I've got to believe that The Woodlands High School will have a pretty good shot at going deep into the playoffs in '06 with all of the returning players from '05. I caught the Huntsville game and was really impressed with two players who will be returning as seniors, Taylor Skaufel and Ryan Costello. Skaufel has tremendous speed, a great eye for the field and could spell the difference between a win or a loss. Costello can handle his own and with another year as a starter under his belt he should be the anchor of the offensive line. I assume that both will be targets of college recruiters if they can stay healthy.

I would say on paper we do. However, If our Offense doesn't get ALOT better we have have another year when people say "They are overrated."
I am getting tired hearing that! Looks like we have a fairly easy District run (minus Lufkin) so I hope your right.

Skaufel and Castello are great players. But they really lost the heart of the defensive when Carpenter JR SS and Blake Hinton SR were lost to injury. Carpenter will come back next year and will be a big part of already exceptional D.

If Carpenter and Hinton played in that game DAD we would have played alot better.
Trust me, Our Offense needs help. We WILL have a good Defense this year.

We missed those two all district defensive players in that playoff game they would have made a big differnce.
The game would have looked different if we had punched in our first 2 possesions for TD's instead of settling for FGs and the 2 call backed plays in 2nd quarter. We didn't do it your D stopped us. (The out of bound run play that was for a TD and the illegal OL downfield)
The score would have been 21 to 6 at half. A&M game plan would changed from running the ball to trying to throw the ball.
You have to admit 10 yard out to your D1 WR got old.
No excuses, but your coaches did have those ref's in his back pocket. If you look at the film there was no illegal OL downfield on that TD pass to Drbek. You're coach was yelling at the ref all the way down field on that play. Unit he threw the late flag.
That was then and this is now. It's over and no excusues...Believe me THHS D will kick *** next year.

What's done is done. The objective is the brass ring...state champs... and that is an arduous task, for any team, including The Woodlands.
I am not familiar with Carpenter but understand that Hinton, who is a junior now, may have suffered a pretty serious injury to his knee. Wonder if that is the case and how rehab is coming along.
I saw Smithson Valley in a playoff game and they walked all over some team from El Paso. The underclassmen on the sidelines were huge and they may have a bit of an advantage over most teams in their division. I would still give the edge to The Woodlands in September based solely upon the strength of their D backs.
Will The Woodlands have anything to show with their running game or will they be a passing offense? The QB is big enough to throw down field but does he have any touch on the short pass and is he mobile enough to avoid an aggressive defensive line??? Saw a lot of passes thrown to the same two receivers. I think one was Drabeck who will be graduating.

The D
The JR Hinton#90 will be ready he has a strong work ethic. As far as Carpenter#8 is concern he's one of the best players on the team tough, very football savy, he was second on team in tackles and he missed 3 games! (shoulder injury almost 100%)
WRs
The Woodlands have a highly recurited 2year letterman in Grote#5 6'2 195. I think he's better then Dez Byrant of Lufkin. He's going to be the go to guy. McKey#88 is the 6'6" 220 slot/TE everybody hopes his number is called next season. Mooney#10 a part time varsity/JV WR may have the best hands on the team 6' 170 and can run. D.Wyatt #3 an all district 300 hurdler with D1 size and speed(also is a back-up QB. Gullo a tough underclassman that works hard. From there we have a sophmore may not play on the varsity this coming year but I've seen as a freshman goes up for the ball like Dola in 03.
QB
Parsons #18 the QB is big and a very hard worker. He needs to improve his foot work and get the ball off more quickly. He has a strong arm and most of all he's leader. He got over 150 snaps behind center last year and learned a lot and he'll be protected by a very good big line anchored by Costello #606'2 245.
RB
The running game will be the big question mark. Milo 6' 210 would have played on the varsity last year if the district hadn't placed a restriction on him. He was a interdistrict transfer from Conroe to TWHS. Conroe has the right to limit his play to sub varsity. He's quick and powerful. Skaufel #20 is the 3 year letterman, D1 6'1" 200, safety(lead the team with tackles 75+) that had over 3,000 yards rushing his freshman year may see sometime in the backfield.
Others
There are many other talented kids in this program that will contribute ie the kicker Depasquale #37 was an all district selection and kicked 4 or 5 FGs over 37 yrds last year.
Only time will tell

I don't want to get into a pissing match with you on this one, but I just can't resist. You use the words no excuses a few times but you make excuses.
I'll counter your two missing D guys with our missing Jr. Tailback who was All-District his Soph year. So, I guess it was our back up tail backs who ran over your back up Defenders. Our misdirection offense had your linebackers and linemen so confused they didn't know who to tackle. Our O Line manhandled your D consistently in the 2nd half and for much of the 1st half.
Your offense was a lot of fun to watch. They are a talented crew. I just simply stated that your D needs improvement for next year.
I have a photo that shows the out of bounds foot on the line. This is fun. You guys did win halftime. I'll give you that one.
Either way, some calls go against you, some go for you. It's part of the game.
It was a fun game to watch. I hope both teams have the chance to meet in the playoffs again.

