However...the NCAA will probably just restrict their scholarships...and say they can't play in any bowl games.

restricting scholarships just deprives kids in Texas of a free education. I hope that they do not do that. As much as a do not like Aggy, I cannot deny that getting an education is very important even if it is there.

I had to read it a bunch of times. I was like this kid is going to college. He must be smarter than that. His brother is there too. The way I read the quote is that it did not sound like the hundred dollar handshakes that an alumnus would give you. This sounded like some serious dough.

You need to brush up on NCAA rules as you are obviously not familiar with what ALL is involved financially with a "full" athletic scholarship. Players receive money (stipends) to pay for books, housing, food, .... The amount of money each athlete receives is based upon NCAA guidelines which have latitude as the costs are not the same from school to school. IF a player can find cheaper housing, food, .... than what is "allowed", the player can pocket the difference. There is also money allocated for road games and a player can pocket some money here too if he/she is frugal.

Some people need to do a lot more studying before jumping to conclusions based upon a newspaper quote

that is actually the most logical answer provided on Texags. Most of the people are like, "well every team cheats." "college players get payed all the time" "All of the top 25 schools could be investigated and found to be cheated"

It does not surprise me that players have "plenty" of money in their pockets. It has been well-documented that campuses all over the nations have football players that live in very low income housing and are allowed to keep massive percentages of their stipends. It is a dirty trick and I disagree with it, but it is not technically illegal.

The statement, "They take care of you down there", implies that they do a better job of it than elsewhere........that something extra that the other schools can't or won't do is being done there. Heck, his brother told him so. Pretty good source of how good it is there. The kid was bragging about his new sweet deal that he got, and got to see first hand how well his brother was treated. His implication of "extra" treatment is very clear. This has little to do with stipends and living allowances, since all D-1 colleges can do those things.

Wake up and smell the coffee.........or is that an investigation I smell.

I'm really sorry, but some kids are just too f'n stupid. No, this is not illegal, but what kind of mental midget drops a line like that to the local rag? Fran has to be freakin' out. He was last spotted in the bowels of DKR-East hiding his 4 ton stash of Little Debbies so the NCAA doesn't try and take them away.

All that being said, you know there is some serious tracking going on of every FedEx box to leave collie station. Especially those that look like they may have zebra cake smudges on them.

I really don't think that Fran would cheat. I mean he has already proven that he can suck at every aspect of coaching and not lose his job. Why would he want to cheat? I mean that is probably one of the only ways that he can get fired without keeping his two million a year.
