Now the question will be..

Will the game stay at Abe Martin where right now everyone is saying it is going to be?

Or will it be moved to SFA's Homer Bryce Stadium? We already broke the attendance record once there..no reason we can't do it again.

On the game, well...God help us. Whatever happens though Ill still be there.

So far here is the information that is set right now.
Longview @ Lufkin
September 15th, 2006 - Week 2

I would not be so sure about the game being on Friday. The last time that ESPN had a game on television Fox tried to put up a game against it and would not be surprised if that happened again. Carroll is playing Evangel on TV that week and I bet that the game that would be best to televise against it is Lufkin vs. Longview/

The day after there will be even more. If they win the game they will call this team the greatest team of all time and award themselves the state championship already. If they lose there will be the most fans here. It will be bleedgreen talking about how Lufkin was the better team and Myround0 and thousands of others talking about how the refs jobbed them.

I am a die-hard Lobo fan, always will be. I suport my team. BUT, I will not be talking any kind of crap before, during, or after that game. I have always tried to be a realist. It is a game. Yes, Lufkin has had our number for the past several years, but they have been some of the best games I have seen. I look forward to the LV/LP matchup. I'm glad we get a shot at them during the regular season. Win or lose, I look for it to be a good, hard-fought game between two teams that match up VERY well together. In many ways, they are mirror images of each other, but in other ways they're opposites.

The halftime should be fun, to me anyway. I am an old Lobo Band member, and have the utmost respect for Lufkin's band, and even more so now that a former Lobo Band member, and assistant director, is now at Lufkin. Should be an awesome night of Texas HS football.

As for the "fans" that will be on here, most of them will be students, or people that have NOT followed the Lobos or Panthers regularly. They will just be here to try to start a war. It's going to be wild, I'm sure. There will be some idiots on here. Don't feed the trolls and it'll be fine.

Lufkin has alot of talent back this year and Longview hopes to rebuild fielding a young and inexperienced team. I don't see us beating a team like Lufkin in week two but who knows.....stranger things have happened. I will be there to watch though, I think our team will be competitive again this season.

I'm glad Lufkin was able to get in a tough game early in the year. Too bad we couldn't get REL as well. I think the only challenge we are likely to see in district is The Woodlands. Other than that, it should be another year of 35pt victories. Wish we could have ended up in a more competitve district.

Coach O is still hoping to land JT or Lee in week 4 or 5 -- I think he and Coach Owens have mended the Ohio rift.

PackAttack2005
02-03-2006, 09:19 AM
According to David Smoak, JT and Lee both have full schedules for the next two years. The only way Lufkin will play either of those two schools would be if they each dropped a non-district opponent.

Still may happen, but there aren't many teams knocking on Lufkin's door to play in non-district right now. Coach Outlaw told me this morning they have a two week window to fill out thier schedule, he said it may take all two weeks because he is not getting many return calls right now.

Also, I don't think he and Owens have mended much personally, professionally, yes.

Forget SFA. We want Longview to come to Abe!! The last time it was 35-7 going into the 4th quarter when Lufkin emptied the bench with subs. score ended up 35-21. Make them come to Abe where they can only bring like 1,500 fans. :D It is called HOME field advantage and Lufkin has one of the best in the state without a doubt. Been years and years since Lufkin has lost at Abe. Outlaw would be crazy to change it to SFA.

And you must have amnesia? Lufkin has beat Longview at Longview the last 3 or 4 times they have played there. I can easily name 3!! 14-0 in 2003 23-12 in 2002 21-7 in 2001 etc

Is this what we have to look forward to until September?

Worse yet, there is talk around that because Lufkin can't find anyone to play them, we may consider playing Longview twice in non-district on a home and home schedule.

I hope that is not seriously being considered because the fall out would be too great, this site would implode before September.

There has got to be a better solution, someone with a logical mind must prevail.

Robinson? I don't know the name. Our FB will be a 5'8'' 165 lb Jr. Don't let his size fool you this guy should be pretty good....elusive is the word. He had almost 400 yds as back-up last year and sometimes the backup Oline was in there. I hope at RB we will have a guy named Aubrey Wickerson. I think he has had a few disciplinary problems but the guy has good size and has potential to be very good. Played most of the year on JV. If he doesn't work out then the coaches will have plenty of options as usual at the RB position.

See some innocent smack talk! Nothing wrong with that. Maybe this class thinks they are unbeatable at Abe because they have never lost there. :D It has been a good while. Years that is!! Pack08, you should know by now that innocent smack talk means a defense of territory in Lobo dialect. A couple guys like Bleedgreen and BigArab are pretty cool and reasonable about most stuff, but some of the others I am not so sure about sometime.

