View Full Version : Oklahoma has a good defense

After shutting out a very good offensive team in Tulsa, I feel much better about the Sooners. That defense has a chance to be very very good this year.
#1 scoring defense, #1 rushing defense, #43 passing defense, #9 total defense. Playing two of three against Idaho State and Tulsa boosted those numbers significantly but we'll get a really good idea how good they are when they line up against Miami this week and then get rolling into conference play.

i agree. miami seems to be primed to take the ACC, if they don't play young.

tusla =/= idaho state.
the two are not even comparable. tulsa is actually a pretty good team (have been for the past couple of years), and have had a strong offense during that stretch. it was an excellent warm up for the secondary.

they did lose the OC, though. i wonder how much of an impact that'll make in the end (my guess, 1 or 2 games).

Well, that's debatable and there is no objective way to determine how good they actually are until more of the season plays out. They lose their OC and weren't putting up their usual numbers against against Tulane or New Mexico earlier this season either.

but. i still have issue with you putting them together with idaho state as if both teams were the absolute suck. while tulsa is no powerhouse, they're certainly no ULM or Wyoming or idaho state....or texas tech for that matter.
ou's non-conference schedule is one of the toughest in the nation, and as you said before...we'll get another test against miami in a couple weeks.

I didn't say they both sucked. Idaho State certainly does and I'm not exactly sure how good Tulsa is but it doesn't really matter because Miami will be a legit measuring stick anyways.

OU may not have the toughest OOC schedule, but it is certainly much tougher than the cupcakes on the Texas OOC schedule.

You might have a point, but don't so far(teams played).
BYU was ranked that high beacuse they beat ou. It could be as easily said that both ou/BYU were vastly over rated given the shellacking at home FSU gave the Cougars, after struggling with Jacksonville State.
That being said, after the loss of Bradford, they have done exactly what you would hope. Comlpetely dominated both teams they have played.
Playing at Miami is certainly going to be tough and Harris has perhaps looked the best of any QB in the country. I think the ou DB's will play a little better than FSU/Ga Tech. Most of the big plays were to very open spaces. You still have to get open and get the ball to them, but something tells me they won't have the same type of space. Hope I'm wrong though.

Very, very impressive win. Landry Jones will be very good next year.
Would not surprise me to see OU win in Miami. Yes, OU has a very difficult pre-conf. schedule - BYU, Tulsa and Miami - only one game at home of those - that's tough by Florida and UT 2009 standards.
