I was looking on rivals and I noticed something interesting. Of the 19 categories, there are only 4 without Texas players in the top 10.

2nd largest population. Warm weather year round.

Oh, and football is "important" here to put it mildly.

To say we're the best is debatable. I think Louisiana is usually # 1 in D-1A recruits per capita. Actually I think there are several states ahead of TX there.

Texas is good at everything except maybe Ice hockey..

Second.. I've always and still state that Texas is very good at football because of several reasons.

1. Most of the kids grow up in Texas wanting to play football.
2. The culture of Texas promotes football.

What really make's Texas high school football so good isnt the top blue-chips (which there are 100's each year in Texas) but its those second level prospects and just "good ole hard headed high school players" that will "NEVER" see one down of college football that make many high schools in Texas "Top notch".

Those kids grow up together and in many parts have grown up in the same (ISD).

I've lived and traveled around the Nation and seen alot of high school football across the nation. I can easily "State and claim" that no state is really even close to the "OVERALL CALIBER & Level" of High school football then Texas.

Some States may have One or Two "TEAMs" that can play with anyone in Texas. Some States (Cali and Florida) may have just as many top line blue-chips as Texas.

But, No State has the amount of "DEPTH" with its High school football talent and teams like Texas.

Put Texas #10 team up against just about any other States #10 team and the Texas team destroys them pretty easily.

Ironically, I saw on the news that Texas had the most professional hockey teams of any state in the nation.

That's because of all the frozen ponds around Dalhart.

We are always #1 for recruits, but we aren't close to #1 for per capita. We easily have the most schools, so I attribute some of our lacking in that area to having a lot more small schools play football than in other states.

That is true. We have a team in Wichita Falls, too. There are Texas hockey teams in all corners of the state.

Ironically...over the past ten years, New Jersey produced more D-1 players per capita vis-a-vis any other state.

I think Texas is like 8th in the nation per-capita for D-1A recruits.

But, what I think makes Texas #1 for High school football is just the sheer overall numbers of high school football players. We have a lot of "just good ole boy" football players in Texas that have good size, speed and skill but they wont ever see a down of college football. But, there dang good players that are above "average" on the national scale.

Texas has 1,000's of those kids all over the place where in other States dont have those numbers.

Plus, I also think Texas has (for overall numbers) the best High school coaching in America. I live in Miami, Fl (myth hotbed for great high school football) and the overall coaching here for high school is pathetic. There is just about 4 to maybe 6 high school in the Dade Co. & Broward Co. area that I would say could compete and give the Texas (#10 thre #35) a good game.

The Texas top #8 or so teams would "destroy" them. No doubt at all !!!

PS. About 5 years ago Sports Illust. did a special on High school football. Basically they said no State is even on Texas par with High school football. They also said that 1 out of every 5 high school football players in America resides in Texas. That's a huge %%%. 1 out of 5.
