My goals changed 3 or 4 different times growing up.
Just to name a few of them.
Being a drummer in a rock and roll band, coach in the NFL, astronaut.

I failed miserably.

always wanted to be a fireman when I was young. When I lived in Kingwood I joined the volunteer fire dept and found out the job wasn't near as cool as I always thought it was. They had me washing the fire trucks and directing traffic at emergency scenes. They had some full time firemen but the volunteers did all the crummy jobs. I wanted to ride in the truck on the way to a fire with the sirens and lights blazing in their full glory. In real life I have been in the oil business for the last 30 years. Not a bad life and I am not disappointed about not being a fireman.

Wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid.

Right now I work for the Princeton Review but my main job is a computer engineering student. I guess I could still be an astronaut... not really a "grown up" yet, but didn't exactly choose the correct degree for that.

Cartoonist (till I figured out I can't really draw although I still like to), garbage man (because they got to ride on the back of the trucks now they don't do that any more so I am glad I did not pursue that career path), lawyer (until I figured out that they were generally despised by the public), diplomat (until I realized that it is handy to be good at a foreign language and I in fact suck at all languages including English), disc jocky (sp?)(Just never seemed like a real job to me so I stayed away plus some of the folks in those communication classes in college kind of freaked me out), fighter pilot (still think this would be cool but I am a little big for the job I have found that most fighter pilots did not start off their life as offensive lineman), football player (love playing just not good enough to make a living at it and that is the sad reality), geologist (unfortunately rocks are boring but I still kind of think that they are cool deep down actually the deeper you go the hotter they get but that is another story here I go talking geology). Well that is a partial list and to tell you the truth I am still not sure what I want to be but I am enjoying being a teacher, coach, husband and dad for the time being.

Always wanted to be a long haul truck driver. I loved the big rigs and was fascinated that those puppies had an actual bed inside the cab. Thought it would be cool to drive cross country in one of those things and see the world.

Now a worthless POS ;)

I wanted to be a garbage man when I was a little boy. My parents said I would follow the truck all the way down the street. Now I live in a dumpster behind Taco Cabana in Katy. The food is great.

I'm joking about the dumpster but I did want to be a garbage man but I wound up in petro-chem engineering and design.

I dont really think I have had big ideas to be anything when I grew up. Which sucks because I still have the problem. And at 35, I'm grown.
I lied to get into the field I'm in because it was more money and I had kids at home to feed. Then because I never did know what I wanted to be when I grew up, I just stayed doing that. Then I hurt myself at work and I cant go do much of anything else. So now I do the same kind of work only I teach other people to do it.
I'm a small engine and shop tool mechanic by trade. Since I screwed my back all up, I sit and tell other people how to do it over the phone now.

I know it's not what I want to do forever, but nothing seems to hold my interest enough to go and do it. with the exception of things I cannot do now because I'm too old or because my back is bad.

I will say, that from as early as I can remember I wanted to be in the Marines. I let my first wife talk me out of that, so I must not have wanted to do it bad enough.

As a kid...bounced around quite a bit...

Radiologist (thought X-rays were cool)

Meteorologist (study severe weather/storm chase; applied to an atmospheric sciences college, but got a late acceptance- was already enrolled at a school w/o a weather program by the time they finally sent me a letter)

Geologist (started as a geology major in college, always good at the subject as a kid, wanted to specialize in seismology...fine and dandy until I got in calculus and realized there was no way I'd make it through 3 semesters of it, crystallography course was geometry on crack...good at the science but not the math)

I've always liked maps/travel, but never really considered a career in a geography related field until I was deep into my studies in college.

I've been a sports nut my entire life, so this web site is basically the translation of that life long passion. It's growing into something that was unexpected when I first started it.

I ended up going to a journalism major once I realized I was nowhere near as good at math as I needed to be for a physical science degree. Writing always came pretty naturally to me in school, and I generally did well on any projects that involved writing.

If sports/writing went out of the window as a potential career, I'd probably try and pursue a career as a travel agent.

Right now, I work with an offshore drilling group for my day job (techy work). That's actually closer to what I was originally in college for.

I also used to want to be loved by all the ladies with hopes of being a dirty old man in the long run............
by the time I was 21, I admitted my Dad was right about there being way more nookie out there than I had d**k.
I then wanted a family but needed a wife to accomplish that goal.
Married a virgin and for the first time in my life had a realtionship that wasn't great. Heck, I always thought it was the man's fault when soemthing didn't work.
So next I wanted to be president of the He-Man Woman Haters Club...........but realized after a few years that it was a dead-end job.
I'm now happily married to a caring, loving and sometimes fussy woman who works fulltime and has a prison ministry.
I'm almost at full cycle of being what I wanted all along subliminally, being a dirty old man......but it's with one woman.
You too can be what you always wanted to be!:D
It's not that hard.........at least not anymore.:notworthy

My Dad was and still is the man I most admire. In a short description my Dad was/is a welder. To elaborate, He worked as a welder for 40 years and reached the #1 spot in his union in all of North America or where ever Dow has plants in this hemisphere. Add to all that work he was constantly welding up our neighbors stuff in our driveway .. you know, lawnmowers, shovel handles, tractor parts, tail pipes and what have you. He could weld up just about anything made of mild steel with a coat hanger and a little bit of oxygen and acetylene. He is definitely a jack of all trades and Master of at least three or four. In his spare time he raised 4 sons and loved a wife for 39 years until she passed away from cancer. From as far back as I can remember he would donate his time to be an auctioneer for the local churches and charities and little league baseball leagues all over Brazoria County. Just imagine a Ragin' Cajun talking fast with a cajun accent over the mike ... yea, music to my ears. He was damn good too.

Yep, I wanted to be a welder when I was a kid because I liked all the cool lookin' sparks and that fire that melted metal together. My Dad was a Diety when he wielded electricity and flame. Heck, I even tried being an auctioneer in 6th grade one time.

I grew to adulthood still admiring my Dad. Today, I manage a welding shop in Baytown, Texas that services the refineries and chemical companies along the Houston Ship Channel. I can even melt a little bit of metal myself. ;-)

Love ya' Dad !!! :notworthy
Thank you for helping me find out what I wanted to be when I grew up.

CAT WOMEN! from the t.v. show in the 60's. i got a note sent home to my parents when i was in 1st grade because i told this to my class during a talk on what we wanted to be when we grew up. the teacher wanted me change my answer and i refused.
then when i was older i wanted to be a news reporter.

i work for mayflower now and i'm going to be there for a long time. i've worked in a lot of plants/factories in the past.
