I'm putting this here since we don't have a hockey forum. The Stars are 10-2 in overtime this year, including 8-0 in shootouts. Jussi Jokinen is 8-8 in shootouts this year, which is crazy! Those extra 10 points are going to come in handy for home ice during the playoffs. Too bad they don't have shootouts in the playoffs or 4 on 4 in overtime.

How do they break the ties in the playoffs? Do they just keep playing overtime periods until someone wins?

I like the shootouts in the reg season, but no way in the playoffs. Too much is riding on every possession to let the whole thing end on a shootout.
It has taken me this long to get back into NHL. We love to go to Houston Aeros games, but the TV games just haven't done it for me. Guys have switched teams so much, they all lost their personality during the strike.
In hockey it helps to have someone to hate when your team plays them.
I also miss the hitting that seems to have disappeared. I like the "no-clutching",but you still gotta hit someone when they have the puck!
Stars have been unbelievable. Turco is making it fun to watch the stars again, regardless of the offense.

Yep, they keep playing 20 minute overtimes until somebody wins. After a while, I start rooting for them to break that almost 6 complete overtimes record. I've sat and watched games into the 5th overtime in the past.

I started out as an Edmonton Oiler fan in the early 80's and like the open ice style of play. I hated the clutching and grabbing in spite of it being good to the Stars.
That salary cap is what made everybody switch teams. They had to cut a bunch of guys to get under the cap.
I still hate Colorado and I'll always hate Detroit. I don't like the Sharks or Coyotes, either.
I had an Aeros jersey made while I lived in Korea. I like their uniforms as an Air Force guy.

i like watching hockey, its just rather boring on tv, which i think is the problem with the NHL, its insanely hard to follow that puck, its traveling at high speeds and the camera guys cant move that fast..i really think if hockey was 'made for tv' itd draw a lot more at the games..just my opioion..i think changeing color of puck/ice may be helpful..heard about how they tryed out blue ice in some college game or something not to long ago, heard it helped tremendosly

I've always been a huge Stars fan and of hockey in general. Ive watched most of the games at home like normal, but ive already been to more games this season than I have in the past 10. And I might have to go buy some playoff tickets for the first time ever.
I would love to see different color ice/puck combinations to help tv spectators. Maybe with all the HD TV innovations comming out, we can get a better picture that will allow people @ home to follow the puck easier as well.

yea i used to play hockey and it's more fun to play than watch and everything i mean to most of us we just see men taking a puck back and forth, but to those who played it's more, for us it's getting the puck making sure the oposition isn't about to cross check us in the back faking the D out and trying to get the goal getting the puck back in face off (i had a 95% on claiming the puck :) ) personally even though i like football more hockey imo is rougher. Yea those day's of hockey are gone now :(

how do you know where a play is going in the NFL. You watch the guards...
How do you know where the puck is, follow the fight!!!
Black puck on white ice, it doesn't get much clearer than that.
Live games are 20X better than TV.

They already tried the glowing puck on TV and all the old-time fans hated it and they got rid of it. If you have a basic understanding of hockey, you know where the puck is going. They dump the puck in corners and most of the time, it's on the opposite side of the ice. The benefit of crossing passes is that it makes the goalie move across the ice. Not only can you get a teammate to shoot the puck to where the goalie is moving to, but he can also shoot it back where the goalie was, or shoot it between his legs (5-hole) as he's moving. You know the defensive team will dump the puck into the opponents end of the ice to get a line change.
If everybody went to one game and sat with a person who understands hockey, they could watch it on TV and enjoy for the rest of their lives. Hockey and soccer are the easiest games to understand, but people just don't get exposed to them as much.

They put black tape on the sticks so the goalie can't see the puck as quickly and they have a better chance to score. They'd use blue tape if you had a blue puck.

How could you win 95% of the faceoffs? The best guys in the NHL are lucky to average 60%.

I've been watching hockey on TV my whole life, and have never had a problem knowing exactly where the puck is going to be. My post was trying to solve one of the biggest problems for new spectators, which other than not knowing any of the rules, is not being able to follow the puck while @ home. I personally wouldnt want them to change the Ice coloring/puck coloring, but I didnt know they already tried to change it up a bit, and failed.
Hockey is my favorite sport other than College Football. And I'm glad to see it bouncing back quicker than most experts were predicting.

We were mites i think and by that i meant when they dropped the puck you could garuntee that it was already mine before it hit the ice besides in NHL those player's are alot better than Pee wee's mites n squirts etc

I thought I liked hockey until I went to a live Stars game. Then i was bitten by the bug. Playoff hockey is even better! It definately gets me through most of the offseason until pigskin cranks up again!
Minor league games can be better than the pros. A little bit rougher, and you can count on at least 2-3 fights! I have been to Lubbock, Amarillo, Houston, and Shreveport games. They are alot of fun, and great for the family!

Agreed. Ive watched Stars games my whole life, and nothing compares to watching games live... I've seen more games this season live (5), than I have the whole rest of my life. Im thinking of getting a playoff package. Are they worth it?

Wait until you start watching a game that ends at 2 in the morning! You'll be dragging the next day, but you won't go anywhere. Me and my buddy missed all 3 periods of the Caps-Pens in 1996 and turned on the TV in my dorm room. He said he wasn't going anywhere until the game was over and it ended at 2 A.M. We almost went to that game and I had to work the next day and would've gotten home about 3:30 A.M.
Thankfully, most of the rest of my 4 and 5 OT games happened while I was in Korea and Afghanistan and I got to watch or listen to 7 hours of hockey during the middle of the workday.

You better believe it. I love playoff hockey. I don't know about this year, but in the distant past, the Stars weren't bad about really jacking up the price for each round. I think they got a little crazy right before the strike, but they may be OK this year.

No problem. I think the biggest problem is they don't understand the basic concepts of what the players are trying to do and that always makes it harder to follow the puck. The camera does lose sight of the puck and sometimes you really look for where it's going vs. where it is at the time.