Mark Johnson and Jazmon Moon are our next Ivory and McGee. They played on 2nd string last year as Sophomores. And when Ivory came out with all the heat problems, injuries, whatever he had last season, Mark Johnson would fill his space.

I think these two guys were great runners as sophomores. VERY fast. Hopefully they'll continue to improve.

I am a little blunt at times that is just me. I am just picking or teasing the vast majority of the time. It is just football. we have one starter on the oline returning. The Oline will determine how well our offense does. All the 2nd stringers saw considerable amount of PT coming in the 3 and 4 quarters though. I think the coaches will bring it together. No returners on the Dline but there are some talented Jrs that will be very good. #96 remember that number. 6'1'' 240 lbs. This guy is going to be very good. Our D will be just as good and maybe better than last year in IMO.

I thought Moon was going to be strong or free safety. He was not very impressive to me at RB. I agree he is pretty fast but something was missing. But then again I though the same thing about Vondrell when he was a sophomore backing up Jerrel and we all know how he turned out. I think Wickerson will be very good if he will behave and let the coaches teach him.

A normal Panther home game will pack in around 8500 or more Lufkin folks at Abe Martin. Lufkin fans normally out number the visitors, on the visitor side.

In our new district the last couple of years, the schools from the Conroe/Klein districts didnot bring many fans up to Abe, so attendence has been down a little as far as visitor attendence. In the old days with Longview, Tyler and Marshall schools it wasn't unusual for there to be up to 12,000 at home games, Abe holds close to 10,000.

When Longview comes to Abe in September, it will be like old times, a sell out.

As far as RB, I'm hoping Wilkerson behaves because I heard he's pretty good and pretty solidly built. As far as defense goes. At LB you have Antajuan Guinn coming back. Then I heard there were a couple of junior headhunters vying for the other spot. D-line will have pretty good size. DB will probably be quick and hard-hitting once again. My main question is with both the O-line and the QB. I heard that D'Marcus Miles transferred to PT.

Why would he stay all last year as backup and then move when it his chance to start? Unless someone transfers in that will get the spot over him or the coaches find someoe else I just wouldn't understand that.

Just a few fights and Longview is having "all the problems". For the most part Longview is a safe school and a few bad apples make trouble from time to time as happens at almost every school. In my time there I only feared for my life a few times. LOL Just kidding I never felt in danger. My brother was there when the shooting took place and he feared for his life.

I hope it's worse than the 52-14 Longview hung on them last year. Don't let them score a point, and just keep pounding them. Make them 0-3, or is it 4 (?), in Texas this coming year.

I am really looking forward to that one. Now remember Lobo9498, when Evangel beat Lufkin in 2001 (Lufkin's only loss that season) They also beat the Lobos that year. Yall have beat them 4 times since correct? Lufkin should absolutely embarrass Evangel but it is at Shreveport and i hear they can be a bit biased up there. ;) It will not matter Lufkin should have no problems. I'm confused..Carroll is playing ECA in week 2 at Dragon Stadium..you guys are shown playing them in week 2...either way they have Lufkin & Carroll in back to back weeks..which is a chore for anybody, anywhere...

Yeah that does not make sense drgnbkr? To be honest with you! Lufkin should have no problem going undefeated for a 3rd straight regular season. This might upset some Longview fans but the only game i see that has a chance at be competitive is at The Woodlands. Longview just loses too much and Lufkin just brings too many very good players back. Not to mention the game is at Abe where Lufkin is scary good. I think Lufkin wins fairly easily in that one. Should be a yawner regular season but i guess you never know? Lufkin's district is bad and i am being nice. It is just my honest opinion from the way it looks in February.

IF Lufkin is playing Evangel, I hope it's at Indy. That's the only place that would hold the Lufkin crowd that will be there. And, yes, the officiating is awful in LA. Gotta watch out for the mythical calls they pull out of their hat. As for the Lufkin/Longview game, you might be right, but stranger things have happened. I"m going to reserve judgement on who wins. I just look forward to an old-style East Texas football WAR on the field. The game will be good all-around, even halftime will be completely enjoyable, lol. Whatever happens, it should be a good game.

Like I've said before..this season is exciting for us because as in 2002, we don't know exactly what we will have..we should be good, but how good is the question...Lufkin knows they will be very good..great? Could be...

You might win but I think we are going to be better then you are giving us credit for. We are not Aldine Eisenhower or Nac(who you struggled against for most of the game last year). Longview will be competitive this year, even against the great and mighty Lufkin Panthers. We will have a very good defense and a young offense that should have most of the kinks worked out when we play you in week 5. So I wouldn't count my eggs before they hatch.

