i just returned from a very sad gathering of former dragons and dragon fans. one of our own was laid to rest today. a 23 year old marine with a tour of duty in iraq under his belt, died last week after a battle with cancer. he was a very inspirational and fiery member of dodge's first slc team. his ever present smile belied the fire in his belly. he never understood that he wasn't tall enough or heavy enough to play lber for the dragons. i was fortunate enough to adopt him in my mind into my family. my kids treated him as a brother and he them. he took a scared sophomore suiting up for the varsity for the first time, and made him part of the group. andrew still appreciates the action.

our country, state, and city are better for him having graced us with his presence. this definitely goes down as a loss for the dragons, but a win for God. may our prayers go out to the friends and family of cpl brandon aguiar, usmc

this is the kind of stuff that just makes me forget all about football and arguing with people from other high schools. thanks for letting us know and keeping us in the right state of mind and god bless to all those who around him and his family.

no, he was simply being honored for his service to dragon nation, and his country.

Thanks for the note DD - our prayers are with the family. We will also lay to rest a young man in Nac. tomorrow - about the same age - the middle school band director. Cancer is one wicked disease.

if anyone doesn't believe the marines are a band of brothers, realize that 8 of his old squadron, who only in the last week or two had returned from iraq, got in 2 cars tuesday and drove straight thru to arrive here fro pendleton in time for brandon's wake. brandon's dad, also an ex-marine was blown away by the gesture. i don't care what anyone says, the marines are the best of the best. makes me cry just thinking about it.

My daughter graduated with Brandon. This reminds us all of our mortality and our commonality. Our thoughts are with Brandon's family, and our friends in Lufkin, as well.

The loss of a young man with that type of integrity and heart is a loss to not only the Dragon Nation but the whole nation. Our prayers go out to his family. For our fallen brother one last HUAHH!

They very much are a Band of Brothers. The Army and Marines preach the team concept from the time you join and that goes until you die. I had Army people travel back to home station from Afghanistan when unit members died.
