Amazing to me the kid has not already committed to UT. They run the spread, he could potentially start 3+ years. He already knows how to gain 100 yards on ten carries.
UT has become running back Hades I guess.

He fits the speed profile Miami likes, and the Hurricane offense would give him the chance to be a downhill runner in a pro offense. I think his ability is limited by only running from the shotgun. There are detractors who don't think Lasco is a college running back, but I disagree.
I flew to Houston from Miami in August and there was a Miami coach/recruiter on the plane.

To each his own... I have family in both areas. Miami is a high energy type of place... speed limit signs and turn blinkers serve no purpose in Miami. They both have their pros and cons.

Very good point. Miami isn't loaded with RBs, so he'd likely play.
Plus, who WOULDN'T want to live in South Florida?! And play for a team that, over most of the past 30 years, has been a dominant powerhouse? And who puts so many players into the pros...

Miami itself isn't much to write about, but there are obviously very nice areas around it. Miami is on the low end of major D1 schools as far as facilities go. I think Randy Shannon can get the program back to a respectable level and they finally found an OC.

SP beat TWH O line and as a result Lasco could not get open --therefore SP shut him down --- no matter how good he is -- he cant do it by himself -- that is why football is a team sport --unfortunetly in that game the TWH passing game wasnt working either -- that is why TWH went home & SP advanced
hey --- PATITAN --are you listening -- a good team shut down TWH and Lasco last year ( does that mean PAM isnt a good team ????? )
Have a better O line this year --- hope the results are different if SP & TWH meet again --hopefully the story will be different

Daniel is just a junior so he has a long way to go before making his mind up. Like KT2000 said, some don't think he'll make a really effective college back. Like KT2000, I do.
Detractors probably don't like his upright/erect running style. He's not a slash or juke-type back...like the "quick" ones that leave guy's jockstraps and jaws laying on the turf after jumping two yards sideways, at full speed, in midstride.
He's more of a "space" runner...not needing too terribly much distance between him and a defender to let his vision, strength, angles and speed separate him from the pack. I equate him to a guy that went to Ohio State back in the early 90's and played for several years with the Vikings...Robert Smith. Somebody once called Smith "Like Eddie George with another gear." Many of you may not remember Eddie George (or Robert Smith , for that matter), but he was another great Ohio State back and a storied pro player. They don't look that great on four, five, maybe six carries in a row...but then....on the seventh play...HE'S GONE to the house!
Daniel has the right tools. One of his best assets is his field vision...he sees the field and has continually improved at reading the action. He finds daylight. He's also become more patient, waiting for his blockers to help break open plays. He anticipates the action.
He's gotten stronger too. He has a frame that can handle 215 quite easily. Good work ethic as well.
He's humble. Although I don't know Daniel very well, he's always been very polite and well-spoken when I speak to him. He praises his teammates and takes his share of the blame. It's not all about Dan...it's about winning and it's about Team. He enjoys the game...he enjoys his teammates.
And for those that have not seen him...he's really, really fast...fast on any level. It's scary fast...1 in a million (or at least several hundred thousand, lol).
Wherever he goes to school, they'll get a talented, good kid. So please wish him well and hope he stays healthy and happy. Watch him grow...another great player and fine person from the Great State of Texas.

Yep. Ran for over 180 yards in a must win game the week before. Busted a long one pretty quick. Then went to play Westfield the next week and had over 200 in that one.

actually he played 2nd half of last regular season game then started the one playoff game his freshman year --total for the 2 games --- 241 yds
he had 1120 yds his soph year ( 12 games )
so far in his jr year ( 5 games ) he has about 780 yds --he has sat out a total of about 5 qtrs in blow-outs

I'd take him on the speed alone, but I think he also moves better laterally than he's given credit for. He also has good receiving skills.
He can be taught technique as far as running lower in that first 5-10 yards goes. His natural physical talents can't be taught, however, and that's what's most intriguing.

I believe the UM campus itself is located in a nice part of the Miami area. And there are quite a few nice places in and around Miami-Dade that a place like Austin just cannot match particularly if you look at it from an 18-19 y/o standpoint.

Aside from salty water and Cuban eats, there is nothing down there you wouldn't also find in Austin. Very few places match Austin as a college environment.
UCLA, Palo Alto, Ole Miss, and Chapel Hill are the only ones that come to mind immediately.

I'm trying to preach to Daniel about the fine scenery in Lubbock but he keeps asking how far the beach is from campus...
Of course Buffalo Lake's banks are pretty close but I can't get Google to give me the distance from the Will Rogers statue! And it's probably no more than 2.75 hours to Lake Meredith!

He'd be a nightmare running in the lanes Tech's alignment produces. Lasco has the receiving skills to fit that offense's requirements of an RB. I saw Baron Batch in HS, and I think Lasco is a better prospect.

True. A lot would depend on the individual and what suits his persona. Miami is not for everybody.

I agree fully with the carnage he could add up there. A lotta folks didn't think Dan had good hands when a freshman, but I think he'd do quite nicely in a receiving role. If Heyward-Bey can improve, so could Daniel. And the lanes they make up there in Lubbock would scare the bejeebers outta some safeties when Lasco hit high gear, which takes about three steps.

I understand why you would say that. But let me tell you from experience...it's an absolutely great college town.
And so you know for a fact...and tell'em you heard it here first:
There are
no prettier women
in a college town than those from
Texas Tech University
in Lubbock, Texas.
I don't know if it's the water, the wind, the sun, the change of seasons or the fresh air (cattle dung smells like money, honey) ...but man there are some positively stunning young ladies there. And what they do with denim makes a young man dance!

austin is one helluva college town, and they don't get much better than it. but, the lure of playing in south beach and all that comes with it would be more alluring to a recruit IMO. plus, it's FLORIDA. a texas kid gets to go out of state, to a state that has a ton to offer. either way, you can't go wrong with either place...besides the whole "ut" thing.

Lasco is a WR playing RB. Just look at his physique, he's built like a slot receiver. Or better yet, he's an all-purpose back.
Look at Sam McGuffie. He was fast, and shifty with a good vertical. He too played RB in high school. Guess what position he plays now? WR.
I personally think Lasco would be an even bigger threat as a WR. I'm not sure his body would take the pounding as an every down back in college, let alone in the NFL.

I've been to both, was genuinely surprised and impressed with manhattan. Went to school in lubbock so I know what the best thing there is...good people, the best I've ever met.
I really think most college/universities and their towns have more to offer than a kid can really absorb...so things like scenery and atmosphere add a lot to a kid's decision. Fact is, some people go to Boulder and never go skiing...some go to Austin and never go to 6th Street or Lake Travis, some go to Boston College and never eat on the wharf. Some kids just go to school. Some go to school and play sports. And when you play sports there is generally not enough time or money to do the things they think they'd like to do. So kids gowhere you feel welcomed, a place where you feel people appreciate and genuinely care you (most will act like it initially), a place you can learn and most of all a place where you can grow as a person and contribute to your life and maybe even the lives of others.
And for the record, about every kid that went to Tech went to The Strip.