The WEAK 6 team district is dominated by Lufkin (the favorite again) and TWHS (the wannabe).....Conroe is predictable but should be third and the fourth spot (who cares) is a toss up....I give the edge to Magnolia. Depending upon non district schedule a team could end up 2-8 or even 1-9 and make the playoffs......YUK.
You know these all district honors that keep being mentioned in previous posts are a farce. Drabek was given 1st D all district punter honors and barely played all year missing the bulk of the season. Many of the other selections were questionable including the QB receiving 1st team honors.....wow!
Breaking down the Woodlands "D" you have this:
1 D line starter returning...Hinton
3 part time starter LB's....Bouthela.....limited play, Cleboski and Beller.....50% perhaps.
2 safeties.....Skaufel.....best player and the only true D1 prospect probably....Carpenter....played well until injured...weak on the pass
2 corners....Charbonnet and Lake who are good on the run and ? on the pass.
So real starter experience TWHS has 5 returning full time D players.....and a host of maybe's......the D will be quick, but their ability to cover and stop a power offense is still in doubt.
I agree with Duke that the O is where TWHS problems begin......rush the QB and you will force turnovers......they have no answer for a blitz other than a draw. Predictable O gives predictable results in games where TWHS is faced with an opponent of equal or greater in talent....usually it's a loss. Every game TWHS lost last year was due to the mistakes of the inept "O". The receiving corps is marginal at best......sure one of them will have a lot of catches but that's because the QB either doesn't have time to look for or is singulary focused on one........the RB Milo looks good and could be the godsend for this team if he hits stride......the O line faces a complete rebuild....Costello is good with average size.....the rest is to be determined......playing Katy, Northshore and Smithson Valley will help, but a very, very weak district will hurt TWHS chances of going far......they should go to the 3rd round.....unless ACM is in the picture.....oops.

ACM owns TWHS.....as does Lufkin, Northshore, Katy and any other schools with similar talent and coaching........enjoy whooping *** in a pansy filled district that you only need to win two games in to make the playoffs.....go cry yourself a river WoodlandsBiggestFan......6-4 (2-3 nondistrict against competition;4-1 district against the district weaklings) and an early exit from the playoffs for you again.....depending upon bi-district and the D1/D2 numbers game you could go to the third round game in the playoffs. Westfield vs TWHS 1st round would be something.

Sub 4.7. Once he gets going...
He needs to get quicker feet and throwing release.
He's one of the hardest workers out there...May not be as acurate as Dalton (Dalton was the best QB in Houston last year that includes Clayborn), but he'll lead his team and will get the job done.
Some may think the WRs are underrated but they're a fast, good size and can catch it, if thrown too.

qb parsons does NOT run a sub 4.7 40 time!!! and although he has the potential to be an above average qb, he definately needs to work alot this summer- timing, footwork, keeping poised in the pocket, making right reads, etc. and unfortunately (unless another hurricane hits) woodlands will not have a rb like montague, smalls, or burns to take the burdon of parsons shoulders.also needs HUGE targets like mckey to step up.

Parsons doesn't look it but he can move and he's mobile enough. He's a classic drop back. A Ben Roethlisberger type. But, Duke said it, he needs to feel the pocket. Parsons is going to surprise some people.
As far as the running attack Smalls, Montague and Burns although talented runners gave up the ball way to much. In the last 2 years we had several goal line fumbles, NS, Katy, Lufkin bad. I would rather have a solid sound RB that can catch the ball out of the back field, block, and depend on in short down situations to make the yardage.
The big plays will be to our WRs.

You all might want to take a look back to the start of that streak, 5-5 that's a heck of a way to storm into the playoffs. TWH (or should I say CTWH) has always benefited from a week district, hence an 11-year streak and numerous early exits.

the team in 2004 was very good, but not elite.
That game against LP at Conroe was awesome, even if LP had more fans!
One side note, I think most people probably know this already, and I'm not trying to start anything, but my 7 year old son asked me at that game," Why are there only 4 white guys on Lufkin and 4 black guys on the Woodlands?" I told him it didn't really matter, but both were good teams. It was very funny.
Another note from that game, they said Conroe's stadium hadn't had that many people in it(old or new) since Earl Campbell was at Tyler and came calling.
2005 team was not up to the Highlanders usual standard, even though they made the playoffs. The district was pretty weak and it showed in the playoffs, even with LP struggling to get into playoff mode the first 2 rounds.

If the woodlands schools pulled out their tax base alone would put them up over state limits, forcing them to doll out the precious green to the less fortunate.

The deal with the starting QB is he is a coaches son. He played alot last year but I remember more bad plays then good. We do have another kid who I think is a better athlete and he will play if the other plays bad. I am not comfortable with either yet but that is all we got.
Not sure about Shore this year but it would be nice to get some revenge! We are playing this game on the road which is almost as loud as playing at Lufkin so that isn't good news.

First of all whether he played football at Conroe or not has no bearing on his football knowledge. For whatever reason he chooses to support them. I enjoy the debate and rivalry, if it could only translate to the field again. If it would then 14-5a might be a heck of a dogfight. The Duke is right, in that College Park will be the woodlands new rival and it will be huge when they beat the woodlands for the first time. Conroe will continue to zero in on the woodlands and when they win the feelings will be mutual once again. Trust me.
An example, 3-5a is one of the best in the state but until the last 6 years when Abilene beat Cooper, Odessa beat Permian and Midland beat Lee. It was all one sided. The tide has turned out west and could happen here. As for now everyone except Magnolia is focusing in on someone else.

Marshall?
That was the next year.
When you lose your starting QB, CB, ILB, and FB in one week your Offense and Defense doesn't have much time to recover. Not to mention a fumble recovery on a field goal that should have been called back.
Besides, that QB for Marshall was like Mike Vick!!

Actually Mike Vick (aka Ron Mexico) would have been about 10 at the time, so the guy from Marshall would be the comparison. But, that guy wasn't that good so no excuses. Besides, you need to get your dates strait Marshall won 20-10 in the 1993 playoffs. So maybe you don't actually know much about that fight after all.
