For the Carroll fans that haven't been around very long a brief but to the point summary of our history. Those long time fans please feel free to fill in the details I've left out:
88,92,93.......................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..................01,02,04,05,06 State Title years. Notice the gap between 93 and 01. For those of you that don't know it was between these years our program spiraled out of control into a black hole never to return to excellence again!!!! Oh wait never mind we did return and won several games...in a row 4 of which were State Titles! (Only 3 of those were back to back to back) Who remembers the Rapp years... yeah me too. What if TD was only as successful at Carroll as he was prior to coming to Carroll... For those of you that don't know his record outside of Carroll was well... ok, but not stellar. I believe he had roughly a 58% winning percentage prior to Carroll. (FYI Hal's is well above that) His first season at Carroll was ok... Would we view what Wasson has done a little differently had TD not had the success he did? For those that insist to live in the past: News Flash - TD is never coming back, and in case you didn't notice LED is gone and Line coaches up the road... I hear he's had some success at this little school called Trinity;). Point being the tradition is not just about winning state titles it is the pride the community has for their schools, for academics and athletics. BTW between 93 and 01 academically we fell into a black hole... none of our students or student athletes graduated HS, none of them continued on to college and none them did anything with their lives. It wasn't until Dodgeball that all that changed!!!! SERIOUSLY it's one game against a top rated team in the best football state in the country! If you're here just for the band wagon jump ship now cause you will never be satisfied. Support the team, the coaches, teachers, the students! That's the Tradition.

Great post SLCfan. BTW you do still another Lineweaver coaching up there right? I have a question for SLC fans, and please understand I mean no disrespect to your excellent program. Do y'all feel like the team would be any different than it is now if Dodge had never left? It's just a curiosity question.

SLCFan, it sounds like you're trying to say something good with the post, but this part is one of the dumbest things anyone's written. Why would you say that during those years, no one graduated, no one continued to college, and no one did anythig with their lives? Rediculous and makes you sounds like a bitter fool. Good post and good words. I would feel the same way if and when Aymond leaves NS. This was 2 great teams butting heads. There had to be a winner and a loser. This game by no means says SLC is on the way down. You will have the one time band wagoneers jumping on and off but truthfully, you support your team win or lose and the loyal SLC fans have been rewarded well over the years. There are several state trophies in SLC's display case.

UUMMMMM yes of course. Nothing against coach Wasson but some coaches are better than others. TD was amazing, a Stud, a once in a lifetime type guy, so it is not a fair measuring stick. I feel for the guy that replaces coach Lineweaver if he has what is viewed as a sub par game.

Great post!! Losing is hard, especially for those teams and fans who have a streak of winning and not losing much at all. In those kinds of programs, I think the boys on the field take the loss easier than the fans do sometimes. At least they know they have to learn from it, not dwell on the loss, and get ready for the next opponent. Fans, however, just hang onto the grief until the next win comes along.
However, I would rather have fans who feel that kind of passion for a team than to see a team who hardly has any fans in the stands.

fify. no 01 title. too much ennis. otoh, i agree with the overall tenor. recent fans were spoiled by the then unheard of success provided by the perfect storm that was 02-06. all storms subside, but vigilance and a striving for excellence, which i must presume is still happening. will be something with which the boys, their parents and we fans will not only enjoy, but demand, now and in later endeavors. keep up the good fight. kill the will. these things will lead to success now, then and in the future.

I was in 6th grade and just starting to pay attention to football in 02.
I was big time spoiled. I was at Carroll for 2 years and never saw a loss. I believe DB06 was the one who missed the 03 title game, so never saw a loss in 4 years at Carroll.

