Look out for those Feisty Nightbirds from Rice University.

obviously, his buddy Todd Dodge has helped new O.C. Major Applewhite with his recruiting.....to go along with that Spring Westfield QB, now Rice has landed three Carroll Dragons....Safety Joseph Agnew and wide receivers Evan Fentriss and Corbin Smiter.....plus I'm sure Dodge pointed him in the direction of Grapevine WR Taylor Wardlow....and they also have Ennis WR Andrew Novack.

For any of you who saw Corbin Smiter and Taylor Wardlow play, how could they be so low-rated?----to answer my own question, in the case of Smiter, I know he didn't play until his senior year, but if any of these college recruiters actually watched these guys play, their potential at the next level is unmistakeable.....

Rice will be very young next year but look out for that offense in a couple of years!

I bet Carroll will be sending a few players a year to rice as the new coach is going to run a similair offense to what Carroll runs now. Also Applewhite's mother teaches at Johnson Elementary (a school within the Carroll district) and the Applewhites and Dodges are pretty good friends.

They missed the boat on Will Thompson from Katy! What Rice needs is "football PLAYERS" not guys with a bunch of stars after their name from Rivals! The Westfield QB, the SC receivers, and the SV DB are great pick-ups but don't overlook the orchids while searching for a rose!

I've never been a big Rice follower, but that is about to change. Not just because of SC players that will be there but moreso because I'm a Major Applewhite fan. How many players in a program with the national recognition that UT has would accept the team role as starting QB their Jr year and then play backup to an underclassman his Sr year. Then go in to the Big XII Championship game and come off the bench and dang near pull it out against Colorado...and then to top that off stay at that university as a grad assistant. It's as though you couldn't pile enough adversity on Applewhite to defeat his purpose.

Major Applewhite = Character and Integrity.

Good Luck Owls

PS...Dragondaddy, wonder if they might be looking for any LB's with a year of D2 under thier belt.

I though Major was hired as the QB coach. You mean he's already got a raise?

BDC,

My bad. So he was. Nothing (that I could find) on Rice's site, but TOC confirms Major's dual role.

Good luck to him and Rice.

Looks like the pipeline is set. Heard Rice coach on afternoon sports talk show and he verified his relationship with SLC coach. The coach made a great impression. In talking with a friend of mine, we agreed that Rice Football is going to be fun in the next couple of years. Looking forward to it.

It's going to be fun watching Rice over the next few years and see if they (new coaches) and elevate the program a notch.

It would be cool to see Rice make a few lower tier Bowl games or even compete for the Conference Title every now and then.
