Tech will run away with this by the 2nd half. I saw the OSU/Houston game, and Houston is really good - we are better, though.
No poll?
My thoughts don't change after tonight... I knew Tech was not some horrid rebuilding team, they can compete. Should still be a good game.
I have no predictions for the score, only that this will be a game in the neighborhood of 5 hours, and Houston will win.

Houston has done a great job with their program. I thought when Briles left they would go back to mediocrity but they have really shined. I think Tech will win but it will be entertaining, to say the least.

1. Tech will win and this is easy. Both teams have great offenses, but Tech has a lot better defense.
2. This game is SUPER tough for me and I started thinking about it as soon as the OSU game was over. It's like kissing your sister and out of 3 things that could happen in Austin, 1 of the 2 happened that would make me feel this way. If Texas had blown out Tech, I would've openly root for Houston in this game because I hate to see them lose and blow their shot at a BCS bowl. As it is, a Tech win in Austin would've meant they needed to win these other 3 tough road games and take care of business at home. Now we have a situation where Tech played well losing a road game and still controls their own destiny for a BCS bowl. I hate to see either team lose and will be happy for the winner either way.

all we got for a week was how improved okie lite's defense was.....well, the rest is history. ;)
but i actually do agree with you...texas is no georgia, and tech had several backups in all night due to injuries. i still expect this to be a high scoring game, but i think the tech defense makes some key stops late in the game.
Last night, Tech definitely showed that they're not rebuilding- they're reloading. Still, I can't help but be impressed by Houston thus far. Their defense showed ability against OSU, and I think they'll be able to do so again with Tech, though not to the same extent, and the offense speaks for itself. Maybe a high scoring game, but I see Houston coming out of this one with a W.

The key to me with the Houston D is they gave up more yards in Game 1 than Tech did to their scrubs and OSU got more yards on UH than Tech gave up to Texas.
Line right now is -1 Houston, but it's still bouncing around.

1. You get rust.
2. If you come off of a big win, you sometimes coast too much in the next game.
3. Bye weeks are good if you need rest for injuries.

Point taken... but I still would rather have the Cougars going into this game rested up, instead of beat up.
I think Coach Sumlin will make sure they don't do to much coasting. He said he was going to give the players until Tuesday after the OSU game to enjoy the win, but after that it's all focused on the next one (Tech). While it's impossible to know what's really in the players heads, the interviews I've read lead me to believe they're very focus on one thing... beating Tech!

Dana Holgorson was at Tech before he was at CoogHS. Their offense is schematically the same as ours, just more motion involved.
It will be about execution on offense and who can play the best defense, which I know Tech can.

Obviously Okie Lite made plays to win, because they have ultimate playmakers. You may be still looking to the loss of Crab and Harrell as our downfall once again. Lyle and Detron can't wait to introduce themselves to you.
Plus, our offense isn't usually about make big time plays. Thats not what Leach aims for. Don't get me wrong, if it happens we will more than gladly take it, but Leach loves to systematically () move the ball down the field no matter how many play makers we have. Execution, score, execution, score.
Houston's run D is ranked 97th so far this season, so we may be able to get a solid run game going which would make the offense even more potent.
There is more to it than just playmaking.

no disrespect to Coach Holgorson, but it takes more than coordinating to run a program. Coach Sumlin is a difference maker and those players have bought in. and we are not talking about second tier talent. Houston has tremendous athletes on both sides of the ball.
disclaimer- I am not a UH grad nor a fan. After watching the OSU game, it was very clear that they are to be reckoned with. With a bye and the oppty to down another B12 team, they will be healthy and hungry. While, you would even agree, tt will have a little hangover from Austin.

Sorry, but what has looked more attractive to recruits recently? Texas Tech or Houston? Don't get me wrong, Houston has athletes, but Tech will have the same pound for pound and some even better.
Tech won't be on a hangover. They have looked so pissed in practice and more intense than I have ever seen them. I have faith in the team that they will do great and put Houston back in their place. Didn't we come to the conclusion that Okie Lite is way overrated?

Hasn't Georgia struggled this year? Its hard replacing two 1st rounders, even Farmer could attest.
I seriously doubt this game is as one-sided as a lot of you think. My only fear is that UH comes out flat because of the bye week, but if they're firing on all cylinders, there's no way I see Tech winning this game (definitely not by double digits at least).

Tech is going to win the game by double digits. They're just better. I know some will say "You're just a Tech fan." No, I'm not JUST a Tech fan. I've been an Air Force fan for over 20 years and a Cougar fan for over 30 years. My uncle played at UH and they were my favorite team for many years.

Sumlin is a VERY good coach that has a high intensity level when running his program. He is also an offensive mastermind as well....
His Success is attributed to him identifying what will work with the situation he has. They have assembled a team, staff and a scheme that is going to be very productive as long as he is there.