I fully agree with the title post here but I dont think any SLC fans are going to commit suicide. It's just a game and people discuss those games. If criticism is merited then so be it within good taste. It's pretty tough to talk shop if all you have to say is 'good game and what a pretty day it is'.
One thing about these message boards is that the written text usually conveys the worst and most confrontational context.:)

I agree. As the interweb puts everything out there instantly for all to see, it is hard to discuss something without one side or the other taking offense. It use to be that the old guys/fans would get together at the local coffee / donut shop on a Saturday morning and re-hash every play as if they had something to do with it...now it is us!:p Right or wrong, if we stop discussing football this board goes away...Well maybe not the yard..:D

Yeah, the bad thing about the donut shop crowd is that there is always that one blowhard that loves to talk and hates to listen. When you talk, their knee is bouncing up and down a hundred miles an hour and theyre saying yea, yea, yea a mile a minute to get you to shut up.
And when they butt in their knee stops going up and down and they blah-blah -blahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never meant to not discuss it... really just meant in the big scheme of things we've lost games in the history of our program... I'm just sick of when we lose people calling for the coaches' head... He's a good coach and probably a better man. It sucks to think that because he has lost a handful of games he may lose his job... He is a good coach and as I said probably a better man. Here's the thing, I've heard and seen plenty of comments about the 2 QB keepers and the QB option from the 2 yd line before half... My question is how well was our passing game working yesterday. I'd say it was off a bit. So do you go with what has been working... the running game or do you risk it. We as fans may not have liked the decision... but based on how our passing game was to that point, it was probably the correct call... I'm just saying...

Hal Wasson has done a fine job of carrying on the great program that Dodge established in his tenure but I compare him to Mike Tomlin of the Steelers. Mike Tomlin is a decent coach in my mind, but in all honesty he only took the reins of a team that Bill Cower spent most of his NFL career building up with talented athletes. Much can be said about Hal taking over for Dodge. I wasn't sure how or if he would continue to thrive on Dodge's dynamic spread offense that he instituted there but has done so valiantly. There was certainly an enormous amount of pressure on Hal when he took over for such a successful football program, but to his credit I think he has done a great job! Sure he hasen't led SLC to undefeated state title winning seasons yet, but he has kept them has a playoff contender for the last 3 seasons. I think it is in this season onward that he can prove his mark on the SLC legacy and attempt to keep SLC's title hunt alive.

Honest answer is, this team would be better if Dodge hadn't left.

We have a running back, in fact a few of them, and they ran well, I'm just saying.
Some blunders happend on the field, on the sidelines and in the booth. Plenty of room for improvement in all 3 areas.
I agree... I heard a lot if negative comments at and after the game. It just frustrating to hear it all when it is just one game against a great team. I personally think we will be fine and yes I mistakenly typed 01 must have had number 8 on the mind... Ha ha ha

Wasson stepped into a position that was a tought one. Go undefeated and win a title, and people really are not that impressed. SLC had come to expect that. Loose, and you had better look for an escape route.
Dodge did a fantastic job. Dont know records but doubt there are many HS coaches in the country that have accomplished what he did at SLC.
SLC will always be a solid program. But as I said in the other thread, the days of SLC domination are over. Way to much talent and great teams in the state. That statement is not directed to disrespect SLC at all. I just dont see any in the state making the run that SLC did from 2001 on. Time will tell.
Will SLC play for a title again, no doubt. They are a very good team. Will they dominate as they did in years past????
Understandable that it will take the fans a few years to adjust. Those that really follow the sport and understand see it happening and are realistic on where they fit in the rankings from week to week.
I will say SLC is one of the teams in the state that no matter how they played the week prior, I would never underestimate them!

fify. no 01 title. too much ennis. otoh, i agree with the overall tenor. recent fans were spoiled by the then unheard of success provided by the perfect storm that was 02-06. all storms subside, but vigilance and a striving for excellence, which i must presume is still happening. will be something with which the boys, their parents and we fans will not only enjoy, but demand, now and in later endeavors. keep up the good fight. kill the will. these things will lead to success now, then and in the future.
Given that SLC has won the metroplex all-sports award for 8 of the last 9 years and is still an exemplary rated school district . . . your presumption is no doubt correct.

When poor teams lose it is not news. When we lose the whole state is in on it. I like that. As long as that is the case I think we will be a state title threat.
