Interracial couple in Louisiana denied marriage license
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- Civil rights advocates in eastern Louisiana are calling for a justice of the peace of Tangipahoa Parish to resign after he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple.
...
Bardwell didn't immediately return calls from CNN on Thursday.
However, Bardwell told Hammond's Daily Star newspaper that he was concerned for the children who might be born of the relationship and that, in his experience, most interracial marriages don't last.
"I'm not a racist," Bardwell told the newspaper. "I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house. My main concern is for the children."
Bardwell, stressing that he couldn't personally endorse the marriage, said his wife referred the couple to another justice of the peace.

C'mon. you cant basically label an entire area that way...
That would be like me saying that Dallas is full of skinheads. I know there are quite a few skinheads in the DFW area, but that doesnt mean that DFW is a haven for skinheads or would be a skinhead community... A few bad apples cannot be allowed to represent an entire area.

Racism has (and prolly will) always existed on both sides. People using the Obama being elected thing as a sign of no racism is funny to me though. I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic (no , so I'm not sure).

you are right, and you also might agree that these apples haven't changed much in your lifetime either, have they? the piney woods of et and west la are not a hotbed for liberal, austinish thinking.

not much like Austin in those areas. but I would say that a lot of thinking has changed in my lifetime. As much as it needs to? not so much. But there has been progress.
NorthWest Louisiana has had a lot of changes. I still see it as negative though. In Shreveport, you have many more situations of people openly hating on white people. It wasnt like that when I was a kid. It was a good deal of the other way around then. 2 wrongs dont make a right though.
As far as outright stamping out racism, I dont think I'll live to see those days. It seems as though there has been some form of it going on for as far back has men have had different colored skin than the next guy.

.......it would be hair color or religion if we all were the same color.
Some folks will find anything to ostracize anyone who doesn't look like themself or who they "wanna be".

yeah, I agree.
It sucks that it's that way. I was thinking I'd read something the other day online where they were studying why people are like that. I need to go back and see all the stuff I've looked at this week.
The human mind is an interesting device. Scary. but interesting just the same.

Just the people on 5A. I believe they're the only ones that bring it up on a daily basis.

It does seem to be brought up more often by those who disagree with him.
Same mantra, "Yeah I can't disagree or I am a racist".

Here is just one story about comments and thoughts by Democrats thinking the disagreement has to do with race. I have not heard one Republican ever say Obama cannot lead because he is black.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27120.html
So please it is out there and IMO it is just silly. Do some not like him because he is black? Yes, and that is sad for them. I will say that the two biggest racists I know are both staunch democrats and they are not happy with Obama but would not vote for a Republican.

I will add Harry Reid and Jimmy Carter to the list of people that believe our disagreement has to do with race as well as that silly woman that called the Tea baggers rednecks and racist.

Yes we still have a long ways to go but I do not think it is a Democrat or Republican issue it is an issue that needs to be knocked down when it arises by Americans.
This "judge" needs to go.
