I know we will be letting go some people after the first of the year.

We have cut about all we can, but if things don't pick up there may have to be more.

I bet that makes Christmas really fun.

The Economy goes the way of small business and when they hurt everyone hurts.

Very true. And small business is hurting right now. I now of some that are holding their own but none are hiring or growing. That is what scares the heck out of me.

Only 10.2%. Nothing to get too worried about.

I can't wait until we finally get out the Bush economy and get going strong with the Obama economy.

After a year of balloons, champaign, back-slapping, etc., we're down to 10.2% unemployment now........?

Now I don't care who you are, but that's CHANGE you can starve to death on, right there....;)

I bet we hear the same thing in about two years when reelection time comes. At some point doesn't there need to be a little bit of owning up? I mean he has borrowed a billion million dollars for this didn't he?

The challenge our small business is having is revenue predictability. We use to be able to forecast very accurately revenues 4-5 months out. Right now it's hard to accurately forecast 4-5 weeks out. While we're growing a little bit this year, by no stretch of the imagination are we confident to implement mid-range plans like hiring more people and expanding infrastructure.

Until revenue predictabilty comes back, most small businesses will continue to hedge their bets each month and we'll stay in this holding pattern.

You hit it on the head. We are holding everything very tight.

I deliver about 150 small business every day....been on that route for almost 25 years, so I know the territory and the people....they are in the same mode there too. Unsure of next week....this week may be OK, but can't count on anything....will not spend money hiring new people or buying new equipment just yet....too much unsureness and doubt.

The above is an exclaimation mark as to the folly of messing with healthcare before we fix the economy.....the people on my route have no idea how they'll pay for it, and the fines are just another unfair tax on people with innitiative to pay for people with none.

I am working on next year's budget and am lost for the first time in years. I can get the first quarter done pretty well but am really scared to go past that. Way to many unknowns. Projections are way off.

I would love for Pelosi, Reid or even our President to come into any small business for a month. Especially this time of year when budgets are being done. I think it would blow them away to actually see how small business or even businesses work.

BTW, my route is a soild mix of service, manufacturing (both parts and finished products), distribution industires, so I see the whole gamut.

Unemployment rate is 46 percent (working age adults) in Northern Illinois town of Pembroke.

Population is 3000. I hope their football team is in the playoffs so they will have something to do. I know many in the North start playoffs sooner than we do, so it may be close to over.

The city has fired the police force.

The School District has closed two of three elementary schools.

People don't rebuild after a fire.

What shape was this place in before the downturn? :(
