I'll start this thread by saying I have seen Desoto play the last 2 weeks and my hats go off to Richardson Berkner as they held Desoto to 13 points (1 offensive and 1 kickoff ret. for TD). Duncanville gave up 64 and Cedar Hill 41 to an explosive Eagle offense. I also want to give props to several others: Mesquite Horn, North Mesquite, and Coppell
Are there any other defensive units worthy of early season praise?

Mckinney wins hands down.
In three games they have only allowed 204 points. What more needs to be said about their defense. :p:ninja::p

Ha ha...Funny stuff.:)
A team that is doing the complete opposite is Aubrey, who with a decent coach (;)) and a solid run game have managed 3 wins...42-0, 41-0 and 43-0.
They are giving up less than 100 yds a game and 0 points allowed, while gaining over 300 yds a game and averaging 42 per game.

According to the HSGameTime, Coppell has the third ranked 5A defense in the DFW. Avg 247.2 yards a game. The top school, Garland Lakeview Centennial is Avging 244.2 yards a game. (that stat has not been updated since friday night will change after GLC's loss this weekend) If you look at ppg Garland Lake View Contennial is allowing 22.5 ppg, and Coppell is allowing 9.5 ppg.
hrm...
My nod goes to my alum for the best defense in the Metroplex right now. (I thought I would never be able to say that...no really who would have thought?)

The Dallas Morning News only ranks by yardage allowed and to be honest I value ppg allowed more than yardage allowed. Some coaches empty the benches when up by a large score and the yardage numbers can be inflated. But just as well, anytime an offense gives us a TD by fumble or interception those points go against the defensive unit.

Skyline and Berkner have to rank pretty highly. I haven't looked at all the stats, but they usually do well defensively.
