Initial thoughts.

Lots of CA schools.

UC San Francisco? I don't know that I actualy knew that was a school.

Stanford representing, but where is Harvard/Yale?

odd list

Not really, it's very straightforward. Expenditures for research in science/engineering.

The Ivies are good, but they are not hard science/engineering powerhouses like most of the schools on that list. It's going to be tough for a private to crack, and those that do are going to be the Stanford/MITs of the world. Cornell is up there.

The UC system is top of the line for science research.

Figured this was the case. Stanford/Duke made the list, Is JH/Cornell private?

Another question I liely should know the answer to, are UCSF and the university of San Francisco the sme thing?

In any case, UCSF beating out it's bay neighbors is odd, don't you think?

OK, but since when did first hand studying the reproductive system of a female sheep qualify for the Top 20 research list?

One thing they would not appear to be in the top 20 in is designing/building facilities that are up to code....

Engineers say Texas A&M athletic facility wasn't built to withstand high winds
By Danny Robbins (CP) – 15 hours ago

DALLAS — Texas A&M University's tentlike athletic complex wasn't built to withstand the maximum winds prescribed by the building code, according to an engineering firm hired by the university to evaluate the US$35.6-million structure.

Yes, and they have also long been very concentrated on the hard sciences.

UCSF is not USF.

Apparently it is primarily a medical school/health care research instituton.

Harvard/Yale are business and law schools. Not research.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5hdYLEZKBOxEzdhUHikj20Q9FdeBwDid you read the part where the company who designed the faulty Dallas Cowboys practice facility is the same company that designed McFerrin? Or the part about A&M being the ones to hire the company to double-check the work after the cowboys structure fell?

Or did you feel like bringing up something completely off-topic because you couldn't handle A&M getting recognition for a national honor?

read it on Aggie Yell and thought it was funny. The thread title was what made me chuckle.

McFerrin Athletic Center not built to code.

The talk was how it may hurt recruiting and how Fran help fund the building of it.

Didn't say it would. You'd have to ask the poster who made the comment.

Codswallop!

Again I didn't make the comment, simply reported what was being discussed.

If someone were to bring it up to a recruit as part of a pitch, saying the athletic facilities wern't up to code and playing on momma's fears by referring to the Dallas Cowboys accident, I am not sure she would be calmed by the fact that it doesn't really matter because it's a track facility.

Again, just thought it was funny. Reading about how the school is into the sciences on one sight and then seeing that a builiding on campus isn't up to code on another.

Doesn't really seem off topic to me. Building codes are developed by engineering research.... I thought that was something A&M was big on?

None the less, it seems like a valid joke on this thread to me.
