think Detron Lewis is a little overrated. AMC has 2 explosive running backs , a decent QB and a hell of a defense. I would love to see AMC Vs Lufkin in ithe playoffs.

How do yall think Lufkins defense will be next year without Mandela R. and Lenard Hewitt?

Longview will probably have the most trouble of all of them. They'll be rebounding after graduating the best class since the 77 Team with Hosea.

If anything...Lewis is under-rated. He is the best high school WR I've [personally] seen in high school since Sloan Thomas.

Coaches will find a way to get Lewis' hands on the ball more this year. It should prove to be interesting. He willl prove to be defensive's worst nightmare next year as I understand how they will use him.

Yes, the Austin district including Westlake is back in Region 4--we'll only see Region 1 and Region 2 in the preseason (we play Abilene and A & M Consolidated) and hopefully in the state finals!!

NO, he's defense. Offense has Max Taylor (T), Matt Adams (T), Michael Jost (C), I think the guard slots are still up in the air with Cameron Kegler (G) and Kevin Hanks (G) keeping their positions a little longer. BTW - Taylor is Davis's uncle.

Is Consolidated changing their offense? They ran on us pretty tough and we were very impressed with Lewis at receiver. Looking forward to playing in the playoffs again!

If ACM and TWHS meet again in the playoffs, it won't be in the first round this time I suppose with realignment.

No, the coaches won't be changing an offense that gelled so nicely at the end of the year. Some of the locals had a few doubts early in the year when the O seemed to sputter from time to time. The benefit of having 3 QB's last year that all saw significant playing time is the two returners have experience now. They've both started games and found incredible ways to pull out unbelievable wins. There is confidence in both of them. Berkner taught everyone a very powerful lesson last year when their QB went out with the busted jaw. Their backup was either not very good or was ineffective against a quick swarming defense. At times it was tough last year with the QB changes, but both of those kids are not going to have to learn a new offense and compete for a starting job. Just going to have to compete against each other for the role of starter. Plus, there's the JV QB that got so much better at the end of last season. sorry about writing the novel...

The ball will find its way into Detron Lewis' hands more is all I'm saying. Be afraid. Be very afraid. ;)

Look for Leander to be right up there in the thick of things like they have been over recent years if they can find somebody that can run the ball besides just Josh McKinnley (so probably Josh Bartley). 3 starters on the online are coming back, Curenski Gilleyland is arguably the best reciever in the district next year (or at least he finished with the best numbers of any returning reciever in the district and was 1st team all district) and the core of our defense is returning. LB Will McCann, DL Ryan Douglass, and Josh McKinnley also got 1st team for FS but probably wont start their next year since he'll probably be starting at QB. Also both CB's Ram Rodriegez and Chad Cannon were 2nd team along with all purpose db Aaron Redman who had 3 int's. And i almost forgot about Blake Gideon who showed flashes of absolute greatness at FS before he got injuried for the season. If you want my personal opinion, whether or not you think it is biased or not i think we are probably the favorites again to win our district and i think we could go a few rounds deep (even though we dont have the 1st round bye of 16-5a aka the weaker/lesser Austin district, we have to play a real district in the 1st round). My predictions of 14-5a go as follows.

Leander (district champs outright or in a three way tie since this seems to happen alot in our district)
Pflugerville (losing a decent amount but their pflugerville and have been the most consistant team in our district over the last 10 years or so)
Cedar Park (With Tyler Smith and Travis Watson they will be back in the playoffs and will be a force next year, i wont be suprised what order these top 3 teams are in but i will be VERY suprised if any of them aren't in the playoffs)
Stony Point
Round Rock
RR McNeil
Georgetown
RR Westwood
Cedar Park
