Stoney Point loses by 7 to a pretty good team. Close game, should be rivalry. But gosh, to drop to #18! Can somebody help me understand this? I don't get!

From what ive heard from the people that attended the game, SP did not look like a top 10 team by any means. Im sure that had alot to do with the CP defense, but since they werent rotating qbs like they usually do (i guess the bigger guy was injured for this game or something) they looked extremely one dimensional on offense.

2 less then stellar games in a row, one of them a loss to a previous a previously unranked 2 loss Timberwolves team.
By the way, it's Stony Point...No "e" in there.

I thought the Admin's and STP fan Point Made explained it pretty well? Not sure I would agree completely with it either though too? But it is hard to have a team ahead of the team that just beat them? Cedar Park was previously 18 so when they moved to 17, guess where STP went.;)
Just remember rankings do not mean anything right.:)

HS football rankings are for fans....They mean nothing in the end..have no effect on playoff placement or anything else for the matter.
They give us all something to talk about and hash numbers, etc...
If they actually had meaning, like BCS rankings, this would be one heck of a mess to sort out..............

i agree. sp is always thrown away after any sign of trouble... especially after last year's waco disaster... but look at what sp did in the playoffs even after their ranking got assassinated.
don't worry about rankings, sp will prove what they can/cannot do. just like every playoff team, sp will have no one to blaim for their success or their failure, they can either show up in the playoffs or not.
so at the end of the week their rank is still in their hands if they continue to work on their mistakes.

Don't try to make sense of it! Go with the flow! Hightower started at #9 and now are # 14 and have yet to even play a close game. Just make sure the playoffs justify your complaints. Thats what I will do.

hightower is definitely serious this season. i have yet to see them stumble. i don't know what division they are this year (division 1 i think) but they are going to wreck it up either way.

Of the teams currently ranked ahead of Stony Point, only North Shore has a loss to an unranked team on their resume. They (NS) also have a win over Southlake Carroll on a neutral field, thus making it easier to consider their loss to a good unranked team as an exception, rather than the rule.
Stony Point is still a very dangerous team that's capable of living up to their recent #1 ranking, but they've obviously got some kinks to work out...better to recognize those now as opposed to a few weeks from now. Losing to CP could end up being just what they needed.
Hightower has an excellent defense, but they haven't played any high profile opponents to allow them to really shine. It's hard to know what they have right now. Sure, they smoked Elkins, but we don't really know how good they are either, since the FBISD teams only play one non-district game.
Hightower, like Stony Point, will be a difficult matchup for whoever they're paired with in the playoffs and neither team will go out easily.

we call this the PR answer
An indicator that they may have some kinks indeed, but the rankings are more a reflection of the ranker's personal biases than anything. Let's just clarify that once and for all. OBviosuly the rankers don't have an incredibly high esteem for Stony Point, unwarranted or not.

They followed up a below par showing against McNeil with a loss against Cedar Park. That is evidence of a team moving in the wrong direction. Every team has a chance to prove itself, and Stony Point did not do it. That's why I always say the rankings play themselves out.

Well ok. I understand and agree with most of the comments made on this thread, believe me, I'm a Copperas Cove BullDawg fan and we have to prove our worth every year. It just caught my eye that SP dropped 17 spots in this poll. Realizing that SP was ranked differently in other polls and they're just someone's opinion, we have to line them up and let them play. Thank goodness for that because that's how the Dawg's earn their worth. But in short, I heard from K2000 and the reasoning, so, good enough for me. It's just a poll right? Some of us are a little disappointed that we are #23. We kinda like flying under the radar and getting to the playoffs against teams who ask "Copperas Cove, who are they?". Go Dawgs! Oops! Had to come back and add this....after that big drop who would like to play them this coming week???

So is Stony Point a dangerous team or a team moving in the wrong direction? Was their showing so bad that now the pollsters on this site believe the team to have low chances in the post-season? Really? Really??
I'm not a Stony Point fan by any stretch, but I find a significantly precipitous drop after a close loss to be suspect.

If you look at what built up to the loss, as I explained with the McNeil game, the drop isn't surprising. A loss is a step in the wrong direction, but you can't completely rule them out until the playoffs say they can't come back and do it again next week.
Based on how Stony Point looks right now, I am not confident in their ability to win what will be a very tough Region 2 bracket. However, that obviously doesn't mean they won't show up and have a go anyway. That's why they play the games.