In your estimation Leach is better then Mack, Stoops, Myer, Kiffen, Briles (and offensively this guy blows everyone off the list), Les Miles, Nick Saban, Pete Carrol....need i continue?
Sumlin is a better Head Coach......offensive mind, maybe not....But he hired a hell of a OC.

The call on 4th and goal from the one was one of the dumbest calls. Nobody looks for a qb sneak there. Tech may not make a bowl game this year if they continue to underachieve. This is still probably the biggest win on their home field since the SWC broke up. Let them have their moment, they didn't get to rush at Boone Pickens. If I were a UH grad, I'd be whooping it up. It's a compliment to Tech that they rate that kind of celebration.

Everyone (probably you included) thought UH would lose, and in what was a hard fought and emotional game. Class is at the bottom of the list in Houston tonight.
Best of luck to Texas Tech in their up-coming games, they played hard, though I think they really could have one if not for 1-2 key bad play calls.

Lack of Execution was the biggest factor on offense. If we we're playing on all cylinders we would have scored at least four more touchdowns. UH's D was less than desirable. Potts needs to learn how to manage a game and make better decisions. D was worn down as the game progressed, credit that to UH's offense. They moved the ball and although they didn't play perfect, they played well enough.
Bounce back Raider and kick *** the rest of the year. Lets be a different team from here on out.

Why didn't Leach see it fit to run the ball more? That D-line was being dominated. I think that Tech's D played very well, better than previously estimated, but the offense left much to be desired. They just didn't click, and UH took advantage. Still, a good game by Tech, no reason to cry about it. A win is a win and a loss is a loss, and be ready by next week.

IMO What he needs to do is get Batch and Whats-his-name into a rhythm, build some confidence, otherwise you can look at games with 300+ passing yards and maybe 50-100 rushing.

If Tech wins out, and if UT falls to OU and one other team in a huge upset then my eight ball says "highly likely." If TTU simply wins out and UT goes to the MNC, then we have an interesting situation. Tech might sneak in as the 2nd Big XII choice, as OU would have two losses and Tech would own the head to head. So it's possible.
But Tech has to win out, regardless, and I don't know if that happens. There's still several games on the schedule they CAN lose. Not to say they will.

Nope...you can still win the Big XII South outright, then the Big XII so long as you win out and UT goes down to OU and one other team. You basically need your second favorite team to be whoever is playing UT from here on out. Hope that OSU or A&M trip them up. Not likely, but stranger things have happened.
UH ran 94 plays. You won't win many times when your opponent runs 94 plays.
A very weird game on the whole. It felt like Tech was in control all game but UH dominated statistically in almost every way but penalties. Great win for the coogs.
Interesting that they are 4-0 against ranked teams under Sumlin. That means they lost 5 games last year to unranked opponents. Including following up a 70-30 effort against ranked Tulsa with a bad loss to Rice. Hopefully they can win the ones they are supposed to the rest of the way.

SAVE YOUR TIMEOUTS TECH!!!!
Used two of them on Defense and Houston still scored on each drive!
Then wasted one in the red zone and got NO points!
NONE!
Damn it! Second, third and fourth down were running plays. Why not use one of them for a fake handoff and pass?
Eric Stephens....please hold onto the ball. I know he's just a freshman and he'll make some mistakes, but damn it, that killed a great drive by Tech. I think Houston got three points off of that turnover. Stephens, I think will be a good player, but he can't be holding it with one arm with all those defenders around him.
I won't mention the last 45 seconds of the game, because the little screen got me bitter about the whole game.
Of course, it would have been okay if Tech had a timeout.
:Censor:
This game just got me a little peeved. Tech couldn't put Houston away.
Houston earned this victory. They did. They got a chance to make the game-winning Touchdown and they did so. Did they drive down the field for what...85 yards!
They stopped Tech when they needed to. Not just the goal line stand, but making Tech punt to stifle the offensive momentum of the Red Raiders.
Houston made Tech pay for not capitalizing in the red-zone.
Just...a frustrating end for me. This would have been a great win for Tech and it didn't happen.

Great for UH. The city needed that.
Yeah, that's without a doubt.
I'm cool with them rushing the field. I know they felt like how we felt with Texas... granted their ranked and we're not, so that was interesting, but this was huge for them. So it's cool, kind of like a compliment to us plus they're having their moment and whatnot. (This also means other fans can stop talking about how "unclassy" we were when we rushed the field last season... I'm specifically pointing out the many UT friends I have who can't and won't get over it. It's football, we're in college. Big effing deal. If it's a big win, let them have their moment... it doesn't happen all the time. Life is about experiences so obviously rushing the field after a huge victory is one.) I wish we had won but you win some, you lose some - at least it wasn't another conference game.
Anyway, I wasn't very impressed by Tech especially the offensive line. We have to get some sort of rhythm going or something (running game wasn't too shabby) but our two losses have definitely been hard fought ones. Better luck next time I suppose.

