I'll play!
We didn't enter any tournaments last year due to the new coaching staff. But we played in a local league and did not lose a game. This year we will enter at least two SQTs. We should have a good group on offense. QB Tate Smith, WR/S Bront Bird (6'2" 190# and has a great vertical) and Lavorick Williams (6'2"), RBs Robert Murry and Melvis Pride are all returners. Defensively, we'll stick Bird and Murry out there, plus linebacker Alex Lujan and SS Andrew Amoyaw. Lots of new faces should contribute as well. I'm looking forward to it.

how in the world did yall win it a few years ago....almost as surprising as baytown lee winning it all last summer!!! this year it really should be wide open, which translates to great games across the whole state!

Copperas Cove always fields a team for the tourney. They have qualified every year for the championships. The question this year will be who will be at helm at QB. I dont think Junior Robert Griffin will be, but there is talk that Ben Hogan will be the QB. (nobody's heard of him)

the teams who are most successful in 7on7 year in and year out are teams that run basketball type offenses for their 7on7 games. lots of picks, scrums, and 7dbs on defense. azle and a lamar come to mind. not really very helpful come august since none of the plays are useable. can't say thats what operm did, but i would suspect it.

Actually, no. We were successful because we had some good tall receivers and a smart QB. You do, however, see a lot of teams that run those one yard crossing routes- impossible to do in a real game.

Then your team is doing things wrong. Cooper has always played with 3 LBs and 4 DBs. I don't think we've ever lined up with 7 DBs and that is true of most of the successfull 7 on 7 teams I have seen. Unless you play a 3-1-7 defense, I don't know why you would ever line up like that.
Your comments about plays are also curious. A lot of the plays we ran during 7 on 7 were much of the same plays we ran during the season. Not all, but a lot. A couple of teams even use the same wrist band play sheets for 7 on 7 that they do during the regular season. They are basicly the same plays just minus the O-line.

if you've watched the 2 teams i mentioned, you'd be less curious. they run basketball plays, and will have 7 dbson occasion. the teams that get the most out of 7on7, and thus are more successful in the fall run their offense and play their d with the same guys that'll be in pads. nowhere did i impugn acoop. sorry for the misunderstanding.

The time I watched Azle they did exactly as you said. Brady (3A) is another team that is bad about that. I've seen them 3 different times, and their favorite play is to drag a guy right along the line of scrimmage and then just flip it to him.

sooo...basically your describing the utah pass!!! that is definately fun in 11 man football....and that is not what they do all the time, otherwise they would only score twice a game getting that few amount of yards everytime.

Obviously he has'nt..Richardson High is another one..they do well in 7 on 7 with all the picks & stuff, & 11 man just wears them out...

It's a lot easier to complete trick play's and what not when you've only got seven to beat than it is when you've got eleven. How often has the team that won 7 on 7 went on to win a state title?

I've always liked the way Eastland plays. Brownwood is another one the uses a lot of the same plays from the season for 7 on 7. I think Frenship does too, but I could be mistaken.

FB Marshall will be back in the State 7 on 7 games once again for the third year in a row, hopefully they'll finally make it to the big game, instead of fallin' the game before

Hey OP,
Of that West Texas 7 on 7 Schedule you posted, how many do you think PERMIAN will participate in? I guess my main concern is

At least two I presume. We've done the Frenship one the last two times, but that was because they were in ours, and we just swapped entry fees basically. I'm guessing we'll do Abilene and then either B'wood or Frenship.

celina-2000 won both state titles. there have been as many teams win 7on7 titles and not make the playoffs. operm-in 04, and n mesquite in 99 i think.

actually, there have been quite a few teams that have done well in 7 on 7, then translated it onto the field on friday nights. Although, its not a 100% translation, it definately helps your skill postion players and their timing!!! and yes, i have seen brady play, the past two years.

the correlation is as strong to miss the po's as it is to win state, in this statistical analysis. i agree with the statement if the team is running their offense and their defensive players are playing their positions. it can only help if you are trying to improve and not win at all costs.

The play I'm talking about run by Brady could be construed as a shovel pass, but it is definitely not a play that would translate in a real game.

what was the hotshot qbs name on that team, and what did he end up doing after hs? he was pretty salty, but it was hard to get a read on him having to play against the likes of ranger and albany.

moved here with a 9th, 7th and 5th grader. last one finished last year(05). moved here because of the reputation of hard work and success in all phases of the education process, and the location.
