The reason why plano never has anyone going to the next level is there so called dfw coach of the year Gerald Brence doesnt help his players. First of all he turns away any coach that comes through there to talk to the kids, if they show up to practice he will say this isnt a good time. As a coach i think its your duty to sell your players. He will tell the coaches not to contact the players until the end of their senior year, which i think is to late and colleges already have an idea of who they want. Coach Brence will only help you unless it is Army or Navy or some ranky d3 school. For example the our big DE Ryan Burkhead had interests from Georgia Tech and Brence told them that you dont want him he is to small to play for yall. Now what kind of a god fearing "coach of the year" man would do that. And i have talked with some of these players and they have all said the same comment, when they do talk to recruiters they do say well coach brence tells me not to come around. When have you ever heard of Plano having standout recruits. Just a few of the names..

Ryan Burkhead
Victor Jones
Alex Lott
Kinzey Joiner
Greg Rideaux
Justin Jordan
Matt Nicholson
Maxim Dinka
Keenen Duke

All these kids got all district and all county honors and none of them have any offers or siging on feb 1, I have heard from players themselves complaining of the lack of help from mr. "coach of the year." He will tell recruiters not to recruit a certain player because hes to small or he wont pass a class "why would you want him." Who in there right mind has a right to do that, these are kids futures, i just want yalls thoughts and i want to spread the word about how coach Brence doesnt need to be known as "coach" anymore..

Brence has been this way since he came to Plano. I have lost alot of respect for Kimbrough now since he has went political and lets him stay. Brence needs to go back to Oklahoma.

Perhaps he has off the field issues that may scare teams away.

Ya... that may be so. I realize that grades and conduct and ect play a major role in many kids and how recruitable they are. I'm still surprised that he doesnt have any offers if that is the case.

i've heard complaints about coach brence for other perceived deficiencies, but this is new. it is certainly not a good thing, if true, when a head coach won't put it on the line for mhis players, like he expects them to for him. i doubt any coach with a state ring will get the axe for this fault, however.

this angers me greatly.
Do you have any idea if this is the reason that Arkansas has dropped off of Greg R.? I thought they were showing some mutual interest and I saw Greg play at the Wylie SQT last Summer and by goodness if he wasn't the best reciever there. Hes a talent and whatever school he winds up with is going to have a good one.

Brence is only following what Kimbrough established from John Clark. Recruiters can talk to the players in person after the season. Now I admit the recruiting process has changed since I was playing for Kimbrough (early signing period etc) However, after the season then Brence should do his best to promote his players.

I was a 1 year varsity player a starter my Senior year. Solid player all district but no D1 Recruit. However I got some D2 and D3 interest and when I went to Kimbrough to send game film to these smaller schools and give feedback he gladly did. In fact after I played a year at a D2 school in Missouri and wanted to walk-on at a bigger program at UNT. I went to him for help. He called up to UNT and talked with Corky Nelson and got me the opportunity to walk on which turned out to be a great experience.

Brence should do the same. It's a shame that if what is being said is true. This years team had some special players and if they really wanted to play at the next level Brence and is staff should do everything in their power to make it happen.

After the season???? Goodluck.. There are Juniors giving VC now a days. If you wait until after the season to start the recruiting process, in most cases all you will have left is D2 and D3..

Its all on brence, the coaching staff for some odd reason has to keep it quiet when they help players out, for some reason brence gets in their faces, the assistant coaches should have all the credit.. Brence will tell a recruiter off and say you dont want him.. there will be 1 signee feb 1 ryan burkhead (Harvard), hes been trying to beg alot of the players to sign feb 1 but they have no offeres because of him and he wants everyone to sign so it makes him look better, rumor has it the players dont want to help him one bit