Tech will have to run the table + get help in order to make a BCS game. The ball is no longer in Tech's court. Running the table does not guarantee Tech anything. Texas would have to lose two conference games. That's a pretty humongous "if" anyways with games left against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Tech will have to win the Big XII to make a BCS game, they will not get an at-large bid.

My lasting memory from the Miami game was two-fold:
1. All the comparisons in the Dallas papers about how Houston might be about to do what Miami did in the 80's just crumbled on national TV. There was no national power from a major metro area. Houston didn't break out onto the scene again like the mid-60's to 80's run that I got to catch the end of and also blew the next game and stayed down until the 96 season, but that was also short-lived. Houston didn't rebound truly until Briles showed up.
2. As far as the game went, Miami had too much speed and Houston's receivers couldn't get YAC's like they usually did.

Man, I just want a finisher.
I'll never forget how I thought the 1990 Cougars would win a national title, but those hopes ended on a Saturday night in Austin. That was the same day that the Washington Huskies lost their national champion hopes with a loss at UCLA. I was fortunate enough to be in Anchorage for the 1991 championship run for the Huskies and flew from Seattle to Anchorage as the Husky fans were flying to Lincoln for the big game that was the springboard for the title. I had been a Husky fan since 1980 and it was great being there and seeing/hearing all the games and the radio shows for those 3 years. The Huskies had let me down before as they were #1 most of the year in 1984 until losing at USC.
Obviously, it hurt a lot when Tech lost at OU last year and that brings us to 2009. I just want the Coogs to run the table and I've had enough bad luck with this team. I saw the Notre Dame Cotton Bowl in 1979 when Montana brought 'em back in -40 wind chill weather. Thankfully, Houston came back on Nebraska in 1980 in the Cotton Bowl. I saw the 3 Final Fours that Guy Lewis lost in 1982-1984. I just need the Coogs to finish in 2009 unlike anything I've ever seen because I don't give the same credit to Track and Golf titles!:D
So, I'm listening to local sports radio here and Houston and they brought up a good point. Even if UH ran the table....they would be lucky to make a BCS game....National title is not an option. So, to make their case for a BCS game....they will need "Style" points. Does Coach Sumlin run up the score every time he's in position to?

I don't think it will change anything in the voters' eyes... we're Houston, we're supposed to score a lot of points, and doing it against C-USA competition won't sway anybody. Boise gets credit for doing it against WAC competition because they've proven themselves against better teams, Houston won't get the benefit of the doubt.
UH is gonna need TCU and Boise to drop one... or play real bad against a sorry team, to jump them.

Yeah....TCU SHOULD run the table also.

True, although TCU has more opportunities to slip up (@BYU, Utah, @Air Force) than Boise. Outside Tulsa, nothing short of Kellen Moore going down will stop the Broncos it would seem... either way the ball is not in Houston's court.

I don't think TCU should run the table. They have a good chance to lose at Air Force and should lose at BYU and that says nothing about maybe losing to Utah. In the case of Boise, their best chances to lose are at Tulsa and Hawaii.
As far as worrying about the Coogs moving up, it's going to happen and happen fast if they keep winning. If everybody above the Coogs loses their tough games in the next 3 weeks, UH could be up to #1 in the AP and #2 in the Coaches Poll after October 17th. I know not everybody will lose, but:
Florida might lose at LSU
Somebody has to lose Texas/Oklahoma
Alabama might lose at Ole Miss
LSU might lose at Georgia
Boise sure enough can lose at Tulsa or Hawaii
Virginia Tech plays at Georgia Tech
USC plays at Cal
OU also plays at Miami, FL
I don't think it will happen, but Indiana is better and might even have a chance hosting Ohio State
Cincinnati plays at South Florida
TCU plays at Air Force next week
Oklahoma State plays at Texas A&M and Missouri
Georgia plays at Tennessee
Those are all games in the next 3 weeks and Houston will keep moving up if they take care of business. It will also help the Coogs if they beat Mississippi State on the road.
Sumlin is on Jim Rome...says he did some research last season and found that their were 101 D1-guys within 60 miles of the UH campus.

85 man roster for UH and Rice should take care of that pretty easy, right? 170 D1 within a lot less than 60 miles.

High school prospects.

I still say no:
Houston
Rice
TCU
SMU
in Big 12 to horde Houston and DFW recruits.
On another note, one of the three missing helmets returned.

If they're not gonna return the other two... I hope they put em in a trophy case or on the mantle at the house, and they don't pop up on Ebay.