Wow, you reminding us that Nac played Lufkin tough for the first time in a zillion years years is very shocking! I am well aware that a great program like Longview is not Ike who has fallen on tough times or especially Nac. I just know Lufkin will be loaded next year and the game will be at Abe. I hear Longview lost a lot of very good players. But good programs reload so you never know? Lufkin was absolutely loaded in 2003 and you saw what happened. They were shocked in the 1st round. Nac actually returns most of their team from last year and should be a good to very good 4a team. They will have no chance at Abe though. I expect it to turn back the annual blow out it usually is.

just saying you are setting yourself up for a big let down thinking you would beat us "fairly easily". it has been a while since anyone has done that.

Everyone knows that L'View is never any easy game for anyone. Everyone also knows what happens if your team shows up at Ol' Abe with less than their "A" game. Sometimes, their "A" game is not enough.

Either way, i am looking forward to seeing the game.

You obviously hasn't seen a Longview game as Longview brings a ton of fans just like Lufkin does.

I doubt we'll be able to get as many as I would like into Abe (which is the main reason I want it at SFA so I can actually move).

Last time I went to Abe in 03 was horrible. Someone tried to steal our seats and of course we scored right when we were trying to get out and get a officer person. I don't like Abe.

O well. Should be a fun season for both Longview and Lufkin..can you believe this thread already has over 80 posts!

Been there, done that. You don't realize the history these two teams have do you? Were you present for the 25,000+ at SFA in the playoffs two years ago? I was. I was one of the ones wearing green on the Visitor's side of Homer Bryce. You could not tell where the stands ended and the hills began. It was great. I think Abe will be PACKED with Panther and Lobo fans. We're no stranger to big games as fans. We always travel well, especially against East Texas foes. It should be a lot of fun to play them in the regular season again. The Lobos and Panthers played in district since the 1960's, until they were broken up. So, we are no strangers to each other. We all know what to expect, and we expect it. Nothing new to us....

Because most contracts are for home-and-home games. They're usually 2 year contracts, except for the Ouachita game apparently. We know that wherever we played them this year will be reversed for next season. If we play them at home this year, we will play them at their home next year. That's how you can get the schedule for the next two years. The only game up in the air will be who will replace Ouachita.

The meeting with Marshall this year will be the 96th time to play them. Lobo fans KNOW that no matter what, that game WILL happen every year.

I definitely consider that 03 game a fairly easy win?? Lufkin was up 35-7 going into the 4th quarter and emptied the bench. Longview scored 2 late scores vs Lufkin's 2nd and 3rd string defenses. One after an onside kick. Whenever you can rest your starters for a whole quarter it is a fairly easy win. Lufkin might have won 49-7 if they left their starters in that game. Outlaw showed mercy like he usually does. Lufkin is very tough at any stadium but they are scary tough at Abe. We will see what happens this year. Lufkin has nothing but respect for Longview.

Evangel's program is nothing like it was and Lufkin's program is even better.
yea, Lufkin should completely dismantle ECA(as we have for the past 4 years--LOL)but you have to remember---if you are playing across the state line, you will be playing the "zebras" as well......."a bit biased", you said??? i'll tell you this, that is an understatement!! you'll finally realize what i've been complaining about for 5 years now...if they screw you guys...i know that they hate us...they may like Lufkin a little better, but i doubt it.................

The talent has been overwhelmingly great for Longview the past two years. This year Coach King will need to show his talent as a coach. Your player talent level will flucuate from year to year, but good programs continue to win even with less talent, because they have great coaching.

AKA, Southlake, Katy, NorthShore, Smithson Valley and Judson.

Lufkin is prime proof of that, we may not always have the best talent, biggest or fastest kids on the field, however our coaching staff always puts our kids in the best postion to be successfull both on and off the field. That is why Lufkin is 64-8 the past 5 years, second only to Southlake in wins. We have lost to only 4 teams in 5 years, Three (3) to Southlake and Tyler Lee (district) and one (1) each to Garland and Evangel, four (4) of those are playoff losses.

The Lufkin-Longview game will be at Abe Martin because Lufkin only has 4 home games this year, so I don't see Coach Outlaw dropping a home game just to play to a larger crowd at SFA.

I hope we play Evangel at the Independence Bowl and not at their cracker box of a stadium with no parking.

This is the first time since 00 that we've played Monroe Ouachita (only 3rd time ever). We tried to schedule a ton of other people but everyone else was already booked so we had to go with them. It's only a one year deal according to the Longview News Journal. Here is what the News-Journal said about it.

Collins said the Lobos were originally scheduled to play Richardson Lake Highlands, but because Lake Highlands was placed in an eight-team district (9-5A), the school had to back out of the game.

Collins said he attempted to contact at least 12 other schools for non-district games. The search included teams that have won state titles within the past 10 years like Southlake Carroll, Texas High, Denton Ryan, Ennis, Stephenville, Hebron and Duncanville.

"We were caught unexpected in a six-team district, but I think it's a helluva schedule," Collins said.
