Great link Go Owls. Is there anyone who can possibly defend these provisions? I have heard very little positive about this bill. It has been described as a triumph for the Democrats and the President but I can not find much on actual provisions that are considered positive other than it would provide health insurance for everyone and I do not think that is a positive when you consider what must be sacrificed to achieve this end. This is a greater threat to liberty than anything that was ever in the Patriot Act.

Mong, I've had this link posted since 8 Sunday morning and you are the first to respond to it...I'm left to think that people against it are just resigned to the inevitability of it and that the Obama/congress supporters see it but are too proud to admit they are wrong and screwed like the rest of us, just like they didn't get why it was stupid to vote for him.....or McCain.

I know. We're lucky right. I want to continue paying $9,000 a semester for tuition, fees, and books on top of all of my other living expenses for the rest of my life. If only I had any "real bills." Like my car payment, rent, cell phone, water bill, electricity, car insurance, internet, television, etc. Lucky me, I guess?

I've been paying my own bills since I was 18 years old...since I moved out of my mother's house. I also paid my way through college, both undergrad & grad. Mommy and daddy didn't pay for my college education.

That damn electricity bill I paid when I was 20 sure seemed real to me.

And for the record, I hardly visit the site on weekends. I hardly ever open up link thingys either.

you might want to start on this one. I am confident that you don't know what is happening, because if you did then you would be up in arms about this. I think you are plenty smart to see that this is not a party issue, it is a threat to your paycheck issue. I was in deer camp this week and talking with some pretty heavy hitters and this came up. the old adage, "You don't know what you don't know" seems very appropriate for a lot of America. Please RR, help educate EVERYONE that will ever pay taxes and their own way as to what this bill really says.

We have two different GoOwls threads on HC reform on the front page of the yard, and one from someone else. None of them featuring original thought, instead copypasta or a link.

A lot has been better around here.

Yes no one around here has ever started a thread with hey look what I read or saw and thought was interesting.

Your post equals FAIL considering your own track record. Further, did you read the link I posted. The content of the link had very little to do with health care as was more a commentary on the nature and role of government in our society. For me the entire health care debate is merely a vehicle by which we can discuss our broader understanding of our government's role in society.

I was directing my response to your criticism of posting material that was not an original thought, a "crime" which you have been guilty of far more than I. In regards to the similarity of the posts I will again answer your criticism by directing you to read the article I posted. Health care is only mentioned in passing in the article. I have used the article to help explain my position on the current health care reform proposal by further explaining my own philosophy and understanding of the nature of government by referencing the work of another. I am sorry that you find my starting of another thread to this end offensive but in truth I did not check the board for similar threads. I read the article and just wanted to have others take on it so I created a thread. If you would like to combine the threads then by all means become a moderator or something and go ahead. I was not aware that there was a rule that you had to check other threads before beginning one of your own. I will endeavor in the future to adhere to proper board etiquette.

I don't know if they should call this a Health Care Bill or a tax bill. The bill calls for 572 Billion in Taxes and or other revenue generating provisions. I like how they call it provisions affecting revenue.

One of the more interesting parts of the legislation seems to be its reliance on producing fines in order to maintain a positive cash flow. The legislation is expecting to collect 167 billion in fines and penalties to offset its cost. This means that if every one were to follow the law we would not be able to pay for the law. Does it seem odd to anyone else that we would be counting on this as a means to pay for this bill? Does this not give the government incentive to fine its own citizens. Should our municipalities be dependent on income from traffic tickets? Our government has turned its criminal code into another vehicle by which to tax its citizens and pay for its excess.

They were trying to find money to put in the budget so it would work. How do they know that that many people will pay the fines or need to? Who will collect the fines? The IRS? Great let's just expand that agency as well.

A couple of questions concerning my posting a PBS summary of the bill.

Why would a political conservative do this?

Why wouldn't a political liberal respond with a summary from a conservative media outlet?

Could it be that I am more confident in my stance than that liberal?

Could it be that political liberals have not taken the time to think this through?

I find it hard to believe that anyone would support more government spending, much less fund it with anticipated penalties and fees. But, then again these are the same legislators that are allowing major banks to borrow below 1% and charge good paying customers in excess of 20%.
