I am going to go with Burleson but.... They better bring their A game and avoid the upset because Weatherford is going to be ready for this one.

No way! We still have a lot of ball to play! Weatherford won't stop our offense! Not many have been able to run against our D. Paschal had to pass which I felt paschal had a better chance of beating us than Weatherford, after I watch them play NC. I take the Elks by 21, Weatherford's offense will have problem.

I agree with you Huntman,Weatherford won't stop our offense.Weatherfords style of offense plays to our defenses strength.Unless the Roos can develop a fair passing game then our defense beats their offense on paper. After the way this season has been I'm not gasing up the car and buying playoff tickets till after the game. The team is going to have to prove it on the field to Weatherford. They always play us tough there, but those tough games help you.We should be able to win by 14 to 21 points but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Burleson needs to beat Weatherford by at least 4 points to assure themselves of a playoff spot. If Haltom beats Richland for 2nd place, then Burleson, Richland, & W'ford end up tied for 3rd. Richland beat B by 7 & lost to WF by 1, making them +6. Burl. is -7 for loss to Richland. If they beat WF by 3(or less), they end up@ -4 in point differential. WF would be +1 for Richland and -3 for Burl., putting them at -2. They would get the last PO spot in that scenario. If Richland beats Haltom, winner of Burl/ WF goes to POs, no matter what the margin. Just something to think about.

Someone posted a link on one of these threads that said 3-5A used some screwed up tie breaker system instead of the traditional point diff being used in the above example. The oddball system mentioned in the article stated that Weatherford could lose by a certain amount and make the POs because the tiebreaker was so screwed up. Anyone know for sure what the tiebreaker is in 3-5A?

There is a pretty long discussion on the old coach. I see their scenerios but it is a jacked up way to determine a tie breaker. According to their anaylsis all you have to do is win. The margin of your win or your loss (whichever) will determine Weatherford's fate. Go read it. Its screwed up.

We'll see what Coach W says at booster club. I'll call my buddy and find out what he says.

Sure they passed with short crossing routes and exposed the linebackers, but they ran the ball well against us. All I can say is thank God for Blake Smith.

Not sure I would say with ease- they had a little success running the ball in the 1st half, but according to the game stats from the FW Star-Telegram, Paschal rushed 28 times for 88 yards. In the 2nd half, we pretty much shut down their running game. The main point is, Weatherford's strength is their running game- our defensive strength is run defense. We allowed 225 yds. rushing in the season opener; since then only Abilene has gained more than 148 yards on the ground against the Elks. If we hold Weatherford under 200 yds. rushing, they will have a hard time winning the game.

Burleson's defense scares me. They are better @ stopping the run than the pass, but Weatherford has good coaching. You used to be able to play assignment football against option teams, but good coaches adjust to what you are doing. One series they will use double team blocks and then the next series they switch to zone blocking. It will be a defensive mess this week. Both teams run the ball so much I think the game will be over by 9pm. Weatherford has a motivational edge because they lost big last year to Burleson and they are playing at home for a playoff spot. Whoever moves the ball better on their first 2nd half possession wins the game.

Is this game going to be on the radio, and if so, can anyone tell me what station? I would love to go, but after two weeks in a row of traveling to the D/FW area, I would love to just stay home and listen to the game. Our game this week is on Thursday, so I will have Friday off.

I've spent all week trying to decide who I want to win this game. On one hand, I want Weatherfors to win because that would send Abilene D1 and would set up a possible second round match up against Permian. We've also never been D1 before so it's a bit of a new experience. On the other hand I like Burleson a whole lot more than I like Weatherford. So part of me really wants the Elks to win. I'm still uncertain about it and I think the game will be close. Slight edge to the Roos for homefield advantage IMO.

Weatherford playing at home gives them an advantage. They last time we played @ WF, in 2007, we went in 4-1 and feeling pretty cocky. They were 1-4. It was their homecoming, and they clocked us good, 31-7. But I don't think overconfidence will be an issue this time. Both teams know a playoff spot is on the line. The Elks will have a large contingent on their side also. It will match up 3-5As two running teams, the Wing T vs. the Midline option. The teams look to be pretty evenly matched, so it will come down to who executes, turnovers, penalties, and who wants it more.

I took Burleson, wonder what the O/U will be on total pass attempts and completions. This game has the potential to be the fastest played in HS history. Plan on going to the JV game tonight, the tailback # 22 on Burl. was pretty impressive the last time I seen the JV play.

Let's go Elks, let's disappoint all those rooting against us. The offense needs to keep on doing what they have done all year-control the clock and eat up large chunks of yardage. The defense needs a few big plays- fumbles, interceptions, tackles for loss to disrupt the Roos. Should be a great game in a great atmosphere- both sides of the stands should be full. Two longtime rivals playing in a big game-Texas HS football at its finest.

I did go with a friend.. all I can say is WOW, I know it's JV competition but #22 was impressive. After watching a few Varsity games I'm at a loss as to why he's not starting TB. They might be able to cut the FB's carries down to under 30 a game with a TB like that.

Splitting time??? I would stick him in there and and he wouldn't come out unless needed. # 25 (yours?) did have a very good game and is and excellent tackler of the ball. I'll tell you the pitch man on W'Ford has pretty darn good speed also.

Three 3-5A teams tied at 3-3: Richland, Weatherford, Burleson.

If it's by points Richland and weatherford are the final 2 spots, meaning Abilene goes D1 with Haltom

Burleson lost by 7 to Richland so:

Burleson -7, NRH +7, Weatherford 0

Weatherford beat NRH by 1 so:

Burleson -7, NRH +6, Weatherford +1

Burleson beats weatherford by 3 so:

Burleson -4, NRH +6, Weatherford -2

Burleson is out if it's by points

Great game Elks! Another come from behind win- Elks get the ball at their own 20 with about 8 minutes left- trailing 27-23. They drive down, controlling the clock and score on 3rd & goal fromm the 4 with 20 seconds left. Blake Smith scored the winning Td- he scored all 4 Elk touchdowns, gained about 230 yards. Both teams scored 4 TDs. The Elks blocked Wfords 1st extra point, so they went for two after their 2nd score- the option pitch was fumbled and the Elks scooped it up and ran it in for 2- made the score 16-12 at that point. There were no completed passes for either team- 5 total by my count. Great game to watch. Elks went ahead 23-12 after a Roo turnover-interception in 3rdQ. But the Roos scored the next 15 points to go up 27-23. Great game to watch- both teams left it all on the field.
